Villain Chests are the reward drop tied to the Villain Hunt loot event in Anime Expeditions. Each chest holds one randomized prize, ranging from Villain Coins and reroll materials to a rare cosmetic. They come from defeating villain bosses that spawn inside non-competitive stages, not from the separate Villain Invasion mode.
Quick answer: Play Story, Infinite, Challenge, or Mastery, wait for a random villain boss to appear, and defeat it to earn 5 Villain Chests. Reach daily boss-kill milestones for extra chests, then open them from the Events page or your Items bag.
Where Villain Chests come from
Villain Chests only drop during the Villain Hunt event, which runs until Update 1. You earn them by fighting villains that appear across the non-competitive modes. Any of these four stage types works, so pick the one you clear fastest.
- Story
- Infinite
- Challenge
- Mastery
Because clear speed matters more than difficulty here, repeating easier Story acts or grinding Infinite is the most efficient way to rack up boss kills.

Villain bosses spawn at random intervals while you play. When one appears, an on-screen alert reads, “[Villain Name] (Boss) Appeared! A random villain has invaded the stage! Defeat them to obtain Villain Chests!” The boss identity and timing are both randomized, and more than one can invade the same stage.
Kill the villain boss and you receive 5 Villain Chests immediately. Infinite mode is the strongest grinding target because it keeps generating waves and spawn opportunities without forcing you to restart a stage.
Daily milestone rewards
Beyond the chests each boss drops, the Villain Hunt tracker hands out bonus chests and Event Coins as you hit boss-kill milestones. You can defeat up to 15 villain bosses per day to clear the daily milestones, and the chest payout scales up each day.
| Milestone day | Villain Chests |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | 5 |
| Day 2 | 10 |
| Day 3 | 15 |
| Day 4 | 20 |
| Day 5 | 25 |
| Day 6 | 30 |
| Day 7 | 35 |
| Day 8 | 40 |
| Day 9 | 45 |
| Day 10 | 50 |

How to open Villain Chests
Earning a chest does not automatically grant its contents. You have to open it, and there are two places to do that. Each opened chest gives exactly one reward.

Every Villain Chest reward
Opening a chest returns a single item pulled from the pool below. Villain Coins are the headline drop, since you spend them on villain unit summons, evolution items, and unit equipment. The Crow (Rider) skin is a rare drop with only a chance to appear.
| Reward | Quantity | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Villain Coins | 250x | Villain unit summons, evo items, unit equipment |
| Trait Crystal | 2x | Reroll a unit’s trait |
| Stat Reroll | 2x | Reroll a unit’s stats |
| Stat Lock | 2x | Lock a stat before rerolling others |
| Equipment Reroll | 2x | Reroll equipment substats |
| Equipment Lock | 2x | Lock an equipment stat during rerolls |
| Crow (Rider) Skin | 1x | Rare cosmetic (chance-based) |
You know a run worked when the villain alert clears and 5 chests land in your Items bag, and when the daily milestone tracker on the Villain Hunt page ticks up after each boss. If chests are not appearing, check that you are in a non-competitive mode and not the Villain Invasion event, since that mode does not spawn these bosses. Stock up while the event is live, as Villain Hunt closes with Update 1 and the chests disappear with it.
