Fishing in Palworld 1.0 rewards you with new Pals and stacks of crafting materials, and the right party members change how fast and how profitable each cast is. The Pals that matter here all rely on their Partner Skills, which fall into three clear jobs: making the minigame easier, raising the odds of talented catches, and boosting the items you pull out of the water.
Quick answer: Bring Gloopie, Whalaska, or Whalaska Ignis to win the minigame; Solmora or Solmora Lux to catch high-potential Pals; and Jelliette or Jellroy to multiply your loot. Identical Partner Skill effects do not stack, so mix different roles instead of doubling up.
Best fishing Pals by goal
Match the Pal to what you actually want from a fishing trip. Each group covers one purpose, and you can slot several different roles into one party since their bonuses come from separate Partner Skills.

Pals that make the fishing minigame easier
The capture gauge is the circle above the bar that fills the longer your bar stays touching the moving fish icon. Whalaska and Whalaska Ignis start that gauge higher and fill it faster whenever your bar overlaps the fish, while Gloopie slows how quickly the gauge drains when the bar slips off. Both Whalaska variants can also be ridden across water.

The head start from either Whalaska is easy to see the moment the minigame opens, but the base-rank bonus may not be enough when you are chasing high-level Pals. Rank the Pal up with the Pal Essence Condenser or Starfruits to push both the starting gauge and the overlap bonus higher.
Pals for catching talented Pals
Solmora and Solmora Lux raise the chance that a catch arrives with high Stat Potentials, the hidden values that boost a Pal’s Attack, Defense, and Health. You can read those Potentials by wearing Ability Glasses or Pal Tamer Glasses. Both Solmora variants double as water mounts, and Solmora Lux additionally switches your attack to Electric while mounted.

The exact numbers stay hidden, but Solmora Lux is clearly the stronger of the two. At an Advanced Fishing Spot, a party with Solmora Lux consistently produced Pals with at least one Potential Stat between 80 and 100. Solmora reached the 70 to 100 range, but not as reliably.
The fishing spot’s level matters too. Grand Master, Expert, and Advanced Fishing Spots hand out high-potential Pals far more consistently when a Solmora is in your party. Beginner and Intermediate spots trend toward weaker Potentials and do not reward talent as often.
Pals for farming more items
If materials are the point of the trip, Jelliette and Jellroy carry the load. Their Partner Skills increase what you collect, but they cover different sources, so bring the one that matches where you are pulling loot from. Jelliette only affects fishing at fishing spots, while Jellroy only affects salvaging at salvage spots.

Both Pals also speed up each other’s watering when they share a base, which makes them useful workers away from the water as well.
How to get the best fishing Pals
Every Pal with a fishing-related Partner Skill can itself be caught by fishing. Reel them in at fishing spots directly, or use a Fishing Pond and Large Fishing Pond at your base to farm them passively. Some also spawn in the overworld at the locations listed on their Palpedia entries.
A few are locked to late-game zones. Whalaska Ignis, Solmora, and Solmora Lux appear in the Sunreach area or the World Tree, so if you want them earlier the Large Fishing Pond is the most reliable route. Gloopie shows up along the northern and western coastlines of Feybreak Island, Jelliette along Feybreak’s northern shores, and Jellroy on Phantom Isle northwest of Mount Obsidian.
Rank up to maximize the Partner Skills
Nearly all of these Partner Skills scale with the Pal’s rank, so a maxed copy is meaningfully stronger than a fresh catch. Prioritize ranking Jelliette and Jellroy, since higher ranks raise every haul, and rank your Whalaska variants to keep the capture gauge competitive at high-level spots.

Breed for better passives
Passive Skills do little for the minigame itself, so they are optional if a Pal only ever fishes. But if you want a fishing Pal to pull double duty on your active team, breed better passives onto it. As long as you have a parent pair carrying the passives you want, you can pass them down to the offspring.
Build your party around the outcome you want and you will feel the difference on the very first cast. Stack a control Pal like Gloopie or a Whalaska, add Solmora Lux when talent matters, and swap in Jelliette or Jellroy depending on whether you are fishing or salvaging.
