Into The Fire is a rescue game from Starward Industries, the Polish studio behind The Invincible. It is set around an erupting volcano. You play a rescuer in a heavy heat suit who flies into ash-buried towns, pulls survivors and animals out of burning buildings, and brings them back to a camp you build up over time. The new gameplay trailer, shown at The MIX Fall Game Showcase 2026, organizes the game into four phases and shows each one in action.
Quick answer: Into The Fire runs on a four-step loop of Explore, Extract, Rebuild, and Survive. It is coming to Steam and GOG.com, with early access planned for 2026 and no exact date confirmed.
Into The Fire’s core loop, phase by phase
The trailer splits the game into four parts and opens each one with a fiery title card. Each phase has a clear job, and the footage under each card shows how that job plays out.
| Phase | What you do | Tools and actions shown |
|---|---|---|
| Explore | Search ruined settlements | Scavenging, climbing poles, placing devices |
| Extract | Rescue trapped people and animals | Axe, fire extinguisher, carrying victims |
| Rebuild | Grow the survivor camp | Tents, greenhouse, workbench |
| Survive | Escape volcanic and strange threats | Ziplines, aiming, running from fireballs |
The phases are linked. What you scavenge while exploring feeds the camp, and the people and animals you extract are the ones who live there. Every on-screen moment carries a footer reading “IN DEVELOPMENT: VISUALS SUBJECT TO CHANGE,” so the look of the game may still change.
The rescuer, the heat suit, and the gyrocopter
The player character wears a full-body, reflective heat suit. It has a visored helmet, a breathing pack with an oxygen tank on the back, a utility harness, and a flashlight. The kit is built for the job. An axe or pickaxe handles doors and walls, and a fire-suppression tool clears flames in your path.

Each run starts at a base camp on an ash-covered summit. There, the rescuer boards a small gyrocopter and picks a target from a map screen with the prompt “CHOOSE THE DISASTER AREA YOU WANT TO GET TO.” A dotted route leads to a location called New Sindira. An NPC pilot at the aircraft has a speech bubble over their head, which suggests you can talk to characters at camp before you leave.
What each phase looks like in the trailer
Explore
Exploration goes through thick fog, broken towns, and ravines filled with lava. The rescuer picks up materials from abandoned buildings, with a “+1 Fabric” pickup shown on screen. They also climb a utility pole and search wrecked shops, with signs reading “fast food,” “BUS STOP,” and “TOBY PRICES.” Items you can grab and doorframes you can interact with are outlined. One tool is placed on the ground and fills a round green gauge.

Extract
Rescue is the core of the game. The rescuer breaks down blocked doors, finds trapped civilians, and puts out fires that block the way. Then they carry each person out by hand while volcanic debris falls around them. Animals are part of the rescue too. The trailer shows livestock such as goats being saved, not just people.

Rebuild
Back at base, the rescuer puts up tents and builds a greenhouse to grow food in the ash-covered land. The camp feels lived in. Rescued survivors rest around a fire, and a cat walks across a workbench. The final screen shows the rescuer sitting next to a dog, which points to animals sticking around after you save them.

Survive
The last phase shows burning rocks hitting a ruined village while the rescuer rides a zipline and saves a goat. The volcano is not the only threat. The rescuer also aims and fires at a floating fiery anomaly, then runs from exploding fireballs. Earlier footage showed glowing, jellyfish-like creatures that drift through rooms and burst into light, so these strange beings appear to be a regular part of the game’s dangers.

Into The Fire systems from Starward’s first gameplay reveal
Starward’s first, longer gameplay reveal showed several systems that the short trailer only hints at. In that footage, the rescuer flies a propeller-driven ski-plane rather than the gyrocopter. These systems are worth knowing about:
- Your water supply runs out. The rescuer refills it at sinks, with a “Water Refill” progress bar.
- Fire spreads on its own. Explosions start new fires, and rooms can suddenly flash over.
- The volcano map shows an Alert Level, “Chances of life here,” and a count of “Property to be found.”
- A notebook page titled “Things that remained” lists personal items you recover, such as an ID Card and a Ritual puppet.
- Survivors call out with “Screams for help!” prompts, which guide you to them inside buildings.
The map stats suggest you choose expeditions by weighing risk against what you might find. A higher alert level, more people to save, or more property to recover each change why you would pick one area over another.
Into The Fire release status and platforms
Into The Fire is coming to PC through Steam and GOG.com. Starward has said the game will launch in early access in 2026, but it has not set an exact date. The showcase trailer ends with a “WISHLIST NOW!” screen, and a second version of the same ending reads “PLAYTESTS AVAILABLE NOW!” That means playtesting has started before early access, and the Steam page is where you can wishlist the game for now.
