The Shady Farmer is a new questgiver in Build A Ring Farm, and he plays by different rules than every other NPC on your farm. He hands out tasks without listing them upfront, and he does not drop a visible reward the moment you finish one. If you want to work through his chain, you first have to know where he stands and how to keep your own record of progress.
Quick answer: Head to the Egg Shop and interact with the NPC named Overgrown Farmer. Click the Farm button at the top of the screen to jump straight there, then talk to him to pick up a quest.
Where to Find the Shady Farmer
The Shady Farmer stands right next to the Egg Shop. You can walk over to him on foot, or use the Farm option at the top of the screen to teleport directly to the area. Look for the NPC labeled Overgrown Farmer and interact with him to open his quests.
How the Shady Farmer quests work
Most questgivers in the game show you a task list and pay out the moment you complete an objective. The Shady Farmer does neither. His quests stay hidden, and finishing one does not trigger any immediate payout on screen.
Because his quest log does not display completion status, you need to track your own progress manually. Note the objective he gives you, work toward it, and confirm the number yourself. There is no on-screen checkmark to rely on.
The chain also appears to build toward one larger reward at the end rather than smaller prizes along the way. Four of his quests have been completed without any direct reward appearing, which points to a single payoff waiting at the finish of the line. What that final reward is has not been confirmed yet.
Shady Farmer quest objectives
Quests seem to be assigned dynamically, so your order may not match the sequence below. Do not worry if the tasks arrive in a different arrangement for you. Just complete whatever he gives you and move on to the next one.

How to know you completed a quest
Since the Shady Farmer does not confirm progress, verification is on you. For a submission target like “plants worth 1 Billion,” watch your own sell totals and keep going until you clear the number. For “fill the Composter on Floor 3 and pull the lever,” the action is done once the composter is full and you pull the lever. For “attend 10 events,” count each event you join.
Note: because no reward pops up after each step, a completed quest simply advances you to the next one in his chain. Do not expect a chat confirmation or an item drop until the questline reaches its end.
The Shady Farmer’s full questline and its final reward are still being worked out as more of his tasks are cleared. For now, the reliable path is to find the Overgrown Farmer at the Egg Shop, take each hidden objective he offers, and track your own progress until the chain wraps up.
