Stonefeather is an open-world flying adventure. You play as a red-and-white bird with feathers that look carved from wood or stone, and you glide across wide, stylized landscapes, wake ancient monuments, and fill in a map of each region as you go. The demo launch trailer, shown during The MIX Fall Game Showcase 2026, ends on a “DEMO OUT NOW” card with the Steam logo. A playable slice of the game is now live.

Quick answer: The Stonefeather demo is available now on Steam. It launched on October 8, 2026, the date given in the earlier demo announcement trailer.

Two trailers set the demo’s timeline. The first, an announcement trailer shown at TGS 2026, ended with “DEMO,” the date October 8 2026, and a Steam logo. The second is the launch trailer shown at The MIX Fall Game Showcase. It replaces the date with “DEMO OUT NOW,” which confirms the demo shipped as planned. Steam is the only platform named in either trailer.

The title card in both trailers spells the name as two words, “STONE FEATHER.” In the game’s dialogue, Stonefeather is also the bird’s name. A traveler addresses the player character as “Oh Great Stonefeather.”

Flight and abilities in Stonefeather

Almost all of the launch trailer is spent in the air. The bird glides, banks, and turns over grasslands, cliffs above the ocean, and valleys at sunset. Broken archways and ruins fill the distance. The game assigns you this bird, so it is not a custom avatar.

The trailers show these actions:

  • A cyan pulse that sends out a large shockwave in mid-air and pushes the bird forward at speed.
  • A vocal screech that sends out rings of sound while flying low.
  • Flying through glowing blue rings or gates in the sky.
  • Collecting floating blue motes along cliffs and above treetops.
  • Landing at stone monuments and lighting up their carved glyphs with cyan rings.
  • Catching a glowing blue butterfly, which turns the bird into a bright energy form in flight.

Giant statues are part of the scenery. One shot passes a huge stone bird with spread wings on a hilltop. A carved colossus also stands in the clouds behind the title card.

Stonefeather map tracker: Plains collectibles

The menu screen shows the scale of the game. The Plains region appears at 10 percent explored. Five counters track collectibles and progress in that region, and map pins show number badges such as 5 and 10.

CategoryCount shownRegion total
Stones49500
Butterflies210
Foxes550 (30 in one version)
Lore Statues210
Abilities03

The Foxes total differs between cuts of the same footage. One shows 50 and another shows 30, so the final number is not settled. The Abilities counter at 0/3 suggests that some movement or powers are unlocked over time in each region instead of being available from the start.

Lore Statues and the journal

Finding a Lore Statue adds a written entry to an in-game journal. The entry shown, titled “The statues,” is written in the first person. The writer finds the statues upsetting and decides to treat them as personal notes instead of reminders of the people who made them.

“From now on, I’ll use them as… notes. My own thoughts. Not theirs.”

The voiced lines in the launch trailer set up the premise in three beats: “They silenced the sky,” “Everything went still,” and “Then something answered.” The bird is that answer. A close-up shows its carved, spiral-marked feathers while the second line plays.

A second character shows up in both trailers. It is a hunched, cloaked figure in a cracked off-white mask and a feathered mantle, holding a wooden staff hung with feathers and talismans. This figure stands near a wooden hut in tall grass and speaks to the bird. The lines include “I prayed. Every day, I prayed” and a request to “Reawaken this slumbering world!”

Together, the trailers show what the Steam demo offers. You fly freely across the Plains, wake monuments with the bird’s cyan energy, and slowly fill in a region checklist built around 500 stones and a small set of lore entries.
