Every gun in Modern Warfare 4 has a single camo track. Kills in multiplayer and DMZ feed the same progress bar, and Warzone joins that shared track in Season 1. The ladder starts with cosmetics you get just by leveling a weapon. It ends with mode-specific Mastery camos that require work across all 33 weapons in the game. The order is strict, so knowing what gates what saves a lot of wasted matches.

Quick answer: Level a weapon for eight Military camos, then clear its three Special challenges for Gold. Next comes Platinum (Gold on the whole class), then Harmonic Break (Platinum on all 33), then Divergence, which opens Mastery.

MW4 camo unlock order on one weapon

Each tier depends on the one before it. The early tiers only care about the gun in your hands. The later tiers look at your whole arsenal.

TierCountRequirement
Military8 per weaponWeapon level-ups
Special3 per weaponWeapon-specific challenges
Gold1Follows the Special camos
Platinum1Gold on every weapon in the class
Harmonic Break1Platinum on all 33 weapons
Divergence1Harmonic Break on all 33 weapons
Mastery3 per modeOpened by Divergence, earned in order

Platinum is where the grind stops being about your favorite gun. A single marksman rifle you never touch blocks Platinum for that entire class. Harmonic Break, Divergence, and every Mastery camo inherit that dependency.

Military camos: unlocked by weapon level

The eight Military camos are universal designs that are shared across all 33 weapons. They have no challenges. Each one unlocks when a gun hits a certain weapon level, and that level varies from gun to gun. Five of the eight are confirmed by slot.

Special camos: three challenges per gun

After the Military set, each weapon has three Special camos with their own challenges. These designs are unique to each weapon, which puts close to a hundred Special camos in the game. You can clear the challenges in multiplayer or DMZ. In DMZ, kills on non-player enemies count, but the challenges ask for a higher kill count than the multiplayer versions do.

Weapons that count toward Platinum and Harmonic Break

Platinum is tracked per class, so this roster is effectively your checklist. The 32 guns below and a melee weapon make up the 33 weapons that Harmonic Break and Divergence count.

ClassWeapons
Assault rifles (8)Han 86, M4, Hyeon Burst, Patriot XMR, Kastov 762, Oden, Axion, Cronen Squall
Submachine guns (5)ISO Nightshade, VEL 46, Wz.55 Striga, PPSh-41, X-58 Nyx
Shotguns (2)Rezi 12, Warlord
Light machine guns (3)Finn LMG, Type 73, APOC-338
Marksman rifles (3)MAR-9, Oris 8.6, Mosin Nagant
Sniper rifles (3)KG-7 Vulcan, Astaroth .57, Signal 50
Pistols (4)Sang 9mm, Krait P68, .50 GS, Mojave .357
Launchers (4)PILA, RPG-8, JOKR, PM-40 Anvil

Some of these guns stay locked until well into the player level curve. The Cronen Squall doesn’t arrive until level 55, the PM-40 Anvil until level 54, and the Axion until level 52. That means a few classes can’t reach Platinum until you’ve ranked up far enough to own every gun in them.

Mastery camos by mode: Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone

Earning Divergence ends the shared track. From there, progress splits into three separate Mastery paths, one for each mode. Each path holds three camos, which makes nine in total. Several older names come back with a “Reforged” tag.

ModeFirstSecondThird
MultiplayerMercurial DriftPolyatomic ReforgedOrion Reforged
DMZChiralRipple TideHelio
WarzoneParallaxDamascus ReforgedEmpyros

Within each mode, the three camos follow the same scaling pattern as the base track:

  • The first Mastery camo opens on a weapon once that weapon’s camo track is finished.
  • Earn the first camo with every weapon in its class to make the second available.
  • The second camo must be earned with every weapon before the third becomes available.
  • Helio is awarded automatically after Ripple Tide is earned on enough weapons.

The challenges for the Warzone Mastery camos (Parallax, Damascus Reforged, and Empyros) won’t be revealed until Season 1, which is also when Warzone joins the shared camo track.

Pyroclast camos from Weapon Prestige

The Pyroclast set doesn’t depend on challenges at all. It comes from Weapon Prestige, and each weapon earns its own copy of the four camos.

CamoUnlock point
PyroclastWeapon Prestige 1, level 1
Pyroclast VergeWeapon Prestige 1, max level
Pyroclast ScatterPrestige Master level 150
Pyroclast CascadePrestige Master level 250

The second camo in the set also appears under the name Pyroclast Terminus. Either way, it’s the reward for taking a weapon to max level in its first Prestige.

Litmus, Moonlit Pearl, and Gilded Ruin

Three universal camos sit completely outside the grind. Litmus was a hidden Beta reward for 1,500 Operator kills. Eliminations and assists didn’t count toward it, and it can no longer be earned now that the Beta has ended. Moonlit Pearl comes with a qualifying digital pre-order. Gilded Ruin needs that same pre-order plus 5,000 Skulls earned in Black Ops 7 or Warzone.

Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23rd, which is when the full camo track goes live for every weapon. Weapon level and Special challenge progress carry the early hours. Once Gold is done on your first gun, the rest of the ladder comes down to how many of the 33 weapons you’re willing to finish.
