Quick answer: The Lakeside bell is at the top of the lift beside Yuzan’s arena. It stands among golden reeds by a lake, about 13 m from where the lift stops.

Where the Lakeside bell is

In Chapter 1 of Phantom Blade Zero, the Lakeside bell in the Village of Lu sits above ground, over Yuzan’s arena. This arena is the Puppet Testing Grounds, located in caves beneath the Heartless Remnants well. Take the lift at the arena’s edge to reach the open lakeside area above. Rock walls surround a lily pond and reeds of gold; the bell cross stands among the reeds a short walk from the lift’s upper exit.

How to reach the Lakeside bell

You don’t need to bring anything. The gate cutscene points you toward a missing puppet eye, but there is no eye to pick up. The way up is the lift.

Make your way to Yuzan’s arena in the Puppet Testing Grounds. Along the arena’s edge, look for a red pair of doors fitted with a horned puppet-mask knocker.

Press E while facing the door. Soul calls this passage the Smuggler’s Tunnel and identifies it as an entrance to Pangzhen. He sees that the puppet on the gate lacks an eye and figures that returning it could unlock the door. The view then shifts to a tall tower of timber scaffolding, with a stone pavilion at its base, beside the arena.

Walk to that stone pavilion, about 35 m from the gate. Step into the middle of it and stand still. The pavilion is a lift, and you don’t press any button to use it.

Let the lift cage rise up the tower on its own. The ride takes about 15 seconds. It ends at the surface, where golden reeds, a lake, and mountains sit under a sunset sky.

Walk about 13 m into the reeds to the Lakeside bell cross and press E to ring it. The bell menu opens with the heading “Lakeside”, which confirms you’re at the right bell.

What the Lakeside bell offers

The “Lakeside” menu has these options:

  • Upgrade Equipment
  • Store
  • Train Abilities
  • Save
  • Leave

This bell has no Traverse option, so it cannot be used for fast travel. Take the lift down to Yuzan’s arena instead. Rest at the Puppet Testing Grounds bell there, the crane statue in the middle of the arena, to find Traverse in its menu.

Resting at Lakeside sets your respawn point. If you die in the caves below afterward, you reappear at the Lakeside bell with full health.

Calling the lift back to the Lakeside bell

If you’re at the lake and the cage is below, head to the stone post topped with a lion-head ring beside the boardwalk at the lift’s upper end.
