Haze Seas Gum Gear 4: How to Unlock the Transformation and All Moves

The full requirement chain, from Gear 2 to farming six Gear 4 Books at the Poneglyph.

The full requirement chain, from Gear 2 to farming six Gear 4 Books at the Poneglyph.

Gear 4 is the second awakening on the Gum Fruit’s path in Haze Seas, sitting between Gear 2 and the final Gear 5 form. It is not a separate Devil Fruit. You keep the same Gum Fruit and stack the transformation on top of it, which means the entire process is about clearing prerequisites, farming a rare book, and awakening the form at the right structure in Sea 2.

Quick answer: Own the Gum Fruit, unlock Gear 2, then farm the Gear 4 Boss on the Level 1900 Island for Gear 4 Books. Take a book to the Poneglyph on the Sea 2 spawn island, choose the Gear 4 option to consume one book and unlock the form, then spend five more books there to unlock all five moves.

Requirements before you can unlock Gear 4

You cannot skip straight to Gear 4. The Poneglyph will refuse the awakening until you have cleared the earlier stage and reached Sea 2. Everything hinges on keeping the Gum Fruit equipped, since dropping or trading it removes any Gear forms you have already learned.

RequirementDetail
Gum FruitMust be owned and equipped throughout.
Gear 2Unlocked first from the Gear 2 Trainer.
Sea 2 accessReach the Level 2200 spawn island where the Poneglyph sits.
Gear 4 BooksSix total: one for the transformation, five for the moves.

Unlock Gear 2 first

Gear 2 is the gate for everything after it. To buy it from the trainer, your character needs Level 750, 100,000 Beli, and 300 Gum Fruit Mastery.

Travel to the Level 1900 Island, which is the second island from the far left on the Sea 1 world map.
Head to the elevated platform and search the rocks beneath it. One rock hides a secret entrance. Look for a darker section of wall and walk straight through it.
Talk to Fitness Trainer Yoka inside the hidden cave and submit the requirements. Gear 2 then appears in your skill list automatically.

Farm the Gear 4 Book from the Gear 4 Boss

The Gear 4 Book is the key item, and it is a Legendary drop from the Gear 4 Boss. That boss is on the same Level 1900 Island, so there is no extra travel needed to start the grind. From the Gear 2 cave, climb the stone steps near the large tower to reach the upper plateau, where the boss stands.

The book has roughly a 0.5% drop chance per kill, so expect a long farm. Defeat the boss repeatedly and collect drops until the book appears on the ground. When it does, pick it up with the prompt and it enters your inventory.

Note: Because you will need six books in total, it is efficient to keep farming the boss here before moving on, rather than making multiple trips back to Sea 1.

Awaken Gear 4 at the Poneglyph in Sea 2

The Gear 4 Book alone does nothing until you bring it to the awakening structure. That structure is the Poneglyph, a large square block on the Sea 2 spawn island, which is also the Level 2200 spawn point.

Travel to Sea 2 and load into the Spawn Island.
Go to the right side of the island and find the giant square Poneglyph.
Interact with it and select the Gear 4 option. The game consumes one Gear 4 Book and permanently unlocks the transformation for your Gum Fruit.

Unlock all five Gear 4 moves

Awakening the form only gives you the transformation itself. None of the abilities come with it. Each of the five moves must be unlocked separately at the Poneglyph, and every unlock costs one more Gear 4 Book. That is why the full total is six books, one for the form and five for the skills.

KeyMove
NGear 4th (activates the form)
ZKong Gun
XDouble Culverin
CFlight
VKong Organ
BKing Kong Gun

Return to the Gear 4 Boss whenever you run short on books, then spend each one at the Poneglyph until every skill slot is filled.

How to confirm Gear 4 is active

Once the awakening goes through, “N – Gear 4th” is added to your skill list. Pressing N triggers a transformation animation with steam and smoke, and your character shifts into the bulkier Gear 4 form. If a move key does nothing, you have not yet spent a book on that specific skill, so head back to the Poneglyph with another Gear 4 Book to fill it in.

From here, the same Gum Fruit path continues to Gear 5, which is awakened at the Poneglyph using Drums of Liberation from the Dragon Boss. Gear 4 and all of its moves are part of the requirements for that final stage, so completing it fully now saves backtracking later.
