Roblox Survival Resources: How to Get Wood, Stone, Iron, and Gold

Where to gather each core material, how much every node drops, and what to smelt them into for building and coins.

Building anything worthwhile in a Roblox survival game starts with four staples: Wood, Stone, Iron, and Gold. Each one comes from a specific action in the world, drops a fixed amount when you fully harvest it, and feeds into either construction or the smelting chain that turns ore into ingots and coins.

Quick answer: Chop trees for Wood (Logs), break stone nodes for Stone (Rocks), and mine iron and gold nodes for their ore. A node only drops its material when you fully break it, and ore must be smelted into ingots at a Blacksmith’s Shop before it is useful.

How to get each core resource

Every player spawns with a Small Rock, which is enough to start gathering. Trees are worked with an axe and mineral nodes are worked with a pickaxe, but the basic Small Rock doubles as both at the start. Upgrading to Stone or Bronze tools speeds up harvesting later.

Wood (Log)Cut down a treeSmall Rock, Stone Axe, Bronze Axe1 Log, plus 3 Sticks and 1–2 Saplings
Stone (Rock)Break a stone, copper, tin, or gold nodeSmall Rock, Stone Pickaxe, Bronze Pickaxe1 Rock

Wood: trees, sticks, and saplings

Wood is the most reliable early material. Chopping a single tree gives you 1 Log, 3 Sticks, and 1 to 2 Saplings all at once, so you never waste a swing. Logs are your main building block and also act as fuel inside Blacksmith’s Shops, while Sticks feed into tool, weapon, and armor recipes.

Cactus works the same way but returns less. Each cactus you cut down drops 1 Stick and 1 to 2 Cactus Seedlings. Saplings can be replanted on grassland or savanna ground, and Cactus Seedlings can be planted on desert ground, so you can farm a steady wood supply instead of clearing the map.

Stone: rocks and small rocks

Stone comes in two forms that many players confuse. A Rock is the large building block, and a Small Rock is the crafting material used for stone tools and weapons. Both come from mineral nodes.

  • Breaking a stone, copper, tin, or gold node drops 1 Rock.
  • Mining a stone node drops 2 Small Rocks.
  • Mining a copper, tin, or gold node drops 1 Small Rock.

Because every ore-bearing node also gives Rocks, mining for metal doubles as a stone run. Stockpile Rocks early, since they are a hard requirement for upgrading your Town Hall.

Iron: the rarest of the four

Iron is heavy, powerful, and the hardest of these materials to find. Iron nodes only appear in a handful of caves across the map, and many are tucked behind a boulder you must mine through first or guarded by wildlife, so bring a decent pickaxe before committing.

Each iron node drops 3 or 6 Iron Ore depending on your mining level, and nodes regenerate after a short delay. Smelt the ore into Iron Ingots, which traders will sometimes buy for 18 coins each. Iron is also the gateway to Steel, so keep a large reserve if you plan to craft the strongest gear.

Gold: your coin supply

Gold exists almost entirely to make money. Each gold node drops 1 Gold Ore when mined, and that ore is smelted into a Gold Ingot. Run a Gold Ingot through a Coin Press, and it presses into 6 coins, which is the fastest legitimate way to build up currency.

Gold nodes, like copper and tin nodes, also drop a Rock and a Small Rock, so mining them contributes to your building stockpile at the same time.

Smelting ore into ingots

Raw ore does nothing on its own. Copper, Tin, Gold, and Iron each need to be smelted, forged, and cooled at a Blacksmith’s Shop, and every ingot costs 2 Logs and 20 water in addition to the ore. That fuel cost is the main reason to keep chopping trees even after your building is done.

IngotOre neededExtra costWhat it does
Copper Ingot1 Copper Ore2 Logs + 20 waterCrafts Copper Sickles and Bronze Ingots
Tin Ingot1 Tin Ore2 Logs + 20 waterCombined with Copper to make Bronze Ingots
Gold Ingot1 Gold Ore2 Logs + 20 waterPressed into 6 coins at a Coin Press
Iron Ingot1 Iron Ore2 Logs + 20 waterSold to traders for 18 coins; used for advanced gear

A Bronze Ingot is a step up, crafted by a Blacksmith at a Tier 3 Crafting Table from 1 Copper Ingot and 1 Tin Ingot. Bronze then feeds shields, armor, swords, and tools.

What these resources unlock

The clearest use for raw Wood and Stone is upgrading your Town Hall, which gates most of your progression. Copper, Tin, and Marble also join the requirements at the higher tier, so a full mining run pays off directly.

UpgradeResources required
Town Hall Tier 210 Logs, 5 Rocks
Town Hall Tier 315 Logs, 10 Rocks, 1 Copper Ore, 1 Tin Ore, 5 Marble

You will know a gather worked the moment the node fully breaks and the material lands in your inventory, and a smelt is complete once the finished ingot appears at the Blacksmith’s Shop. If a node gives you nothing, the usual cause is that another player also damaged it, since the total drop is split by damage dealt. Keep Wood flowing for fuel, mine Stone alongside every metal, save Iron for Steel, and route Gold straight to the Coin Press to keep your economy moving.
