Depth Incremental is a game about walking down stairs, and almost everything else in it exists to make that walk cheaper. The first stretch of the pit holds three locked doors, each tied to a Step number and a Cash price. Getting through them in the right order is most of the early game.
Quick answer: Buy Cash upgrades at Depth 20m. Reach Step 30 and pay 2,000 Cash for Fossils. Reach Step 50 and pay 120,000 Cash for the Worm Burrow. Then save 2.20M Cash for the Step 70 Upgrade Tree.
Depth Incremental gate requirements: Steps and Cash costs
Each gate checks two things. You have to stand at or past its Step number, and you have to have its Cash price on hand. Until both are true, the door shows a Locked label. Once you reach the right Step, the sign switches from “Step 30 required” to “Step 30 reached,” which tells you only the Cash is left to pay.
| Gate | Step needed | Cash cost | What it opens |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fossils | Step 30 | 2,000 Cash | Dirt Fossils dig room |
| Worms | Step 50 | 120,000 Cash | Worm Burrow |
| Upgrade Tree | Step 70 | 2.20M Cash | Upgrade Tree |
Each price is a big jump from the last one. The Worms door costs 60 times more than Fossils, and the Upgrade Tree costs more than 18 times the Worms door. Walking down the stairs alone will not cover that gap. You get there by stacking the multipliers that each room hands out.

Cash appears on its own as green stacks of bills on the staircase landings and inside rooms. You don’t click them. Walking near a stack collects it right away, and a green trail arcs from the bills to your character. Because you collect just by passing by, every trip up or down the stairs also earns you money.
Walking down the main staircase raises two counters, Step and Depth. Depth shows on screen as a readout like Depth: 20m. The Step count is what the gates check, so heading downward is how you meet each unlock requirement. You can climb back up at any time to spend money in rooms you have already opened.

Side chambers branch off the stairs as you go down. Cash spawns in them too, so it’s worth walking through each one on the way down instead of rushing past.

Cash Upgrades board at Depth 20m
The first place to spend money is the CASH UPGRADES board at Depth 20m. It sells three stat upgrades. Each one has a Buy button for a single rank and a Max button that buys as many ranks as you can afford. Every card shows your current rank, the maximum rank and what the next rank changes.
| Upgrade | Max rank | Early effect | Early price |
|---|---|---|---|
| More Cash | 99 | x1 > x2 Cash | 50 Cash (first rank) |
| Faster Cash | 16 | 0.95s > 0.9s delay | 500 Cash (rank 1 to 2) |
| Walk Speed | 5 | 16 > 17 speed | Varies by rank |
More Cash multiplies how much money you earn, and it has by far the most ranks, so you will keep coming back to it. Faster Cash cuts the wait between Cash payouts. Walk Speed makes your character move faster, which matters more than you might think in a game where you collect money by walking over it and keep running up and down the same stairs.

The same board also sells a 2x Cash pass that is labelled “2x Cash forever” and costs 99 Robux. It is optional. You can reach every gate below without it.
How to unlock the Fossils room at Step 30
Dirt Fossils: digging costs, rarities and caps
The Dirt Fossils room has a giant dinosaur skull, upgrade boards along one wall and a dig patch outlined in glowing yellow. To dig, stand on the glowing patch with the shovel equipped. Every dig costs 250 Cash, and the room’s sign tracks your total with a “Dug” counter.

Fossils pay you back permanently. Each one you collect raises your Cash multiplier, and some also raise your Luck multiplier. The room’s Buffs panel shows both, starting at Cash: 1x and Luck: 1x, along with your dig rate, which starts at one fossil every 1.5 seconds. Spending 250 Cash per dig early on is how you get the income to afford the Worms door.
Every fossil type has a maximum you can hold, and the rarer ones have very long odds. Raising Fossil Luck is how you start finding the deeper entries on the list.
| Fossil | Chance | Max held |
|---|---|---|
| Worm Cast | Common | 50 |
| Snail Shell | 1/5 | 40 |
| Fern Imprint | 1/20 | 30 |
| Beetle Husk | 1/75 | 25 |
| Fish Bone | 1/300 | 20 |
| Ammonite | 1/1K | 15 |
| Raptor Claw | 1/5K | 10 |
| Mammoth Tusk | 1/25K | 8 |
| Rex Skull | 1/100K | 5 |
| Amber Heart | 1/1M | 3 |
Your first digs will mostly turn up Worm Cast, Snail Shell and Fern Imprint. Each fossil card counts up toward its cap, so you can always see how many more of each type will still raise your multipliers.
Fossil Upgrades board
The FOSSIL UPGRADES board next to the dig patch sells three upgrades with Cash. Together they decide how many fossils each dig gives, how often you dig, and which rarities you can hit.
| Upgrade | Max rank | First rank | First price |
|---|---|---|---|
| More Fossils | 9 | +1 > +2 per dig | 10.0K Cash |
| Faster Digs | 10 | 1.5s > 1.4s | 5.00K Cash |
| Fossil Luck | 20 | x1 > x1.1 | 2.50K Cash |
Fossil Luck is the cheapest first buy and the only one that lets you reach rarer fossils, so most players start there. Faster Digs comes next because a shorter cooldown means more fossils per minute. More Fossils costs the most at first, but it doubles what each dig gives at its first rank.

The room’s own guide board spells out the rules. Stand on the glowing patch, every fossil boosts Cash, and each fossil has a cap that Fossil Luck helps you work past. A Fossil Master pass (239 Robux) adds x1.5 Fossil Luck, x1.5 Fossil Bulk and 1.5x Faster Digs. It is optional.
Reaching Step 50 and 120,000 Cash for the Worms door
Getting from 2,000 Cash to 120,000 is the first real grind. Below the Fossils room the staircase continues through the 40m range to the WORMS door, which needs Step 50 and 120K Cash. The fastest approach is to rotate through all three income sources instead of sitting in one spot.

While you grind, you can open the Inventory to check your Dirt Titles collection. The index starts at 0/108 titles found, and each title adds 2.5% to Title Luck. You won’t need it to reach the Worms door, but the menu shows how big the collection is.

Worm Burrow: collecting worms and golden worms
The Worm Burrow is a pink-lit room built around a round central platform, with neon strips marking the edges. Pink worms crawl across the floor, and you collect one by walking over it. Worms are a separate currency from Cash. The burrow sign shows how many worms are currently on the floor.

- The floor holds up to 14 worms at a time, shown as a counter like
Worms: 2/14. - A normal worm is worth +1 at base Worm Value.
- Any worm has a 12% chance to spawn golden, and golden worms are worth x10.
- Golden pickups show pop-ups like
GOLDEN! +10, rising to +20, +30 or +40 as Worm Value goes up.

Since the floor caps at 14, any worm that would spawn while the floor is full is lost. Circle the platform without stopping and collect worms as they appear, so the counter never sits at its limit.

Worm Upgrades board
Worms are spent at the WORM UPGRADES board inside the burrow. Like the other boards, each card has Buy and Max buttons. All three upgrades are paid for in worms, not Cash.
| Upgrade | Max rank | First rank | First price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Worm Value | 30 | +1 > +2 per worm | 5 Worms |
| Faster Worms | 12 | 1s > 0.94s spawn | 2 Worms |
| Cash Boost | 30 | x1 > x1.2 Cash | 10 Worms |

Worm Value and Faster Worms speed up worm collection, since each pickup is worth more and new worms spawn sooner. Cash Boost turns worms into Cash income, and that is the link back to the main goal of paying for the next gate. Buying a rank of each early, then raising them in turns, keeps both currencies growing.

The Max button helps a lot here because worm prices start so low. After a good run of golden worms, a single press can buy several ranks at once.

The board also sells a 2x Worms pass, labelled “2x Worms forever,” for 39 Robux. Worm collection works fully without it.

Saving 2.20M Cash for the Upgrade Tree at Step 70
Past the Worm Burrow, the staircase leads to Depth 58m and the UPGRADE TREE door. It needs Step 70 and 2.20M Cash. That’s the next goal, and you reach it the same way you reached the Worms door, just with three income sources running instead of two.

The loop goes like this. Farm worms in the burrow and spend them on Cash Boost and the worm-speed upgrades. Go up to dig fossils when your Cash can cover a batch of 250-Cash digs. Stop at the Depth 20m board whenever More Cash or Faster Cash becomes affordable. Collect the stair Cash stacks on every trip between rooms. Every multiplier you add makes the other two sources pay out more.

Head down and check the Step 70 door now and then. When it changes from “Step 70 required” to “Step 70 reached,” all that’s left is building up the 2.20M Cash. Until then, the burrow is the steadiest place to wait, because its Cash Boost upgrades keep raising your income everywhere else.
