Quick answer: Heart of the Banyan has five Banyan Trees, one each in Crimson Forest, Pangzhen, Mandate Encampment, Meigu Lake and Mountain of Imprisonment.

What Heart of the Banyan asks you to do

Heart of the Banyan is one of Phantom Blade Zero’s tales, the game’s side quests. Its objective reads “Find the Human-Faced Banyan Trees”, and the trees are spread over five regions. That means the tale covers most of the map instead of staying in one area.

A Heart of the Banyan quest icon appears beside every tree. On a region map, head to that icon to find the tree next to it.

Banyan Tree locations by region

The five trees are in Crimson Forest, Pangzhen, Mandate Encampment, Meigu Lake and Mountain of Imprisonment, and each one is shown on the “Banyan Trees” layer of the Phantom Blade Zero interactive map.

Crimson Forest

The Crimson Forest tree is closest to the Parting Mists bell, with Burial Grounds as the next nearest. Crimson Forest is the first of the five regions on the story path, right after Weeping Creek Valley. You can check its position on the Crimson Forest map. If you have not rung any bells here yet, start with the first Crimson Forest bell.

Pangzhen

The Lion Dance Hall bell is nearest to the Pangzhen tree, and Old Man Gen’s House is the next closest. Its spot is marked on the Pangzhen map.

Mandate Encampment

Travel to the Sunset Path bell for the Mandate Encampment tree. Cliffside Walkway Entrance is the next nearest bell. The tree is shown on the Mandate Encampment map.

Meigu Lake

The Meigu Lake tree is right next to the Lake Banyan Dock bell. It appears on the Meigu Lake map.

Mountain of Imprisonment

The Shrine Outer Gate bell is nearest to the Mountain of Imprisonment tree, and The Lady’s Shrine is the next closest. You can find it on the Mountain of Imprisonment map.

The Banyan’s Heart and what it unlocks

The Banyan’s Heart is a separate item with a similar name. Its description reads “A dark crimson, heart-shaped growth covered in vein-like roots. Held in the hand, a faint, steady pulse can be felt within.” Its effect line reads “Used to unlock special abilities in Ability Training.” You use it through the Train Abilities option on any bell menu, which handles ability training.

There are two ways to get one:

  • At any of Quick Hand Zhang‘s hideouts in Village of Lu, Pangzhen or Meigu Lake, you can purchase it for 100,000 Remnant Dust.
  • Pick one up in Pangzhen.

Remnant Dust is the game’s currency, so you will need to save up a lot of it before buying from Zhang.

Even Trees Know Sorrow achievement

Finishing the tale unlocks the Silver achievement “Even Trees Know Sorrow”, with the description “Complete [Heart of the Banyan]”. When that achievement pops, the tale is complete. You can find it in the full list of Phantom Blade Zero achievements.
