Traffic is the Modern Warfare 4 mission where the campaign stops being a war story for about twenty minutes and becomes a getaway movie. It is set in Paris, it rewinds the clock to three days before the Korean invasion, and it is almost entirely one long escape on four wheels, with a few stops to fight on foot when the car gives out.
Quick answer: Traffic is mission 6 of Modern Warfare 4, set in Paris. You play as Captain John Price alongside Valeria, escaping a French Mafia and police ambush that ends with a decoy van switch.

The mission does not open in Paris. It starts in Korea, with Allied soldiers hauling each other onto a retreating truck under fire. Then it cuts to a hangar at Camp Humphreys, where Colonel Shaw briefs troops on North Korean missile strikes that hit the base at 0400 hours, on targeted power outages, and on infiltration tunnels. A counterattack is planned within 48 hours.
Captain Kai briefs Lieutenant West: West’s squad will trail the Special Forces unit and provide support as it crosses the border at 1800 hours. West and Park then have a tense exchange; Park is frightened and angry about being sent back into combat. Only afterward does the title card appear: “3 DAYS BEFORE THE INVASION”. The camera then descends into Paris.
In a cobblestone courtyard, black sedans and a yellow Livraposte delivery van gather around a high-priority cargo package. Price waits by the car and checks his phone. Laswell’s message reads “Graves is dead.” Price answers “I know.” Then Valeria orders everyone back into the vehicles, and the convoy rolls out onto wet streets.
The Traffic chase, phase by phase
The escape keeps switching vehicles and points of view, which keeps it from turning into one long shooting gallery. It breaks into five distinct phases.
Sedan window shootout
Price notices tails almost right away. Valeria calls them “competition,” and armed French Mafia block the intersection ahead. The “TRAFFIC / JOHN PRICE” title card appears as the ambush springs.

From the passenger seat, Price leans out the window and fires an assault rifle at mafia cars and motorcycles chasing the lead van. The route runs along Quai de l’Hôtel de Ville by the Seine, and a police helicopter joins in overhead.

Tunnel du Paix crash and firefight
The chase goes into Tunnel du Paix, where enemy SUVs ram through civilian traffic and Price keeps firing at the vehicles on both sides. The sedan eventually crashes and flips.

Price and Valeria climb out of the wreck and fight mafia gunmen on foot along the tunnel road, pillar to pillar, to reach the damaged yellow van.

Armored truck through the park and arcade
At the van, Valeria switches tactics. Luca drives off in the Livraposte van to draw the pursuers away, while she and Price take an armored vehicle and smash through a nearby wall. After dealing with the people inside, Price takes the wheel. The driving prompt reads “HOLD [W] TO DRIVE AND [S] TO BRAKE/REVERSE.”

Out on the streets, the truck plows through roadblocks and enemy cars. On Valeria’s direction it cuts through a park gate, smashing benches and kiosks, and then drives into a glass-roofed pedestrian shopping arcade and down its stairs. The run ends with the truck flipped upside down. Price and Valeria crawl out under fire.

Street fight on foot
The longest infantry stretch follows. Price and Valeria push through courtyards, alleys, and a tree-lined boulevard, clearing mafia gunmen dug in behind cars, shopfronts, and barricaded blue police vans. The objective at one point simply reads “Follow Valeria.” Near the end of the street, a FINN LMG sits in the back of a police van. It is the tool for the armored turret truck rolling down the road, and Luca pulls up in the yellow van once that fight is over.
Highway rear-door defense
Price and Valeria jump into the van’s open cargo bay, and the mission turns into a rail-style defense on a rainy expressway. Police cruisers, SUVs, and a spotlighting helicopter close in from behind. When armored trucks join the chase, Valeria hands over C4. The prompts read “[G] C4” and “PRESS [G] TO DETONATE C4,” and one of the charges flips an armored truck inside an underpass.
Weapons and equipment in Traffic
- Assault rifle, used from the sedan window and the van’s rear doors
- FINN LMG, picked up from the back of a police van
- MAR-9 marksman rifle, available during the street fight
- Concussion grenade
- C4 satchel charges, thrown onto chasing vehicles on the highway
- Armor plates, with a “NO ARMOR PLATES” warning when you run out
Interaction prompts like “[B] MOUNT” and “[F] USE ARMOR” appear during the on-foot sections. The same mission also uses checkpoints, and “CHECKPOINT REACHED” shows up between the major phases.
Traffic fail state and ending
The armored truck section has one hard rule. Running over pedestrians in the shopping arcade ends the attempt with a “TRY AGAIN: AVOID HITTING CIVILIANS” screen. The clean line runs straight down the middle of the arcade and down the stairs.
Their getaway relies on deception rather than firepower. In the underpass, Valeria calls Rodrigo, and three matching yellow Livraposte vans emerge at the other end, leaving the police helicopter unable to identify which one to pursue. Price, Valeria, and their driver then transfer to a black civilian sedan and disappear into highway traffic. During the calm drive, Valeria compares Price to a scorpion. The mission ends at sunset at a desert airfield, where Laswell phones Price and challenges his work with Valeria Garza and the cartel. That exchange signals the end of Traffic and the move into Gone Dark.
