How to Restore the Mermaid’s Gym Habitat in Pokémon Pokopia

Gather a Marine Sofa and six decorative Poké Balls across Bubbly Basin to complete the habitat and spawn Starmie.

Gather a Marine Sofa and six decorative Poké Balls across Bubbly Basin to complete the habitat and spawn Starmie.

The Mermaid’s Gym is one of the trickier builds added with the Bubbly Basin expansion in Pokémon Pokopia, and it is the habitat that spawns Starmie. Restoring it means filling six pedestals with decorative Poké Balls and placing a Marine Sofa, all of which you collect from around the Bubbly Basin area.

Quick answer: Place a Marine Sofa plus six pedestals, then set the Decorative Dive Ball, Heal Ball, Net Ball, Quick Ball, Great Ball, and Lure Ball on the pedestals. Once all items are in position, the Mermaid’s Gym is restored, and Starmie will appear.

What the Mermaid’s Gym habitat needs

The build has two parts. You need the Marine Sofa as the centerpiece furniture, and you need six pedestals, each holding a specific decorative Poké Ball. Missing any single item will leave the habitat unfinished.

ItemQuantity
Marine Sofa1
Pedestal6
Decorative Dive Ball1
Decorative Heal Ball1
Decorative Net Ball1
Decorative Quick Ball1
Decorative Great Ball1
Decorative Lure Ball1

Note: If you are short on any furniture piece, the Pokémon Center’s 3D printer can recreate items for you, but you first need a picture of the item taken in a friend’s game or on a cloud island.

Get the Marine Sofa

There are two ways to obtain the Marine Sofa, and either one works.

Method 1: Learn the recipe from Mareanie

You can pick up the Marine Sofa recipe early by talking to Mareanie and completing its requests. Once you have the recipe, you can craft the sofa yourself whenever you need it.

Method 2: Take one from the Ocean Temple

After the Ocean Temple is built, you can grab a Marine Sofa directly inside it. Enter the temple and pick up the sofa from the upper platform.

Find the six decorative Poké Balls

All six decorative Poké Balls are hidden in secret rooms and dig spots scattered across the Bubbly Basin area. Two of them have clear, fixed locations worth knowing.

Decorative Dive Ball: From the town square, head toward Misty’s Gym. To the left of the gym entrance there is a blocked wall. Break it open to reach the room where the Dive Ball is kept.

Decorative Heal Ball: Look for the dig spot next to a house near the large red building. Digging there uncovers the Heal Ball.

The remaining four, the Net Ball, Quick Ball, Great Ball, and Lure Ball, are tucked away in similar secret rooms and dig sites around Bubbly Basin. Search behind breakable walls and check dig spots as you explore the area to complete the set.

Place everything to restore the habitat

Set down the Marine Sofa at the Mermaid’s Gym location. This is the main furniture piece the habitat is built around.
Position all six pedestals in the habitat area. Each pedestal is a stand for one of the decorative Poké Balls.
Place one decorative Poké Ball on each pedestal until all six, the Dive Ball, Heal Ball, Net Ball, Quick Ball, Great Ball, and Lure Ball, are displayed.

Once the Marine Sofa and all six filled pedestals are in place, the Mermaid’s Gym counts as restored. Starmie will then start visiting the habitat, confirming the build worked. If the habitat does not register as complete, check that every pedestal is holding a ball and that the sofa is placed, since a single missing piece will stop it from finishing.
