Grow a Garden 2: What the Squirrel Pet Does and How to Get It

The Squirrel is one of the Fall creatures added to Grow a Garden 2 with the Fall Harvest update, and it exists to do one job: run around your plot and haul ripe fruit back to you. It takes the manual work out of collecting crops, grabbing produce no matter its size or rarity and dropping it straight into your inventory.

Quick answer: The Squirrel is a Legendary pet that has a 1% chance every second to dash to a nearby ripe fruit and collect it for you. You buy it for 1,200,000 Leaves when it spawns in the Fall Harvest World.

How the Squirrel’s harvesting ability works

Once equipped, the Squirrel scurries around your plot looking for ripe fruit. Each second it has a 1% chance to lock onto a nearby ripe crop, pick it up, and carry it back to your avatar. This works on giant-sized and mutated fruit as well, so nothing on the plot is off limits to it.

If it can’t find any ripe fruit for 20 seconds, the Squirrel stops hunting and returns to its normal wandering, entering a short cooldown before it starts scanning again. That means the pet only stays active while there is actually something ready to harvest.

The catch: it harvests at random

The Squirrel’s biggest weakness is that it grabs ripe fruit at random. It doesn’t care whether a crop is one you were saving. If you’re waiting on a specific plant to grow further or pick up mutations, the Squirrel may harvest it too early and cost you the payoff.

Because of that unpredictability, keep the Squirrel equipped only when you’re fine with anything ripe being pulled off the plot. If your goal is to farm mutations instead, move the Squirrel to your inventory and run a pet that supports mutation growth, such as the Golden Dragonfly or the Shadow Dragon.

How to get the Squirrel in the Fall Harvest World

The Squirrel isn’t hatched from an egg. You find and buy it in the Fall Harvest World, a separate area with its own currency and critters. Getting there and securing the pet takes a few steps.

Talk to the Explorer NPC standing in the middle of the main game map. This is what transports you to the Fall Harvest World.
Farm Leaves inside that world. Selling crops at the Sell Shop there pays out in Leaves instead of Sheckles, and Leaves are what all the Fall critters cost.
Watch the map for the Squirrel. It has just a 0.6% chance to spawn anywhere across the Fall Harvest map, so it appears rarely and at random.
When one shows up, walk over and interact with it quickly, then buy it for 1,200,000 Leaves before it disappears.

Big and Mega Squirrel variants

The Squirrel isn’t limited to its standard form. Big and Mega versions can also appear on the Fall Harvest map, and yes, a Mega Squirrel is obtainable the same way, by catching it when it spawns and paying with Leaves.

The Squirrel earns its place as a hands-off harvester for players who just want ripe crops cleared automatically. Keep it out when you’re chasing mutations, and bring it back when you’d rather let a pet do the picking.
