Hell Clock, Rogue Snail’s roguelike action RPG set during Brazil’s War of Canudos, is getting another free content drop. Journey of Miracles is dated for October 20th, and game director Felipe Todeschini walks through it in a two-minute trailer. The update is built around one new risk-reward loop. You find corrupted shrines in dungeons, agree to make the fight harder, and leave with a blessing that lasts for the rest of the run.

Quick answer: Journey of Miracles is a free Hell Clock update dated October 20th. It adds Defiled Sanctums, run-long Divine Blessings, an Act 1 area called the Underground Crypt, and a permanent, untimed Journey you can toggle on or off.

Defiled Sanctums: Optional Fights With Strings Attached

Defiled Sanctums show up at random during dungeon runs. They are marked by statues that glow purple, and interacting with one opens a menu titled “Purify the Defiled Sanctum.” That menu tells you what lives inside (the trailer’s example warns that Infernal Hounds prowl within) and lists the Taints you have to accept before you go in.

Taints are negative modifiers tied to the oath. Accepting them is the price of entry. The Sanctum shown in the trailer stacks three of them:

  • Downfall, where the Sanctum falls apart around you during the fight
  • Enemies gain +25% Elemental Resistance
  • Enemies gain +30% Life

Once you hit “Accept Challenge,” the arena is a cramped room of crystal formations and red floor hazards. Clearing it purifies the Sanctum. The reward is new Relics, currency drops, and a Divine Blessing. The oath screen spells out that last part directly, noting that a Divine Blessing is granted once the oath is fulfilled.

Divine Blessings Reshape a Single Run

After a Sanctum is cleansed, an illuminated shrine offers a choice of Divine Blessings. They stay active for the whole run, not just the next floor. Each one is tied to a devotion: Fury, Discipline, or Faith. They are named after deities, and they change how a build plays rather than nudging a stat by a few points.

Logun EdéStand still for 1s+60% Attack and Cooldown Speed, 20% Mana regen per second
TupãEvery 10m movedCasts Tupã’s Wrath at 50% Projectile Amount

The two examples pull in opposite directions. Logun Edé rewards planting your feet, and the bonus disappears the moment you move. Tupã pays you for constant motion and adds a second effect: Shocked enemies have all their Resistances permanently cut by 11%. Picking one over the other is less about raw power and more about which way your build already wants to play.

Underground Crypt: A New Act 1 Area

Journey of Miracles also adds a new location to Act 1. The Underground Crypt is a run of stone bridges and candlelit corridors with its own enemy roster and a mini-boss. Because it sits in the first act, every character will pass through it early, not just players deep into the endgame.

Journey of Miracles Goals Have No Timer

Journeys are Hell Clock’s chapter-based goal tracks, and Rogue Snail is explicit that they don’t work like live-service seasons. Nothing expires. The trailer labels it “No FOMO,” and the Journey of Miracles goals stay available indefinitely. Each chapter is a checklist that leans on the new systems, and the targets climb steeply between the first and third chapters.

Journeys are switched on in the Game Setup screen when you create a save, next to the existing choices for Campaign or Ascension, Softcore or Hardcore, and Regular or Veteran. They can be left off entirely. You can also run more than one at once. The trailer shows Journey of Miracles and Journey of Nightmares both enabled on the same setup screen, alongside options such as Allow Pause, Vengeance Mode, and All Skills Available.

Hell Clock Changes Since Launch

Hell Clock launched on PC on July 22nd, 2025, and the second half of the trailer recaps what has changed since then. None of this is new in Journey of Miracles, but it describes the game you’ll be dropping into on October 20th.

  • Performance optimizations aimed at a wide range of hardware
  • Movement 2.0, a rework that makes dashing and dodging more responsive
  • Endless Nightmares, an endgame mode built on Shards of Place and Shards of Hope
  • The Cursed War expansion, with six new skills and an extra campaign act
  • More than 100 new items, including some equipment designed by community members

The performance segment is set in a crowded desert fight, which is exactly the kind of screen-filling spell spam that strained machines in the game’s busiest moments at launch.

Endless Nightmares uses Shards as run modifiers. Shards of Place carry the line “Ground Yourself, do not suffer your mind to wander” and are tied to locations such as the Wetlands, Infected Basement, and Bog. Shards of Hope are framed as “something to hold on to in the darkest hour.”

The trailer’s end slate carries Hell Clock Cursed War branding with Steam, PS5, and Xbox logos, and the setup screen shows build v0.2.9.0.0. Journey of Miracles costs nothing. What it asks for is a willingness to make your runs harder on purpose, and it pays back with blessings strong enough to rebuild your character around them.
