The Moosewood Trapdoor in Fisch is tied to the Some Shady Guy questline, which leads into the upcoming Shady Bazaar area. Right now, the trapdoor itself stays sealed, the mysterious NPC standing beside it only shows up after dark, and the full quest chain becomes interactable once the Shady Bazaar goes live on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

What the Moosewood Trapdoor is
Moosewood is the central First Sea island where new players spawn, home to the Merchant, Appraiser, Innkeeper, Angler, Shipwright, and a roster of other named NPCs. The trapdoor is a recent addition tied to a new character named Some Shady Guy, who is listed among Moosewood’s NPCs but only becomes visible under specific conditions.
The trapdoor is the entry point to the Shady Bazaar, a hidden sub-location that has been teased but not yet enabled. Until the bazaar drops, the trapdoor is purely cosmetic, and the NPC standing near it will not engage in dialogue.

The NPC spawns only at night in Moosewood. If you arrive during daytime hours, the area near the trapdoor will look empty, which is the most common reason players assume the quest is broken or that they are in the wrong spot.

When the Shady Bazaar unlocks
The Shady Bazaar is scheduled to release on Saturday, May 23, 2026. After that update goes live, the Some Shady Guy NPC becomes interactable, the questline begins, and the trapdoor functions as the route into the bazaar itself.
Current state versus post-update behavior
| Element | Before May 23, 2026 | After May 23, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Some Shady Guy NPC | Visible only at night, no dialogue | Interactable, starts the questline |
| Trapdoor | Sealed, no prompt | Opens after quest progress |
| Shady Bazaar | Inaccessible | Reachable through the trapdoor |
| Quest rewards | Not obtainable | Available upon completion |
What you can do right now to prepare
Even though the questline itself is locked, you can position yourself to start the moment the update goes live. Keep a fresh spawn point at Moosewood by paying the Innkeeper, since respawning there saves travel time when the bazaar opens.
Stock up on standard Moosewood resources while you wait. Bait Crates sell for 120 C$ near the Shipwright, and the Merchant carries everything from the free Flimsy Rod up to the Lucky Rod for 4,500 C$. Having the GPS unit, purchased for 100 C$ near the Freshwater Pond, also helps if the quest later asks you to visit specific coordinates.

Why the trapdoor will not open
Players sometimes assume the trapdoor is a puzzle requiring levers, bait, or a hidden interaction. It is not. The lock is tied to the update schedule, not a mechanic you can solve early. Only two conditions matter before the patch:
- You are at Moosewood during nighttime.
- You can see the NPC standing near the trapdoor.
If both are true and the NPC still does not respond, the questline simply has not been switched on yet. There is no item, totem, or rod that bypasses this.
Once the Shady Bazaar update lands, returning to Moosewood at night and speaking to Some Shady Guy will start the quest chain that ultimately opens the trapdoor and grants access to the bazaar below.
