Recipes widen the menu of meals Kagura can prepare for Emma and Koo in Beast of Reincarnation. A cooked meal fills both companions’ Hunger meters so they can recover health, and eating a dish for the first time grants stat boosts on top of that. Collecting Recipes is how you turn a short list of basic meals into a full kitchen.
Quick answer: Recipes are bought from Merchants or picked up while exploring, usually inside strongboxes or abandoned buildings. In the Ogouchi Buffer Zone, two are found by hand: Boiled Beans in the Lookout Shack to the north, and Fried Egg in the yellow key cave north of Tailwater Village.
What Recipes do for Emma and Koo
Each Recipe unlocks a new dish for Kagura to cook. Every meal restores Hunger for Emma and Koo, and a full Hunger meter lets them regenerate health over time. The first serving of any dish also delivers a stat boost, so working through new Recipes early pays off more than repeating meals you already know.
Note: Recipes are one of three book types in the game. Manuals unlock crafting for Equipment, Recipes feed Kagura’s cooking, and Ancient Books have no fixed use and exist only to be sold for Amber.

Add to Google Preferences →Where Recipes come from
There are two reliable ways to add Recipes to Kagura’s list. You can buy them from Merchants, or you can find them out in the world. Field pickups tend to sit inside strongboxes or tucked away in abandoned buildings, so clearing settlements and side rooms is the fastest way to build the collection.
- Purchase from Merchants as you meet them across each region.
- Open strongboxes while exploring a zone.
- Search abandoned buildings and guarded houses for loose books.
Zones that hold Recipes
Beast of Reincarnation is split into several medium-sized regions rather than one continuous map, and Recipes are scattered across them as you progress the story. These are the zones where Recipes can turn up.
| Zone |
|---|
| Ogouchi Buffer Zone |
| Ancient Civilization Zone |
| The Great Wall Terraces |
| Pilgrim’s Zone |
| Fuji Frontier Zone |
| Crater Zone |
| Inukami River Zone |
Ogouchi Buffer Zone Recipe locations
The Ogouchi Buffer Zone is the earliest region, and it holds two Recipes you can pick up directly. Both are ordinary meals, so grab them as you pass through rather than making a special trip.
| Recipe | Location |
|---|---|
| Boiled Beans | Inside the Lookout Shack in the north of the map |
| Fried Egg | In the yellow key cave north of Tailwater Village, in the same room as the story key |
Boiled Beans
Head to the far north of the Ogouchi Buffer Zone and enter the Lookout Shack. The Boiled Beans book is inside. It describes a simple, salty-sweet dish that is nutritious but noted as somewhat lacking.
Fried Egg
During the story, Emma has to find a yellow key inside a cave north of Tailwater Village. The Fried Egg Recipe sits in the same room as that key, so you pick it up naturally while chasing the objective. Like Boiled Beans, the dish is marked as somewhat lacking but useful early on.
How to confirm a Recipe was added
Once you read a Recipe book, the dish appears in Kagura’s cooking options. If a new meal shows up on her list, the Recipe registered. Eating that meal for the first time then applies its one-time stat boost, which is your cue that you are getting full value from the pickup rather than repeating a dish you have already tried.
Beyond these confirmed Ogouchi Buffer Zone finds, keep opening strongboxes and clearing buildings in each new region, and check every Merchant you meet. That routine is what steadily fills out Kagura’s kitchen as the story moves through the later zones.
