Capturing a screenshot on your Acer Chromebook is straightforward, whether you’re looking to save an error message, share something interesting, or document your work. Acer Chromebooks offer built-in tools and easy keyboard shortcuts to quickly grab screenshots. Here are the most effective methods:

Method 1: Using Keyboard Shortcuts

To instantly capture your entire screen, press Ctrl + Show Windows. The Show Windows key is located on the top row of your keyboard and looks like a rectangle with two vertical lines on the right side. If you’re using an external keyboard without this key, press Ctrl + F5 instead. Your screenshot will automatically save to your Downloads folder.
To capture only a portion of your screen, press Ctrl + Shift + Show Windows. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair. Click and drag your cursor around the area you wish to capture, then release to save the screenshot automatically.
If you want to capture a specific window, press Ctrl + Alt + Show Windows. Then click on the window you want to screenshot. This captures only the selected window and saves it instantly.

Method 2: Using the Screen Capture Tool

Acer Chromebooks include a built-in Screen Capture tool accessible through the Quick Settings menu, giving you additional options for screenshots and screen recordings.

Click the clock area at the bottom-right corner of your screen to open the Quick Settings menu. Next, click on the “Screen Capture” icon, represented by a square with a circle inside.
A toolbar will appear at the bottom of your screen. Here, you can choose between capturing the entire screen, a partial selection, or a single window. Simply click the appropriate icon to select your capture mode.
After selecting your preferred mode, click anywhere on the screen (for full-screen captures), drag to select an area (for partial captures), or click a window (for window captures). The screenshot will then be automatically saved to your Downloads folder.
The Screen Capture tool also lets you record your screen as a video. To do this, select the video camera icon on the toolbar, choose your recording area (full, partial, or window), and click to begin recording. Stop recording by clicking the red stop icon in your Chromebook’s shelf.

Finding and Managing Your Screenshots

After capturing a screenshot or screen recording, your Acer Chromebook saves these files in the Downloads folder by default. To access your screenshots, open the Files app from your app launcher and navigate to the Downloads folder. From there, you can view, edit, or share your screenshots easily.

If you prefer to save screenshots in a different folder, open the Screen Capture tool, click the gear icon (settings), and choose “Select Folder” to set a new default location.
