The Riddle of the Soul is one of three puzzles the Norgan Sphinx sets during the Seeking the Sage main quest in the Dark Arisen content for Dragon’s Dogma 2. It points you toward a single ice dragon, the Fimbl, hidden inside a stronghold where the snowstorm never lets up. Slay it, take the frozen crystal from its body, and the Sphinx accepts the kill as proof.

Quick answer: Travel to the Beorcan Stronghold, fight your way to the Frozen Battleground courtyard, kill the Fimbl, then return to the Sphinx and present the Frozen Wyrmslife Crystal it drops.

What the riddle is asking for

When you select “Hear the Riddle of the Soul” from the Sphinx, she recites a verse about an endless blizzard and a dragon frozen within it:

In an unending storm, fierce blood turns to ice; a red dragon, lost to what might have been, cries out in distress. See this for yourself, then return with proof: one bead of her lifeblood, a crystal frozen with frost.

Broken down, the “blizzard that does not wane” is a specific place, the “red dragon that might have been” is the Fimbl living inside it, and the “droplet of frosted crystal” is the item you carve from the creature once it falls. That item is the Frozen Wyrmslife Crystal.

If the wording leaves you unsure where to go, head back to the campsite and speak with Polyeidus. He reads the riddle as pointing to a beast at the heart of a raging snowstorm somewhere in Norgan, which narrows your search down to one stronghold.

Prepare before you set out

The blizzard inside the Beorcan Stronghold inflicts the Chilled status and drains your stamina, and it stays active until the Fimbl is dead. Pack accordingly before you commit to the trek.

  • At least 3 Heatstones to counter the Chilled effect during the fight.
  • Plenty of healing items such as All-Heal Elixirs.
  • A way to apply fire to your weapons, since fire damage works well against the Fimbl. A Mage pawn with Fire Boon covers this.
  • A means of silencing or staggering the dragon to interrupt its casting.

The Beorcan Stronghold sits along the western side of Norgan, northwest of the Norgandian Settlement, and it is the one spot where the whiteout never clears.

Reach the Frozen Battleground

Travel to the Beorcan Stronghold and enter the keep. The main gate into the Fimbl’s arena is locked, so you cannot take the direct route.

Look for a hidden underground passage along the edge of the stronghold. Attack or step on the loose snow to reveal an opening, then climb down the ladder. These tunnels also hold the Beorcan’s Twinned Keys, which open the keep’s interior loot rooms.
Work through the underground rooms, climbing the ladders to reach the far side of the keep. You will pass the Riftstone of the Calm, which you can repair for 90 RC on the way through. Keep heading up toward the courtyard.

Defeat the Fimbl

The Fimbl is a lesser ice dragon that leans heavily on magic. It slams the ground to send out waves of icicle shards, rises into the air to rain down lightning, and launches clusters of ice at whoever it has locked onto. Once you knock it down to its last health bars, it adds a wide icicle attack to the mix.

Keep fire applied to your weapons throughout and aim for the glowing heart on its chest. Stagger it during a casting animation to open that weak point, then climb on and strike the heart for heavy damage. Dodging its frost breath and clearing away from the ground-slam waves keeps your party alive.

Take too long in its final health bars and the Fimbl triggers a hailstorm that slowly drains your whole party’s health. Push your damage in that phase, or bring relic gear that resists ice damage to blunt the effect.

When the Fimbl dies, the blizzard across the Beorcan Stronghold clears, and you automatically receive the Frozen Wyrmslife Crystal. Its description notes it as a wyrmslife crystal that the creature held long enough to freeze, and it weighs 0.10 kg. Carving the corpse can also yield materials such as Winter Dragon Scale, Ancient Bowstaff, and Ancient Greaves.

Deliver the crystal and confirm completion

Use fast travel to reach the Shrine of Wisdom, where the Sphinx awaits. Speak with her, choose “Answer the Riddle of the Soul,” then hand over the one Frozen Wyrmslife Crystal through the delivery menu.

The Deliver menu lists the Letter to Dorin, a sealed letter from Ilda to Dorin, ready to be handed over.

You know it worked when the Sphinx accepts the crystal and one of the stone chests behind her unlocks. The completion log reads “Completed: Sage’s Wisdom – Riddle of the Soul,” and you receive 25,000 XP and 20,000 G. Opening the chest grants 3,000 RC. Rewards arrive the moment each riddle is solved, not at the end of the wider quest, so you can tackle the riddles in any order and still collect the full set.

With the Riddle of the Soul cleared, the quest flags the next task, and once all three of the Sphinx’s riddles are done you return to Polyeidus at the Norgandian Settlement to end Seeking the Sage.

The quest runs across four internal stages you can use to check your progress. First you gather clues about where to begin the search. Next you venture into the heart of the stronghold, since its description matches the “blizzard that does not wane.” Then you face the Fimbl at the center of the keep, and finally you carry the frozen wyrmslife crystal back to the Sphinx to present it as proof of the deed.
