Fortnite: One Piece Chest Location (Story Moment Mini-Season Teaser)

The Nice Shark Chest sits in a lagoon east of Sunken Shores and changes daily until Fortnite Override ends.

A giant pirate chest now sits in the water on Fortnite’s Override map. It has a glitched blue look, chains, and a skull lock on the front. Epic calls it the Nice Shark Chest, and it is the first in-game piece of the story moment that closes out Override. It also teases the next mini-season, which many players expect to feature One Piece. The chest has been live since October 17 at 9 AM ET, and it is easy to find once you know which lagoon to check.

Quick answer: The Nice Shark Chest is in the lagoon east of Sunken Shores, south of the Mega Maze. Its chest symbol stays visible on the map.

How to reach the Nice Shark Chest in Fortnite

The chest is in the southern part of the island, among the small islands and shallow water just off the coast from Sunken Shores. It glows brightly, so you can usually spot it from the Battle Bus before you jump.

Open the full map in a match and find the chest icon. It sits in the lagoon east of Sunken Shores, just south of the Mega Maze.
Jump from the Battle Bus and glide toward the glowing blue shape in the water. Placing a marker on the icon first makes the approach easier.
Land next to the chest or right on top of it. You can stand on the lid and walk around it freely.

You are at the right spot if you see a large, chained, glitchy blue chest with a pirate skull lock, and skulls sometimes flicker into view around its sides and back. Hitting it with a pickaxe does nothing. That is how it is meant to work right now.

What the One Piece chest does right now

For now, the chest is scenery with a timer attached. Visiting it does not count toward anything. The basic rules are simple:

  • It gives no loot, XP, or other rewards when you visit.
  • It cannot be damaged or destroyed.
  • Its map icon is permanent, so it shows up in every match.
  • It stays on the island until Fortnite Override ends.

The glitched look fits Override’s video game theme. In the fiction, the chest is still “loading” onto the island, and it will become more solid over the season’s final week.

Nice Shark Chest stages and timing

Override does not have a big live end-of-season event. The story moment plays out on the chest itself, one step at a time. Leaked files show the chest moving through six stages before it fully appears.

PhaseWhat happensTiming
Stages 1–6Chest gradually glitches into placeOne stage daily, 9 AM ET (13:00 UTC)
Day 7Chest fully loaded and interactableAfter the sixth stage
Final formPurple wood with gold corner bracesOnce fully loaded

Once the chest is fully loaded on the seventh day, you can interact with it to play several voice lines. Leaked data also shows a different song attached to the chest each day. The first three are A$AP Rocky’s “RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n),” Lil Uzi Vert’s “What You Saying,” and “BIRDBRAIN” by Anamanaguchi featuring Hatsune Miku, Jamie Paige, and OK Glass. More tracks follow after those.

The stage count, voice lines, and song list come from leaks, not from Epic. Timing or content could change before each daily update goes live.

Is the chest confirmed as a One Piece teaser?

Not officially. The Nice Shark Chest is a Fortnite-original creation, with no One Piece branding on it to date. Epic has made no crossover announcement. Before the chest appeared in-game, leakers called its map icon a One Piece teaser. Widespread rumors point to an anime-themed next mini-season, led by One Piece. They also suggest One Piece content in the Battle Pass and additional Sprite interactions.

The date is firmer than the theme. Fortnite’s next season begins on November 1, after server downtime that starts at 4 AM ET (08:00 UTC). Until then, the lagoon east of Sunken Shores is where the build-up happens. Check back after 9 AM ET each day to see how much more of the chest has loaded in.
