What Is the Lancehead Clip in Fortnite and How to Throw It

The Lancehead Clip is the magazine your character throws while reloading the Lancehead Pistol when an enemy is close by. It is not a separate item you pick up. It is a built-in reload mechanic on the pistol that turns a spent magazine into a short-range projectile, and Fortnite’s John Wick (The Simpsons) Combat Contract asks you to land it on opponents.

Quick answer: Equip the Mythic 9mm Baba Yaga (or any Lancehead Pistol), fire at least one shot, then stand within about 2–5 meters of an enemy, look directly at them, and press reload. Your character throws the clip automatically. Do this twice to finish the quest.

How the Lancehead Clip throw works

The Lancehead Pistol is a semi-automatic pistol that uses Light Bullets and holds a 21-round magazine. When you reload near an opponent, the weapon skips the normal reload animation and hurls the magazine at them for extra damage. The thrown clip deals 45 mag throw damage, separate from the pistol’s bullet damage.

You do not need an empty magazine for this to happen. The pistol uses tactical reloads, so a reload with rounds still loaded triggers a shorter animation, and the clip throw fires as long as an enemy is inside close range and in your line of sight. The one trade-off is that you cannot cancel the animation to swap weapons once the throw starts.

Note: The elimination feed treats this as its own damage source. A finished-off enemy shows “eliminated with a thrown magazine!” rather than a normal pistol elimination.

Get the 9mm Baba Yaga (Mythic Lancehead Pistol)

Any Lancehead Pistol can throw its clip, but the Mythic 9mm Baba Yaga is the most reliable choice for the quest because of its faster reloads and higher damage. It drops from John Wick’s guarded dog cage.

Load into a match and head to Sinister Strip or The Battlewoods. As you approach either location, you should hear distant barking from John Wick’s dog.
Eliminate the Security Guards watching the cage. They defend the area, so clear them before you interact with anything.
Press to unlock the dog cage. The dog is released and the Mythic 9mm Baba Yaga drops in.
Collect and equip the pistol, then fire at least one shot so you have a partial magazine ready to throw.

Complete “Hit opponents with the Lancehead clip after reloading”

This is Stage 1 of the John Wick Combat Contract, and you need to land the throw on opponents twice (0/2). Each successful hit counts, so you do not have to eliminate the enemy with the clip, just connect with it.

Find a real player and close the distance. Get within roughly 2–5 meters, which is the range where the pistol swaps to the clip-throw reload.
Aim your view directly at the opponent. The game only throws the clip if you are looking at an enemy when you reload.
Press reload. Your character throws the magazine at the enemy, and the quest tracker updates to 1/2.
Repeat the throw on an opponent one more time. When the second hit lands, the tracker reads “Quest Completed!” and one of the four contracts is checked off.

Why the clip throw fails to register

If a reload plays the normal animation instead of the throw, one of these conditions is usually the cause.

ProblemFix
Wrong weapon equippedUse a Lancehead Pistol; the 9mm Baba Yaga is easiest
Too far from the enemyMove to within about 2–5 meters before reloading
Not looking at the enemyCenter your aim on the opponent as you press reload
Waiting to empty the magazine firstNot required; reload with rounds still loaded and it still throws

Once you understand that the Lancehead Clip is simply the pistol’s thrown magazine, the quest becomes a matter of range and aim. Rush an opponent, keep them centered on screen, and reload at close quarters to knock out both throws in a single fight.
