Dark Arisen hands every combat vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 a new endgame skill, taught by the Maister spirit that guards that vocation’s Obelisk of Benediction. There are nine in total, covering Warrior, Sorcerer, Thief, Fighter, Mystic Spearhand, Archer, Mage, Trickster, and Magick Archer. None of them can be bought outright. Each is a reward for finishing the expansion’s story and then beating a former Arisen’s shade in combat.
Quick answer: Finish the Dark Arisen main quest to open the Eternal Night, then defeat the Arisen shade at each vocation’s Obelisk of Benediction to learn that vocation’s Maister skill at a Vocation Guild.
How the 9 Maister skills unlock
These nine abilities are tied to the post-story phase. Completing the main campaign up to the point where the portal tears open the sky begins the Eternal Night, and that is the gate for every Maister teaching. Until then, the shades are not present to fight.
Norgan has a separate Obelisk of Benediction for each vocation. When Eternal Night begins, a former Arisen’s shade appears at its matching Obelisk, sometimes accompanied by a pawn. Talk to the spirit to start the “Spirit of the Obelisk” trial. Defeating the main shade ends the battle at once, even if its pawn survives, and awards the matching teaching.

You know the reward landed when the game confirms it in text, for example “Learned the Mage-Master’s teaching, Benediction.” The skill is then available to learn and equip at any Vocation Guild, and becomes usable by both the Arisen and the main pawn.

The ranking below weighs raw combat value, reliability, and how much work each skill saves in the Eternal Night’s tougher fights. The core effect of each one sits in the table; the reasoning follows underneath.

| Rank | Vocation | Skill | Core effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Warrior | Blood Pact | Awaken buff: stamina refill, heavy stagger and damage resist |
| 2 | Sorcerer | Chilling Embrace | Freezing aura with an ice-explosion finisher |
| 3 | Thief | Combustive Caper | Explosive trail that detonates on stopping |
| 4 | Fighter | Shield Precision | Automatic True Deflect while active |
| 5 | Mystic Spearhand | Hindringe Mirke | Gravity field that slows foes and boosts dives |
| 6 | Archer | Cloudburst Shot | Area barrage of arrows from overhead |
| 7 | Mage | Benediction | Party-wide auto-revive for a health cost |
| 8 | Trickster | Dream Giant’s Pommel | Illusory fist slams that stagger giants |
| 9 | Magick Archer | Harmonic Pentad | Holy enchant arrows for pawn weapons |
Top-tier skills (1–3)
The strongest skill in the set is Blood Pact. It drains stamina while building an unseen gauge, whose progress is marked by red flashes on the character. Trigger Awaken to refill stamina completely, gain extreme resistance to stagger and damage, and reduce charge times to almost nothing. You can chain Chain of Blows without managing its timing. The trade-off is a gauge that keeps rising and health that steadily drains, making this a skill for sustained aggression rather than a permanent toggle.

Chilling Embrace wraps the Sorcerer in a continuous freezing aura. It gives high knockdown resistance while active, guarantees a freeze on foes vulnerable to it, and applies a heavy chill and slow to enemies that resist freezing outright. Dispelling it detonates a high-damage ice burst. The catch is that you cannot move while incanting, and it is not sped up by Quickspell.

With Combustive Caper, the Thief sprints forward, leaving a burning trail of explosives. As soon as you stop, the charges detonate from the end of the route backward; the longer each one has been planted, the more damage its blast deals. Sprint through a crowd to lay a long trail, then stop to set it all off at once.

Mid-tier skills (4–6)
Shield Precision automates the Fighter’s defense. With it enabled, True Deflect triggers whenever a blockable attack comes in, and the shield knocks smaller foes backward on impact. Stamina drains for as long as the skill is active, with another cost each time you defend, so save it for dangerous stretches instead of leaving it on for an entire fight.

Hindringe Mirke forms a ground-level gravity field that drags enemies downward and greatly slows their movement, while boosting the Mystic Spearhand’s dive-attack damage. The field reaches farther if you cast from above or hold the button.
Cloudburst Shot fires a volley upward that rains arrows across a wide zone, with shots nearer the center of the reticle more likely to land. Keeping the bow drawn lets the Archer fire it repeatedly, skipping the startup draw between volleys. It is strong crowd clear, but it wants space and time to set up.
Lower-tier skills (7–9)
Benediction trades roughly 20 to 25 percent of the Mage’s maximum health for a blessing that automatically revives every party pawn once when they go down, lasting about five minutes. The loss gauge builds while casting. Because the buff persists after you switch classes, you can cast it as a Mage, rest or eat at an inn to clear the loss gauge, then swap back to another vocation with the revive still active on your pawns.

Dream Giant’s Pommel conjures up to three colossal illusory fists that slam down. They deal no direct damage, but they guarantee flinches and can stagger-lock even giant bosses, and charging the attack longer summons more illusions. It is control rather than offense.
Harmonic Pentad launches up to five magickal arrows that enchant allies’ weapons with holy power. When several arrows hit one pawn, they create a shockwave; land all five on a single target and the Arisen’s next basic shot gains extra homing holy projectiles. Its value depends heavily on your pawns’ builds.
Advanced forms of each Maister skill
Several of these skills are the basic form of a two-step upgrade and roll into a stronger advanced version. If you plan to invest in a vocation past the initial unlock, these are the upgraded skills to look for.
| Vocation | Maister skill (basic) | Advanced form |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Blood Pact | Blood Bond |
| Sorcerer | Chilling Embrace | Numbing Embrace |
| Thief | Combustive Caper | Explosive Escapade |
| Fighter | Shield Precision | True Precision |
| Mystic Spearhand | Hindringe Mirke | Hindringe Whirlpit |
| Archer | Cloudburst Shot | Cloudburst Volley |
All nine abilities carry across the Arisen and main pawn once learned, which makes the higher-ranked picks useful whether you run them yourself or hand them to your pawn. Earning every one means returning to all nine Obelisks after the Eternal Night begins and clearing the shade that waits at each.
