What Gems and Stardust are used for
Gems are spent on summoning banners to pull new units for your squad. Because the game runs on a gacha-style system, rarities and outcomes are randomized, but a built-in pity mechanic guarantees a rare unit once you reach a certain number of pulls without one. Stardust is used separately to upgrade and evolve units you already own. Banners rotate fairly often, so stacking up Gems from codes before a new banner drops can make a noticeable difference in your roster.
