How to Get the Troll Canyon Focus Stone in Gothic 1 Remake

Follow Milten, shrink the adult troll, and pull the focus across a gap with Telekinesis for 3,500 XP.

The Focus in the Troll Canyon is a Chapter 3 quest in Gothic 1 Remake, and it is the most straightforward of the four focus stone hunts. You head into a ruined site north of the Old Camp, deal with the adult troll standing in your way, and pull a hidden focus stone across a gap using Telekinesis. Because that final step relies on magic, mana gear matters here.

Quick answer: Reach the Troll Canyon ruins north of the Old Camp, gather four to five troll hides for Milten so he crafts a Shrinking Scroll, cast it on the adult troll and kill it, then use a Telekinesis scroll on the glowing ore to form a bridge, grab the focus stone, and return it to Saturas for 3,500 XP.

Before you start: mana gear and timing

The focus stone sits across a gap that you can only bridge with Telekinesis. Pulling the ore close enough needs a good amount of mana, so equip your best +mana ring and amulet before you set out. It also helps to sleep and travel during the morning, since the ruins are dark and small items blend into the ground at night unless you carry a torch.

Tip: Turning on the Object Outliner in the settings makes the troll hides far easier to spot, as they otherwise camouflage against the terrain.

How to find the Troll Canyon

Leave through the north gate of the Old Camp, cross the bridge, and keep heading north along the trail. The Troll Canyon lies northwest of the colony, right beside the bandit refugee camp.
Before you reach the ravine, take the right-hand turn and push through the woods toward the ruins. Expect a few wolves or bloodflies on the way, but nothing serious.

At the base of the ruins you will meet Milten. He warns you about the troll guarding the site and then leads you into a nearby cave. There he explains his plan to craft a Shrinking Scroll, which needs troll hide.

Collect troll hides for the Shrinking Scroll

Gather four to five troll hides scattered around the ruins. Check the troll nest and the bases of the statues and pillars. If you already skinned the troll during the Monastery Ruins focus quest, one hide will be waiting in your inventory.

The area swarms with Black Goblins, so clear them out, ideally from a distance so their numbers do not overwhelm you. Keep avoiding the adult troll while you collect. The hides near the Temple Gate are easiest to reach if you move counterclockwise, since the troll patrols the same way. If it spots you, run to Milten’s cave, because the troll will not follow you inside.
Bring the hides back to Milten in the cave. He crafts the Shrinking Scroll and hands it to you.

Note: Milten can be knocked out during fights, which lets you take his items without penalty. If you do, he fights only with his fists for the rest of the quest and becomes far less useful, which hurts on higher difficulties. Wait until after the goblins and troll are dead if you still want to do it.

Defeat the adult troll

Leave the cave and cast the Shrinking Scroll on the troll right away. You only have one scroll, so make the shot count. Once the troll shrinks, hit it a few times to drop its health to zero.

If you would rather skip the hides entirely, you can fight the full-size troll head on. For that, bring the Dodge Roll skill, since the standard dodge will not clear its swings. Dodge backward when it slams or sweeps its arms, close in for a single hit, then back off and repeat until it falls. You can learn Dodge Roll through Acrobatics Level 1 from Buster at the New Camp.

Enter the temple and grab the chest loot

With the troll dead, work the levers together with Milten to open the temple. Inside you will find two paths.
Take the right path first to reach a chest. It holds useful magic gear worth grabbing before you move on.
Chest contents
Telekinesis Rune
Rain of Fire Scroll
Amulet of Spiritual Power
2x Fireball Scroll
2x Healing Scroll
Take the left path to climb to the upper section of the temple. Be ready to fight three to four harpies guarding this stretch.

Use Telekinesis to reach the Focus Stone

Pick up the Telekinesis scroll from the pedestal at the base of the stairs. There is one here and another by the pedestal outside in front of the focus location, on top of the Telekinesis Rune from the chest.
Move to the edge of the platform and aim Telekinesis at the glowing blue crystal, the glowing ore, on the far side. Keep pulling until it extends into a bridge or until you can jump across the gap. This is where your mana gear pays off, so make sure your best rings and amulet are equipped.
Cross the gap and interact with the focus stone. This dismisses the barrier and adds the focus to your inventory.

Turn in the focus to Saturas

Carry the focus back to Saturas to complete the quest and earn 3,500 XP. You can hand it over right away, or hold it and collect the other three focus stones first before making one trip. Your journal confirms success once it reads that you brought Saturas the Troll Canyon focus. Milten, meanwhile, stays behind to investigate the ruins.

This is the gentlest of the four focus stone retrievals, so clearing it early gives you a solid mana-focused loadout and a smooth path toward finishing the Focus Stones questline.
