A Botched Escape is one of the Dry Tortuga Assassin Contracts in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. It sends Edward Kenway after two fugitive murderers hiding in Havana, and it rewards you for taking both of them out in a single motion.
Quick answer: Travel to Havana in Dry Tortuga at map coordinates 214,596, position yourself so both fugitive murderers stand close together, and hit them with a double assassination to clear the objective and its bonus.

How to unlock Assassin Contracts
Assassin Contracts do not appear on your map from the start. They open up as you play through the Overrun and Outnumbered main quest. James Kidd introduces the contracts once you finish that quest, after which every available contract is marked in your quest log and on the map.
Until you reach that point, A Botched Escape will not be selectable. If you cannot find the marker, keep progressing the main story until James Kidd hands the contracts over.

The contract starts in Havana within the Dry Tortuga region. Set a waypoint to the coordinates below and head to the target area to begin.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Region | Dry Tortuga |
| Location | Havana |
| Coordinates | 214,596 |
| Main objective | Kill the two fugitive murderers |
| Bonus objective | Double assassinate the targets |
How to land the double assassination bonus
The main objective only asks you to kill both fugitive murderers. The bonus is the harder part, because a double assassination requires both targets to be within reach of the same takedown at the same time.

Tip: If one target strays and you can only reach him alone, killing them separately still completes the contract, but you forfeit the 500 Reales bonus. Reload from a checkpoint if you want to retry for the double kill.
Rewards and how to confirm completion
Each Assassin Contract pays 1500 Reales for the main objective, plus a 500 Reales bonus when you meet the secondary challenge. Clearing A Botched Escape with a clean double assassination gives you the full 2000 Reales.
| Payout | Reales |
|---|---|
| Main objective | 1500 |
| Double assassination bonus | 500 |
| Total | 2000 |
You know the contract is done when the on-screen objective updates to complete and the reward is credited. If the bonus line stays unmarked after both kills, the double assassination did not register, which almost always means the two targets were struck separately rather than in one takedown.
