How to Play Captain America in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls (Combos and Abilities)

Every Captain America move, the meter costs for his Super and Ultimate, and the combos that carry newcomers.

Every Captain America move, the meter costs for his Super and Ultimate, and the combos that carry newcomers.

Captain America builds almost his entire game around the Vibranium shield, using it for close-range bashes, mid-range pokes, and long-range throws that bounce around the screen. He is one of the more approachable fighters on the launch roster, rewarding simple button chains and steady pressure rather than tight execution. Steve Rogers also anchors the Avengers as team leader inside Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.

Quick answer: Chain the same attack button three times for a fast combo (L>L>L, M>M>M, or H>H>H). End a medium chain into the Super Skill Living Legend (50 meter) or a heavy chain into the Ultimate Skill Sentinel of Liberty (100 meter), and use Trick Shield to redirect a thrown shield mid-flight.

Captain America’s full moveset

His kit splits into shield throws, melee lunges, defensive tools, and two meter-based finishers. The shield mechanics are the standout, since a thrown shield can ricochet vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, and you can strike it again as it returns to send it back at the opponent.

MoveWhat it does
Ricochet VolleyThrows the shield so it strikes the opponent multiple times.
Trick ShieldRedirects the shield mid-throw for unpredictable angles.
Shield GuardBlocks and protects against incoming damage.
Shield StrikeA direct shield throw at the opponent, strong for stopping air attacks.
Soaring JusticeAn in-hand shield attack that also shuts down aerial approaches.
Freedom ChargeA forward lunge that hits with the shield; the style shifts by direction.
Shield ShockA ground move for catching crouching opponents.
Living LegendSuper Skill (50 meter).
Sentinel of LibertyUltimate Skill (100 meter).
Tōkon AssembleTeam comeback call for the Fighting Avengers.

Best Captain America combos

The most reliable damage comes from repeating a single attack button. Each string flows automatically, so you do not need motion inputs to get a full combo out.

Tap light three times (L>L>L) for a quick shield-bash chain. You can also jump and add a light attack to start pressure from the air.
Repeat medium (M>M>M) or heavy (H>H>H) for higher damage. These slower strings hit harder and give you time to confirm a finisher.
Cancel a medium chain into the Super Skill, or a heavy chain into the Ultimate Skill, when you have the meter for it. That is where the real damage lands.

Tip: Shield Strike and Ricochet Volley set up combos that chain into Soaring Justice, and Trick Shield lets you keep a returning shield in play to extend pressure.

Tōkon Assemble and assists

Tōkon Assemble is a comeback mechanic that triggers when losing the current round would end the match. It calls in the Fighting Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Black Panther, for a four-on-one attack that closes with a large Soaring Justice.

Cap also fits into the game’s assist system with Vertical, Shooter, and Assault options. The Assault assist has him take a hit before countering non-low attacks, and he can also strike after a set delay. Because you can actively swap during an assist, the shield play becomes a strong way to keep opponents guessing.

How to play Captain America

Play him as a mid-range fighter who leans on the shield to control space, poking from a comfortable distance and closing in with Freedom Charge or Soaring Justice when the opponent commits. His neutral game and simple inputs make him a solid pick for beginners, and he puts out steady, consistent damage across a match rather than relying on flashy setups.

The trade-off is variety. His toolkit is straightforward, so if you want a more elaborate style, another character on the roster may suit you better. But for a reliable anchor who is easy to learn and hard to shake, Cap does the job.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls launches August 6, 2026 on PS5 and PC, with more Character Guides rolling out for the rest of the roster ahead of release.
