Genus Insight is the part of the pet system in Aion 2 that turns your pet collection into permanent character stats. It sorts every pet into five genus types and lets you roll stat bonuses that apply whether or not a pet is summoned, making it one of the quieter but steadier ways to raise your power.

Quick answer: Collect pet souls to level pets, which feeds EXP into their genus. Then spend Soul Crystals and Kina to analyze that genus, rerolling its nine stat slots until you land the values you want.

The five genus types and what they share

Every pet belongs to one of five genus groups, and each group keeps its own separate Genus Insight level and stat rolls. The bonuses your Cogni pets grant are tracked apart from your Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special bonuses, so progress in one does nothing for the others.

  • Cogni — defensive and magic-oriented stats.
  • Fera — boosts offensive attributes and increases ground travel speed while mounted.
  • Natura — provides utility and defensive benefits, alongside modifiers to nature damage.
  • Varian — improves defensive attributes and lowers stamina use during a mount sprint.
  • Special — unique pets such as the Black Dragon, fed by a different currency.

Because each type levels on its own, put your Soul Crystals into the genus whose pets you actually use. If most of your collection is Cogni, raise Cogni Insight first and leave the rest until you have spare resources.

Some genus stats, like Cogni Accuracy, only take effect against enemies of that same genus. A Cogni accuracy roll helps you connect with Cogni enemies specifically, not everything you fight.

Where to find Genus Insight

Open your main menu, choose Pets, then switch to the Genus Insight tab at the top of the screen. From there you pick one of the five genus icons to see its level and its nine stat slots.

How Genus Insight levels up

Leveling a genus comes from collecting pets and gathering their souls. You unlock a pet with 5 souls, then it takes 25 more souls to reach pet level 2 and 75 souls to reach level 3, which is the current cap. Any EXP a pet earns also flows into its genus total.

Genus Insight EXP builds up from a handful of actions within that genus:

  • 500 EXP — obtain a new pet of that genus.
  • 250 EXP — bring a pet to level 2.
  • 250 EXP — bring a pet to level 3.
  • 100 EXP — analyze that genus.

Pet collection and Genus Insight are shared across every character on the same server. Insight keeps the highest level any of your characters reached, and pet levels pool together, so you never have to rebuild the system on an alt. Running dungeons on secondary characters feeds the same account total.

Farming souls and Soul Crystals

Killing a specific monster drops that monster’s souls. Collecting those souls levels the matching pet, and once a pet hits its cap, extra duplicate souls convert automatically into the matching Genus Soul Crystal. That means field mobs stay worth farming even after the pet is finished.

The fastest route to Soul Crystals specifically is the Odylium Repository, a daily dungeon that rewards pet chests and crystals. Daily dungeons unlock at level 30. Beyond that, the Black Cloud Merchant sells rotating souls and chests for Kina on its pet tab, and Duty bounty missions hand out specific Soul Crystals as rewards.

Daily Duty rewards are weighted by slot rather than being equal, with chances that step down across the reward positions. Place the Soul Crystal types you need in the earlier, higher-chance slots, and refresh the Duties when you are hunting a particular crystal.

Special pets break this pattern. Their crystals cannot be farmed from ordinary field mobs and instead come from Rainbow Soul Crystals tied to passes, collection milestones, special merchants, and events. Never spend Rainbow Soul Crystals on standard pets.

The nine slots and what they roll

Each genus has nine stat slots, and every slot draws from its own fixed pool of properties. You are never rolling against one giant list, so knowing which slot produces which kind of stat tells you where your important rolls will land.

SlotsRoleExample properties
1, 4, 7DefensiveDefense, PvE Defense, HP
2, 5, 8OffensiveAttack, Critical Attack, PvE Attack
3, 9Special offensiveDamage Boost, Smite, Weapon Damage Boost
6Special defensiveDamage Tolerance, Endurance, Regeneration

Inside each slot the game shows an acquirable properties table listing every possible property, its value range, and the chance of rolling it at the current rarity. Checking that table before you spend tells you exactly what the slot can produce.

Rarity chances by Genus Insight level

A genus’s level controls which rarities can appear on its rolls. Levels 1 to 3 only produce Common and Rare results. Epic enters at level 4, Unique at level 7, and Heroic at level 9. Higher the level, better the odds of the top tiers.

LevelCommon / RareEpicUnique / Heroic
270% / 30%——
355% / 45%——
450% / 45%5%—
545% / 45%10%—
640% / 40%20%—
735% / 34%30%1% / —
830% / 30%35%5% / —
925% / 25%39%10% / 1%
1020% / 30%30%15% / 5%

Rarity alone does not decide the result, because value range overlaps between tiers. An Attack Bonus roll might give 6 to 12 at Unique and 8 to 16 at Heroic, so a strong Unique can beat a weak Heroic. Read the number, not just the colour.

This is why the level 9 breakpoint matters. Hold off on locking slots until a genus reaches level 9, where the Heroic pool and the better value ranges open up. Locking early wastes crystals on rolls you will replace once the top tiers exist.

Best Genus Insight stats to aim for

These priorities hold up across classes, builds, and game modes. Attack Bonus, Boss Attack, Critical Hit, and Defense Bonus are strongest as their raw forms rather than the variant versions you sometimes roll.

1Double ChanceOnly on slots 3 and 9
2Attack BonusRaw stat
3Boss AttackRaw stat
4Critical HitRaw stat
5Accuracy BonusPenetrates boss defenses
6Defense BonusRaw stat

Double Chance is the payoff stat, because it can double the damage of any hit. It only appears on the two special offensive slots, 3 and 9, so those are the slots a damage dealer wants to perfect. Accuracy Bonus looks dull but lets your hits cut through a boss’s defenses, which keeps it high on the list.

Locking, Auto Analysis, and presets

When you roll a stat you like, you can lock it and reroll the rest. Every locked slot raises the Soul Crystal and Kina cost of the next roll. Rolling eight open slots runs around 40 Soul Crystals and 8,000 Kina, and once you lock several the cost climbs into hundreds of crystals and tens of thousands of Kina per attempt.

Auto Analysis rerolls for you until a slot lands on a rarity you set, from a chosen minimum up to the maximum your genus level allows. It spends your Soul Crystals and Kina on its own while it runs, so set the target carefully before you start it.

The board holds three independent presets. Level and EXP are shared across all three, but the active stat rolls can be set up separately, which lets you keep one layout for PvE and another for PvP.

Do not lock slots you do not care about just to clean up a roll. Each lock multiplies the price of the next pull, so focus locks on slots 3 and 9 first and leave the rest open until your character is established.

The Genus Genius achievement and Unbound by Genus title

Reaching level 10 across all five genus types earns the Genus Genius achievement, which unlocks the Unbound by Genus title. Equip it for a 4.5% PvE Damage Boost, 34 Attack Bonus, and 68 Critical Hit. That reward confirms the system is fully built out, and from there the work shifts from leveling to refining the rolls in your most-used genus.
