Nuna and Fox are back, and this time the Arctic is fully 3D. E-Line Media debuted the first gameplay trailer for Never Alone 2 on October 16th, 2026, during The MIX Fall Online Showcase. Tim Schafer recorded a short video introduction for it. The 90-second trailer is narrated in Iñupiaq with English subtitles. It shows climbing, spirit-driven puzzles, and a cave full of giant green insects chasing a young girl across the tundra.

Quick answer: Never Alone 2 is E-Line Media’s 3D puzzle-platformer sequel for PC via Steam. It supports online and local split-screen co-op. It has no announced release date, but you can wishlist it now.

PC is the only confirmed platform so far. No consoles have been announced. The game is still in development, and no official launch window has been set.

Nuna, Fox, and the story behind Never Alone 2

The sequel centers on Nuna, an Iñupiaq girl in a fur-edged parka, and Fox, her Arctic fox companion. Fox’s spiritual powers are important to the narrative as well as the puzzles. The two journey across the Alaskan wilderness to discover a mysterious danger threatening their community. Like the original, the story was created with Alaska Native writers and elders through E-Line’s Inclusive Development process. The studio calls it an original story, rather than a retelling of the first game.

The narration sets up the conflict in a few lines. Nuna once saw her land as barren and cold. She learned to “hear Sila,” the Iñupiaq concept tying people to the land, the weather, and everything around them. Then the tone shifts.

“But something dark now threatens our song… A twisted mystery tests our connection to all things.”

The trailer closes on a callback to the series title: “Just like before, we will survive, because we are never alone.”

Never Alone 2 gameplay shown in the trailer

The original Never Alone was a side-scroller. The sequel moves the same pairing into 3D spaces, including snowy cliffs, ice sheets, frozen tundra, ice floes, and dark caves. E-Line also says the game has physics-based environmental puzzles.

Climbing and Fox’s role in traversal

Fox reaches places Nuna can’t. In the footage, the fox scrambles up rock walls to higher ledges and leaves glowing light trails that open paths. Nuna follows by climbing, jumping across chasms, and pushing a snow block up a ledge. Later clips show the pair crossing floating spirit paths, balancing on a magical beam, and riding a floating log through a misty, glowing cavern.

Spirit puzzles: runes, drums, and helpers

Most of the puzzle footage involves the spirit world. Several distinct setups appear:

  • Floating tree-like spirits with long arms and round faces that act as stepping platforms over a chasm.
  • Glowing green and yellow rune symbols that light up above the environment.
  • Wooden drum frames with carved animal faces arranged around a campfire, sending out beams of light.
  • A tentacled water spirit rising from an icy pool.
  • A giant glowing mask spirit whose stone-like hand lifts Nuna upward.

Insect creatures and chase sequences

Not every spirit is friendly. Carrying a torch, Nuna approaches a dark cave mouth, and large multi-legged green creatures pour out after her. The next sequence is an escape. She sprints across icy ridges during a snowstorm, slides down steep rock faces, and leaps over crumbling chasms. These insects are the clearest look yet at the “something dark” the narration warns about.

Summoning spirits

Near the end, golden light gathers around Nuna, and long white serpent-like spirits rise from the frozen ground and water. The trailer doesn’t explain whether this is a player ability or a story moment. It does suggest that the bond with Sila affects the world directly, not just the narration.

Never Alone 2 co-op and Steam wishlist

Like the first game, the sequel is designed for two players, one as Nuna and one as Fox. It now adds online co-op alongside local split-screen, so your partner doesn’t have to be on the same couch. Solo play with Fox as a companion is how the trailer presents it. E-Line has not given any further details about matchmaking or crossplay.

The trailer ends with a prompt to wishlist the game on Steam, the only storefront currently listed.

Never Alone 2 reveal timeline

The online trailer came about six weeks after the game’s first public appearance. On September 4th, E-Line brought the first playable demo of Never Alone 2 to the in-person MIX Fall Showcase in Seattle and released new screenshots on Steam. A month later, the studio confirmed a slot in the online showcase on October 16th. That stream was where the first gameplay trailer and Schafer’s introduction appeared.

The new trailer confirms the game’s direction: full 3D environments, co-op that works over the internet, and a story still grounded in Iñupiaq language and values. The release date is the main open question. Until E-Line announces one, the Steam wishlist is the only way to sign up.
