Speed is everything in Clean The Library, and the class you run decides how fast you clear a room. There are six classes to unlock, and they split neatly into two jobs: pumping up your Magic spells and getting you moving quicker. The gap between the top pick and the starter class is huge, so knowing what to grind toward saves you a lot of wasted tokens.
Quick answer: Aim for Grand Librarian if you can afford the 100 Ascend Tokens, since it boosts every spell plus Speed and Jump. Grind Sage first at just 12 tokens for nearly the same spell multipliers minus the movement perks.
Clean The Library class tier list (July 2026)
This ranking reflects the current class lineup as of July 2026. Two things decide each spot: how strong the Magic multiplier is on your most useful spells, and how much the class perk cuts your overall clear time. Cost was left out of the ranking itself, since you earn tokens every time you finish a stage.
| Tier | Classes |
|---|---|
| S | Grand Librarian, Sage |
| A | Enchanter, Athlete |
| B | Librarian |
| C | Apprentice |

Why the S-tier classes win
Grand Librarian is the outright best class in the game. It buffs every spell you can cast, and it hits the two that count most, Magnet and Scan, at x1.5. On top of that it layers a x1.5 Speed and x1.5 Jump bonus, so you keep moving fast between rows even before your spells come online. It is the only class with no real weakness.
Sage sits right beside it because it copies those exact spell multipliers, x1.5 Magnet, Scan and Glow plus x5 Organize, and drops only the movement perks. The trade is worth it. Sage costs 12 Ascend Tokens against Grand Librarian’s 100, which makes it the sensible endgame target while you save up for the top slot.
Where Enchanter, Athlete, and the rest land
Enchanter earns its A-tier spot with a solid Glow and Magnet boost, backed by a x2 Scan that helps you read a room early. Athlete takes the other A slot for a very different reason. Its +2 Carry, x2 Speed and x2 Jump give the biggest raw movement package in the game, and those bonuses work the instant you load in, before you have sorted enough rows to unlock spells. That makes it excellent for duo or group runs.
Librarian drops to B. It offers a modest speed bump and a decent Carry boost, but its only spell multiplier is on Scan, which is less impactful than Magnet or Glow. Apprentice rounds out the bottom at C. As the starter class it only grants +1 Carry, so you will want to move off it quickly.
The smartest unlock order for beginners
Finishing the Grand Library rewards 2, 4, or 6 tokens for Easy, Normal, and Pro mode. That token math shapes the fastest path up the ladder.
Stick with that route and you will be sorting shelves at record pace, with every spell multiplier and movement perk working in your favor.
