The Stasis build in Valor Mortis runs on one simple loop. You pour Stasis onto an enemy until the segments beneath their health bar fill up, the enemy freezes, and then you hit them to shatter the effect for a huge burst of damage. The reason it holds together so well is resource return: every time you fill a Stasis segment, the enemy drops a Nephtoglobin Remnant, and picking it up gives you back roughly enough Nephtoglobin to set up the next one.
Quick answer: Pair Stasis Transmutation with the Rapier. Fill every Stasis segment to freeze the target, then land a heavy Rapier attack to shatter it. Take Termination, Implosion, Hex, and Drain as your Stasis upgrades.

How the Stasis freeze-and-shatter loop works
Using Stasis Transmutation on an enemy fills the Stasis segments sitting under their health bar. Each segment that fills slows the enemy more, and once all of them are full the enemy freezes completely. Attack a frozen enemy and the Stasis breaks, dealing heavy damage on the shatter. Most enemies carry two or three segments, so the freeze comes quickly.
Against tougher targets that stack many segments, you do not have to wait for a full freeze. A heavy Rapier attack can break the segments early and still cash out the shatter damage, which is what keeps the build viable in boss fights.
Stasis Transmutation itself caps at level 5. The damage factor climbs from 1 at level 1 to 1.5 at level 5, and each level needs Transmutation Material to upgrade.
| Level | Damage factor | Upgrade cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | — |
| 2 | 1.2 | Crude Transmutation Material x2 |
| 3 | 1.3 | Pure Transmutation Material x2 |
| 4 | 1.4 | Distilled Transmutation Material x2 |
| 5 | 1.5 | Quintessential Transmutation Material x1 |

Two of the Stasis upgrade slots force a choice, so picking the right side matters. These four picks turn the freeze-and-shatter loop into something you can lean on every fight.
| Weapon level | Pick | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Heavy attacks break Stasis even when only a little has built up. | |
| 3 | Boosts damage when you trigger a Stasis segment. | |
| 4 | Stasis built on enemies no longer decays over time | |
| 5 | Attacking frozen enemies restores health |
Termination is what lets the Rapier’s heavy attack break segments early, so it is the pick that makes the whole plan work. Implosion beats Eruption here because raw shatter damage is the point of the build. Hex spares you from racing a decay timer, and Drain stacks another layer of healing on top of the Nephtoglobin Remnants.
Rapier upgrades for the shatter and parry setup
The Rapier fits Stasis combat for one practical reason: its heavy attack covers ground, so you can close the gap and break segments on demand. Take Lunge to improve your dodge after a heavy attack, which keeps you safe while you set up the next freeze.

For the next two Rapier upgrades, go with Astute Quarta and Vigorous Terza. These build the parry side of the loop, since every clean parry gives back Nephtoglobin and health. Astute Quarta also restores Stamina on a successful parry, so you are rarely caught short on resources between freezes.
Stat priority for a Stasis build
Level stats in the order below. The aim is to work down toward the final row and dump your remaining points into Transmutation Sufferance and Transmutation Damage, which is where your Stasis damage really scales. Nephtoglobin-focused stats come early because the entire loop runs on it.

Ambers for Stasis buildup and survivability
Slot five Ambers that either speed up Stasis buildup or keep you alive while you run the loop.
- Lunatic’s Grasp — charges Stasis segments more quickly. In return, Ignite, Stasis, and other transmutation effects are less resisted.
- Payback — at low health, it unleashes a powerful Stasis detonation. The blast adds Stasis segments, and pairing it with Lunatic’s Grasp increases buildup further.
- Bountiful Harvest — makes the Nephtoglobin Remnants enemies drop also heal you, on top of refilling Nephtoglobin.
- Bottomless Well — slowly regenerates Nephtoglobin on its own, useful since the build leans on it constantly.
- Duelist’s Focus — widens your parry window, which helps the Rapier parries that return Nephtoglobin and health.

Use the Stasis Whetstone to build segments with melee
A Stasis Whetstone coats your weapon in Stasis, causing hits to inflict it for several upcoming attacks. This lets you build segments with the Rapier itself instead of depending only on Transmutation casts. It costs 300, you can carry up to three, and James’s Iron Bench begins selling it in chapter 9 (In Ruins). Howler and Volunteers enemies also drop it, and it can be found in Cursed Hollow, the University, the Fortress, the Caverns, the Outskirts, and the City of Orphans.

Stasis Whetstones get easier to pick up later in the game, which is when this build becomes simplest to keep running fight after fight.
How to confirm the build is working
You will know the loop is set up correctly when an enemy’s Stasis segments visibly fill and the target slows, then freezes solid once every segment is full. Your next hit breaks the freeze and delivers the big shatter damage. Each segment you fill drops a Nephtoglobin Remnant on the ground, and grabbing it tops your Nephtoglobin back up so you can immediately start the next freeze. If Termination is active, your heavy Rapier attack will shatter segments even when they are only partway built, which is the sign the build is doing what it should against enemies with deep segment bars.
