Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve carries 55 achievements on Steam and 56 trophies on PS5, the extra entry being the Platinum. Every one of them is tied to offline play. Ace Combat Online has its own separate progression and contributes nothing toward the list, so the whole set lives inside Campaign Mode, Free Mission, and training.

Quick answer: 31 story trophies pop automatically by clearing the Prologue and all 30 missions on any difficulty. The remaining entries come from combat totals, the Aircraft Tree, a 25,000,000 MRP grind, and an S rank on every mission at Ace difficulty.

Trophy breakdown and what counts

The PS5 trophy set contains 1 Platinum, 2 Gold, 5 Silver, and 48 Bronze. Of the 55 trophies, 33 are hidden; almost all unlock through the story, along with the gold Ace of Aces. Steam has 55 achievements with matching titles and descriptions, and 33 are hidden there as well.

  • No trophy is missable. Beaten missions can be replayed in Free Mission after the first campaign clear.
  • No trophy touches online play. Everything is earned offline.
  • The game only autosaves, so there are no manual save scum tricks for difficulty runs.

Story trophies (Prologue and 30 missions)

Each of these is a hidden bronze that unlocks the moment you finish the matching mission on any difficulty. Clearing Mission 30 also pops the silver Promised Land for completing the campaign. The mission names below double as late-story hints, so skip ahead if you want to stay unspoiled.

Combat, wingman, and menu unlocks

These come through normal play once you start handling wingmen, special weapons, and the game’s menus. Most require Campaign Mode specifically.

To earn Yes, Sir! and All Weapons Free, cycle through the D-pad wingman orders before your wingman gets a kill; permission to use special weapons is a separate command. Plane Coordinator becomes available after the campaign ends or in online play, so it is likely to unlock later.

Aircraft Tree and MRP unlocks

MRP is the currency you earn in Campaign Mode and spend on the Aircraft Tree. Every run adds to your lifetime total, so lower-difficulty clears still feed the currency trophies. High ranks pay out more, which is why the big totals come from replaying missions.

Buying out the whole Aircraft Tree for Patron of the Parts and reaching 25,000,000 MRP are the longest hauls on the list, so leave them for last and farm a high-paying mission on repeat.

The hardest challenge trophies

Ace of Aces and The Ace

Ace awards silver for finishing the campaign on Ace difficulty. The gold Ace of Aces requires an S rank on every mission at Ace difficulty, including those in Free Mission. Ace is a fifth difficulty tier beyond Rookie, Pilot, Veteran, and Elite, and remains hidden until you complete an entire Elite campaign. You can replay completed missions to improve their ranks, then earn the S ranks individually in Free Mission.

A Record of Rivalry

This gold requires every Assault Record, the game’s collection of named enemy aces. Named aces spawn on Veteran difficulty or higher, so play at that level or above, shoot the ace down, then finish the mission so the kill registers.

By the Book and Meritorious Service

By the Book is a bronze for finishing the campaign without skipping a single takeoff, landing, or aerial refueling. Fly every one of those segments rather than holding the skip button. Meritorious Service is a silver for earning 10 medals across the campaign.

How to confirm each unlock

Every achievement pops with the standard notification the instant its condition is met, and the campaign trophies fire as the mission results screen resolves. A few have hidden conditions that make them look stuck rather than broken.

  • Clears on Rookie, Pilot, or Veteran leave Ace unavailable. Complete one entire Elite run to unlock it in both the campaign and Free Mission.
  • By the Book won’t unlock if you miss a single takeoff, landing, or refueling. Replay the campaign on any difficulty and fly every one; the unlock triggers when you depart for the final mission.
  • An Assault Record kill registers only after you finish the mission. If you restart, quit, or fail after the kill, it will be erased.

Clear the campaign on Elite first to bank all 31 story trophies, hunt Assault Records on Veteran or higher, run Ace for the difficulty clears and S ranks, then grind MRP and buy out the Aircraft Tree to finish the set. Once the final trophy registers on PS5, the Platinum, Wings of Theve, pops on its own.
