Characters in Wuthering Waves are called Resonators, and each one is defined by three things that decide how they fight: an element, a weapon type, and a rarity. The roster spans cute support healers, ranged gunners, and heavy-hitting damage dealers, so knowing who sits where makes building a team far easier.
Quick answer: As of Version 3.4, there are 50 playable Resonators (53 if you count Rover’s three separate forms). They are split across six elements and five weapon types, with both 4-star and 5-star rarities.

Elements and weapon types in Wuthering Waves
Every Resonator carries one of six elements, which sets the type of damage they deal and shapes their combat style. The elemental system rewards thoughtful team building, since different enemies respond better to different damage types.
| Elements | Weapon types |
|---|---|
| Glacio | Broadblade |
| Fusion | Sword |
| Electro | Pistols |
| Aero | Gauntlets |
| Spectro | Rectifier |
| Havoc | — |
Each weapon type plays differently. Swords and broadblades favor close-range melee, pistols are built for ranged pressure, gauntlets focus on fast melee combos, and rectifiers control puppets or companions from a distance. Rover is unique here, starting on the Spectro element before unlocking a separate Havoc form.

Spectro characters
Lucy is a 5-star Spectro pistol user introduced as part of the Cyberpunk Edgerunners collaboration. She is designed to pair closely with Rebecca, the two acting as a default team for one another.

How many characters are in Wuthering Waves
There are 50 playable Resonators in Version 3.4. Of those, 40 are female and 10 are male. That count excludes Rover, who can be either gender based on your choice. Counting Rover’s three distinct forms, the number of unique kits rises to 53.
| Group | Count | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Female | 40 | 80% |
| Male | 10 | 20% |
| Total playable | 50 | 100% |

How to get characters
Most Resonators, and nearly every 5-star, are obtained by summoning on Convene banners using Astrite, the game’s premium currency. The pity system guarantees a 5-star Resonator after 80 pulls on a character Convene banner. Some 4-star Resonators can be earned for free through events, such as the free copy of Sanhua available from the Gifts of Thawing Frost login event.
In Version 3.4, Rebecca is handed out free to everyone via Instant Flashlight, though her banner still runs for players who want extra copies. Lucy and Lucilla are both limited 5-star pulls during the same version.

Upcoming Wuthering Waves characters
Cartethyia’s banner is scheduled for June 18. Beyond that, six more Resonators, all hailing from Jinzhou, Mingting, and Mengzhou in Huanglong, are lined up to release from Version 3.5 onward.

With a roster this broad, the smartest move is to pick an element you enjoy playing and build a team around its strongest damage dealer and a matching support. The element and weapon tables above give you everything you need to plan that team before spending a single Astrite.
