Echoes of Aincrad Demo Length: How Long It Runs and What’s Playable

The free trial covers the full Beta Test chapter across five missions, with save data that carries into the full game.

The free trial covers the full Beta Test chapter across five missions, with save data that carries into the full game.

The free trial for Echoes of Aincrad hands you the game’s entire Beta Test chapter, not a stripped-down tutorial. It gives you a custom hero, all six weapon types, and a run of story missions that ends with a boss fight. How much time you spend depends almost entirely on how much you want to explore and experiment.

Quick answer: A standard playthrough of the demo runs about 2 to 3 hours. Rush the story, and you can finish in around 1.5 to 2 hours; chase every chest and level multiple weapons, and it stretches to 4 to 5 hours.

How long the demo takes by playstyle

The five main missions form the backbone of the run. Your total time comes down to whether you stick to objectives or treat the demo as a sandbox for testing combat.

PlaystyleAverage timeWhat you focus on
Story rush1.5 – 2 hoursMain objectives only, minimal exploring, one weapon
Standard play2 – 3 hoursAll 5 missions, light exploring, 2–3 weapons tested
Completionist4 – 5 hoursMax demo levels, all 6 weapons, every chest found

The five missions in the demo

The trial plays through the complete Beta Test phase of the Sword Art Online storyline. You learn movement and combat early, meet key characters, and finish with a mini-dungeon and a boss.

2 – The Solo ScoutShield guarding and dodgingKobold Scouts
3 – Gathering IntelMeet Argo the Rat, find hidden checkpointsRuin Spiders
4 – Partner SynergyTeam with Iori, use Switch and Free modesElite Goblins
5 – The Beta ClimaxClear a mini-dungeon, beat the demo bossIllfang Sentinel

You also get the character creator at the end of the beta section, so you can set your hero’s hair, skin tone, and body type. The partner system is live too, letting companions add Support Skills and Combination Skills in battle.

Tip: During the Mission 5 boss, use Switch Mode to make your partner pull the boss’s attention. That opens a safe window to heal or charge a heavy attack.

All six weapon classes you can test

Weapons act as your class here, so swapping one changes your skills, mobility, and defensive options entirely. Every class is unlocked in the trial, which makes it a good place to settle on a playstyle before you commit.

WeaponStrengthNotes
Sword and ShieldBalanced defense and offenseBest for learning parry timing
RapierFast multi-hit thrustsCan still equip a shield
MaceBreaks enemy guardsStrong crowd control
DaggerExtreme attack speedNo shield, needs precise dodges
Two-Handed SwordHigh-damage charged hitsUses a heavy roll instead of quick steps
Two-Handed AxeWide sweeping strikesSlow recovery, timing matters

When you level up at the Inn, spend Growth Points on the stats that scale your chosen weapon. Strength suits heavy weapons, while Dexterity and Agility favor the Rapier and Dagger.

How to carry your demo save into the full game

Progress from the trial transfers to the full retail version, so you can skip the intro tutorials and move straight into later floors. The transfer only works within the same platform family, meaning a PS5 demo save moves to the PS5 full game and nothing crosses to another system.

Keep the demo installed. Do not delete the local demo save files, because the full game needs them to detect your progress.
Launch the full version and install the latest day-one network patch before continuing.
At the main menu, a pop-up detects your local demo save. Select “Carry over” to start the transfer.
Press and hold the Confirm button on the transfer screen, then choose “Game Start” and load your transferred slot.

You know it worked when the game loads your transferred character with its levels, weapons, and Col intact instead of dropping you into the tutorial. Note: the confirmation prompt appears the first time you launch the full game. If you pick “Do not carry over” and confirm, it stops appearing, and the only way to reset it is to delete the full game’s save and relaunch. Be careful not to delete the demo save in the process. Full transfer instructions are posted on the official Bandai Namco site.

One limit worth knowing: a save carried over from the demo cannot be switched into Death Game Mode. That high-stakes mode is not playable in the trial at all, and it requires a fresh save file in the full game.

Where to download the demo

The trial is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam. On PS5 you can grab the Echoes of Aincrad DEMO Version directly from the store listing.

Get the most out of your demo save

If you plan to carry your save forward, a longer demo run pays off. Working through these goals leaves your character in a stronger spot for the later floors.

  • Finish all 5 playable beta story missions
  • Unlock and test all 3 equipable Sword Skills for your main weapon
  • Open all 8 hidden treasure chests in the field maps
  • Activate every map checkpoint to reveal exploration routes
  • Gather at least 10,000 Col for starting items at the Smithy
  • Spend all accumulated Growth Points at the Inn

Whether you clear it in a couple of hours or push past four, the demo gives a clear read on how combat, partners, and progression feel, and none of that effort is lost when you move to the full release.
