Flickering Stars is Rin Tohsaka’s signature Erudition light cone in Honkai Star Rail 4.4, sold through its own warp banner during the second Fate collaboration. It pushes her crit and Skill damage hard, and it hands the whole team a defense-ignore buff. The question for most players is whether that payoff justifies the Stellar Jade, since it only reaches full value on Erudition units.
Quick answer: You can skip Flickering Stars. Rin keeps nearly all of her damage on cheaper alternatives, so it is smarter to save those pulls for her Eidolons or another banner.

What Flickering Stars does at Superimposition 1
At Superimposition 1, Flickering Stars raises the wearer’s CRIT Rate and rewards heavy Skill Point spending with a team-wide defense penetration effect. It reads as follows.
- Increases the wearer’s CRIT Rate by 18%. When any ally consumes a total of 4 or more Skill Points in a single turn, the wearer gains Radiant Crown for 3 turns. While the wearer holds Radiant Crown, all allies’ DMG ignores 20% of the target’s DEF, and the wearer’s Skill DMG increases by 72%. Effects of the same type cannot stack.
The trigger lines up cleanly with Rin’s kit. Her whole loop revolves around cycling Skill Points to build Gem Energy, so hitting the 4-SP threshold in a turn is routine in a working team. The 18% CRIT Rate and 72% Skill damage feed her main damage source directly, and the 20% DEF ignore for all allies stacks with her Elegant Conduct trace against high-defense enemies.

Rin does not need her own light cone to perform well. Several Erudition cones deliver most of her damage, so the practical difference between the signature and a strong substitute is small enough that the Stellar Jade is better spent elsewhere.
The Herta’s signature cone is the closest match, landing around 85% of Flickering Stars’ effectiveness. Anaxa’s cone works on a similar principle and posts the highest damage among the alternatives. For a fully free-to-play option, Eternal Calculus holds roughly 70% effectiveness and asks for nothing beyond crafting materials.
| Light cone | Type | Fit for Rin |
|---|---|---|
| Flickering Stars | 5★ signature | Best in slot: 18% CRIT Rate, 72% Skill DMG, 20% team DEF ignore |
| The Herta’s signature | 5★ | Strongest substitute, about 85% of the signature’s value |
| Anaxa’s signature | 5★ | Works like her own cone, top damage among alternatives |
| Eternal Calculus | 4★ (craftable) | Best free option, around 70% effectiveness |
Any Erudition cone that grants SPD, DEF reduction, Energy Regeneration, or Skill and Ultimate damage will serve Rin well. Because those bases are covered, the extra pulls are more valuable put toward her Eidolons, where her personal damage amplifiers actually live.
Where to get Flickering Stars and the pull cost
Flickering Stars appears on the Kaleidic Coruscation warp event, the light cone banner tied to the second Fate collaboration. You pull it with Stellar Jade or Star Rail Special Passes, the same as any other gacha cone.
Plan for at least 60 pulls to secure it. That amount is enough to land a 5-star on the character banner with some luck, and the hard pity for a 5-star sits at 80 pulls. Weigh that against a guaranteed cone that only reaches full value on Erudition units, and the case for saving becomes clear for most rosters.
If you are already going deep on Rin’s Eidolons and want the last bit of ceiling on a dedicated Erudition build, Flickering Stars is the top choice. For everyone else, a strong substitute keeps her competitive while leaving your Stellar Jade free for characters or copies that move her power up more.
