DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 lets you deploy without a squad. Queueing alone does not mean you will face only other lone players, though. Matchmaking tries to group players by squad size but makes no promise, and the people you meet can form larger groups during the match.
Quick answer: Yes. Solo, duo, and trio entry is available, though solo players have no queue of their own.
DMZ solo queue: what matchmaking aims for
| You queue as | Matchmaking aims to match you with | Guaranteed? |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Other solos | No |
| Duo | Other duos | No |
| Trio | Other trios | No |
That means a solo can be matched into a lobby with a full trio. Treat any player you run into as someone who may have teammates close by.

Teams may change during a match: players can make a truce, betray one another, or join through assimilation. As a result, a lobby that began with solo players may later contain larger groups.
- A truce or assimilation may combine two or more solo players into one group.
- Assimilation lets a group exceed trio size, but the maximum is 4 players total.
- You can do the same and pick up teammates mid-match through a truce or assimilation.
- Betrayal is possible, so a truce does not keep you safe.
DMZ lobby size and spawns on Hajin
Infinity Ward lists DMZ lobbies as accommodating up to 20 squads, or 60 players. On Hajin at launch, every squad deploys simultaneously: the entire lobby starts together, whether you enter alone or with a full squad.
During DMZ early access, each deployment includes AI and other players, with no PvE-only option. The DMZ beginner’s guide covers squad sizes and the deployment loop in greater detail.
Tourniquet and Stealth Meter for solo players
Infinity Ward added two mechanics to “enrich solo gameplay”. Every operator deploys with the Tourniquet, which lets you get back up without a squadmate to revive you, and a Medkit makes it available again. The second addition is the Stealth Meter, which Infinity Ward names alongside the Tourniquet as a tool for players who deploy alone.
