Battlefield 6 is getting the features players have asked for since launch, but not this month. Developers from Ripple Effect and Motive answered community questions in the official Battlefield Discord’s October Q&A. They laid out when Platoons and the Server Browser arrive, how persistent lobbies will work, which weapons and gadgets are being rebalanced, and what is planned for the game’s second year. Season 5, Siege of Vegas, began on October 13th, 2026. Much of what was discussed lands later in the season or beyond it.
Quick answer: Platoons and the Server Browser arrive on December 8th with Season 5 Phase 3, Frozen Aces. Jet customization is currently slated to arrive in Season 6. Details about year two are expected early in the new year.
Battlefield 6 Season 5 and beyond: What arrives when
Some answers came with a firm phase attached. Others came with only a commitment and no timing. The split looks like this:
| Feature or change | Timing | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Server Browser | Season 5 Phase 3 (Dec 8) | In internal testing |
| Platoons | Season 5 Phase 3 (Dec 8) | Confirmed |
| Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City reworks | Season 5 Phase 3 | Confirmed |
| Gunplay and TTK changes | Season 5 Phase 2 | Targeted |
| Multiplayer leaderboards | Later in Season 5 | In internal testing |
| Jet weapon customization | Season 6 | Planned, subject to change |
| Helicopter changes and TV Missile | No timeline | Being explored |
| Proximity chat in multiplayer | No timeline | Testing in Battle Royale first |
| Year two roadmap | Early in the new year | Details not yet shared |
Frozen Aces is the name of Phase 3, the final part of a season divided into three phases through year’s end. Season 5 also expands Spectator Mode alongside the Elite Series.

Add to Google Preferences →Server Browser and persistent lobbies
The Server Browser does not replace matchmaking. The two systems share the same pool of official servers. If you pick a server from the browser, you get a persistent lobby: you and the other players stay together between rounds instead of being scattered after every match. If you use Custom Search or an official playlist, you can still be placed on those same official servers. The difference is that you may be moved off between matches, depending on the maps and modes you selected.
For Battlefield 6 owners, the browser is planned to appear in three places:
- The first tile in the Quickplay menu
- A Verified Experiences Server Browser tile in Portal
- A Custom Server Browser tile in Portal, second in line, for user-created experiences
The feature is undergoing internal testing, and a dedicated Server Browser blog post will provide more information. Separately, developers are aware that a bug prevents some players from joining Portal servers; they intend to resolve it in a later update. Rented servers are not currently planned.
How Platoons work in Battlefield 6
Platoons are Battlefield’s version of clans. They are built for groups of up to 100 members, and the first version is simple:
- A dedicated Platoons tab in the main menu
- A custom tag, name, and description for each platoon
- An XP bonus for playing with your platoon
- Platoon management and member hierarchy are handled in the EA Connect UI within the game
Developers did not confirm the badges, patches, or emblems players asked about. They said Platoons will change based on feedback and on how players use them. More details are promised closer to the December 8th release.
Gunplay, gadgets, and balance changes
Weapon tuning is the most active part of the roadmap. REDSEC already received some gunplay changes to prepare for the upcoming Elite Series. Players asked why weapons like the SCW-10 were only adjusted in REDSEC, where time-to-kill is already longer. The answer is that broader gunplay and TTK changes for both traditional multiplayer and REDSEC are targeted for Season 5 Phase 2.
Support Pouch and class gadgets
The team is evaluating every gadget. The Support Pouch often rolls and bounces several feet away when thrown, putting it high on the list, but no fix date has been announced. Several Assault gadgets have also been identified as behaving incorrectly. Gameplay data gathered since launch will inform these changes. Some Training Paths are weaker than others and may be rebalanced.

Counter-sniping bolt-action rifles
Right now, hitting a sniper barely affects their aim. A bolt-action player can still hold their breath, steady the scope, and land a one-shot headshot while being shot. Developers called this a critical issue. The options being tested range from more sway or dispersion while a sniper is under fire to actual aim deviation when they are hit. No specific solution has been chosen yet.

Attachments, 3D spotting, and spread
Expensive attachments are meant to cost more because they offer bigger upsides, not because they come with matching downsides. Still, some grips and muzzle brakes are priced so high that almost nobody uses them, and targeted adjustments for those are being considered. The 3D spot that triggers when you fire is getting a second look too. The team sees it as a layer of tactical depth and won’t drop it entirely, but alternatives are on the table.

A few other weapon points are settled. The Minigun and Railgun have already had a balance pass. Dispersion, also called bloom or bullet spread, has not changed in recent updates. There are no plans for Actuated Module variants that reduce recoil or speed up aiming down sights, because the attachment is based on real stabilization technology and its current effects reflect that.
Jets, helicopters, and the TV Missile
Every launch jet for each faction is planned to get weapon customization options in Season 6, though developers noted the plan could change. The new two-seater jets may come to more maps, but technical performance and balance problems need to be solved first.
Scout and Attack helicopters are being looked at for new balance and new abilities. One of those abilities is the TV Missile for the Attack helicopter, a weapon series veterans have expected since 2005. Developers want to improve the weapon before putting it on more vehicles. It is described as a target, but there is no timeline.
Modes, maps, and features on hold
Not every request got a yes. Here is where the remaining questions landed:
| Request | Answer |
|---|---|
| Carrier Strike and Gauntlet Fighter Sweep | Wanted back in future seasons |
| Proximity chat in multiplayer | Committed, but more work needed |
| Commander Mode | No official plans |
| Crossplay toggle on PC | No current plans |
| Fort Lyndon points of interest in all core modes | No plans |
| Strikepoint bug fixes | Lower priority due to low player count |
| Ranked Matchmaking in Asia-Pacific and South America | Changes under review |
Proximity chat started in Battle Royale Ranked. It will soon expand to Rapid Royale to gather more test data before any multiplayer release. Weather will stay map-specific, so future maps could add rain, snow, or night conditions as events or as part of a map’s setting. Classic weapons like the M9 have not been forgotten, and a large amount of new hardware is planned.
Battlefield 6 year two and the Season 5 launch feedback
Battlefield 6 launched on October 10th, 2025, and support continues past Season 5 into 2027 for both Battlefield 6 and REDSEC. There is no year-ahead roadmap yet. The team says it is focused on Season 5 and will share what comes next early in the new year. No specific date has been confirmed.
Developers also responded to criticism of the Season 5 launch patch, including complaints about cosmetics. They said they are adjusting their process to catch problems before they ship, and that they are reprioritizing plans around the issues players have raised.
The Dead Space crossover event was partly built by Motive developers who had worked on the Dead Space remake. For players who stayed for the Server Browser and Platoons, the date to watch is still December 8th.
