Cookie Run: Crumble is a deck-building idle survivor from Devsisters. You drop a team of Cookies into an arena, they auto-attack the waves and fire skills on their own, and your real job is deciding who to build and where to move them. Progress stalls for new players in two places: boss time limits and thinly spread upgrades. Both are fixable once you know which systems to feed first.
Quick answer: Pour your best materials into two or three Cookies (one frontline plus one or two damage dealers), push attack power ahead of everything else so bosses die before the timer runs out, and grind Crumble Dungeon for the EXP, Coins, and dough you can’t get from idle play alone.

Build a balanced team across the three classes
Every Cookie belongs to one of three classes, and a working team needs all three. Your squad can hold up to twelve Cookies on survivor maps, but early on quality beats quantity. Stack only Defenders and your damage stalls; stack only Shooters and the swarm overruns you.
| Class | Role | Launch example |
|---|---|---|
| Vanguard | Front-line damage that clears waves fast | Dark Cherry |
| Defender | Soaks hits and keeps enemies off your backline | Berry Yogurt |
| Shooter | Ranged damage from the safer rear | Grapevine |
GingerCraven and OvenBreaker are among the alternate options in the launch roster. For most players the safest shape is two or three frontline Cookies with the rest filled by damage and utility. Don’t chase rare Cookies before you understand their role. A well-supported common Cookie often beats a rare one you can’t yet build around.
Note: The auto lineup button gives you the strongest team by current power, not by potential. A high-rarity Cookie that could carry you later gets left out until it’s leveled, so keep feeding EXP to your rarest picks and to any pair with strong synergy.

The most common early mistake is spreading Gold and materials across the whole roster. A single Cookie at level 20 with invested gear outperforms five Cookies at level 10 with scattered upgrades. Pick a core and commit to it.
| Priority | Where the resources go |
|---|---|
| 1 | Main damage dealer — highest level and best gear |
| 2 | Frontline Defender or Vanguard — enough health to survive waves |
| 3 | Support or secondary damage — fill gaps once the core two are solid |
| 4 | Pets — only after your Cookie foundation is set |
Claim idle rewards often in your first days. The offline storage cap is high, but collecting regularly lets you reinvest Gold and EXP sooner and keep momentum. Once your core is stable, you can settle into longer offline stretches.

Beat the boss timer with attack power and movement
The wall most players hit is the boss battle time limit. Some bosses move around and others are simply too tanky to grind down before the clock runs out. When you’re balancing stats, put attack power first. Killing the boss faster solves the timer problem more reliably than any defensive upgrade.
Movement matters even though the combat is idle. You still steer the team, so keep your Shooters clear of enemy clusters and let Vanguards and Defenders take the pressure up front. When you’re struggling to land hits, crowding your Cookies close to the boss stacks damage, which works well if you have enough healing to eat the return fire. Watch boss attack patterns and reposition before a big hit lands. A clean dodge saves more health than an early upgrade.

Keep the upgrade systems feeding your roster
Several background systems quietly boost your whole team, and it’s easy to forget them once the tutorial is over.
- Oven: Bakes new gear. Push it to the level two or three upgrade to unlock auto-baking, which sorts and equips new gear when your inventory is full and sells off gear you no longer need.
- Resolve: Raises your Cookies’ base stats directly.
- Mercenary Guild: Found behind the clover button in the top-right corner. Its perks grant steady boosts to attack, defence, and maximum HP.
- Collections: Grants bonuses based on the Cookies you’ve pulled from the gacha. The plus-ones are small but frequent, so claim them whenever they’re ready.
The Mercenary Guild also lets you borrow a Cookie from another player. Use that to plug a roster gap for a tough stage without spending your own materials on a Cookie you won’t keep.

Farm resources in Crumble Dungeon
When you run short on EXP, Coins, and dough for upgrades, the Dungeon tab is the fastest source. These are shorter stages with tighter time limits that reward a specific resource for each clear. You get a set number of free keys each day and can keep running them by watching ads. That trade-off gives you materials that are slow to earn through passive play.
Don’t sit and farm the early campaign stages for long. If you hit a wall, upgrade your current team and push forward again instead of grinding easy waves. Each stage you clear unlocks better idle rewards, so advancing keeps your resource income climbing.

Protect your progress before you go far
Playing as a guest risks losing everything if you uninstall or change devices. Link to a Google or Apple account through the settings menu right away. It takes about thirty seconds and saves hours of lost progress later.
These are the errors that slow new players down the most:
- Summoning repeatedly and burning currency before you understand the roster
- Farming easy stages instead of pushing the campaign
- Upgrading every Cookie equally rather than a core two or three
- Standing still in combat and taking avoidable damage
- Forgetting to claim and reinvest idle rewards
- Staying a guest without linking an account
Cookie Run: Crumble is free on iOS and Android with optional in-app purchases.
What to tackle after your first day
Once a stable team is clearing stages consistently, branch into the extra modes. Each one scales in difficulty and punishes an underleveled squad, so keep your main campaign progress ahead of them.
| Mode | What it’s for |
|---|---|
| Survivor idle maps | The main horde-survivor stages and your steady progression |
| Crumble Dungeon | Targeted farming for team-building materials |
| Plaque Tower | A climb that tests vertical progression |
| Arena (PvP) | Competitive team battles and ranking |
Pets come into play as you unlock them. They add passive bonuses and chemistry triggers that suit specific Cookies, and pairing the right Pet with a Vanguard or Shooter can speed up idle gains. Treat them as a second layer, though. Your Cookie levels and gear always come first, and clearing further into the campaign is what makes every other mode easier.
