Alpha Geoclaw is one of the few Alpha Aniimo you cannot simply walk up to. It sits in a flooded cave under the northwestern corner of Nimbus Fields, behind a sealed hole and a wall of vines that only opens once you have poured enough Lumin Amber into the regional branch. The fight itself is short if you bring Fire, and miserable if you do not.
Quick answer: Infuse 120 Lumin Ambers into the Breezy Plains Branch, burn open the blocked hole by the water west of it, then break the Ice Prison with Fire skills during the fight.
Unlock requirement: 120 Lumin Amber in the Breezy Plains Branch
The cave mouth exists from the start, but the path past it is choked with branches and vines that no weapon or skill will cut. The only thing that clears them is infusing 120 Lumin Ambers into the Breezy Plains Branch. Until that counter is met, you can melt the ice seal, drop into the crevice, and still get stopped a few metres in.

Lumin Amber is scattered across the open world and shows up on the map, and you also get it from clearing Sanctums for the first time and from defeating other Alpha and Omega Aniimo. Breezy Plains areas are the obvious farm here, since the surrounding zones are dense with them. Forest of Falling Stars holds 5, The Argent Strait holds 10, and Zephyrus Landbridge holds 6.

The marker sits in Nimbus Fields, north of the Breezy Plains Branch, with the Nimbus Fields Bloom as the closest fast-travel point. Open the map and you will see the Alpha marker between Nimbus Fields and the Forest of Falling Stars border. It spawns all day, so there is no time-of-day window to wait out.

Level and team prep before the fight
The surrounding Nimbus Fields territory is a Lv. 6–16 area, which makes this encounter deceptive. The arena itself lists a Recommended Level of 40, so a team built for the overworld here will be badly outmatched. Sort your roster before you walk in, not after the first wipe.

Bring at least one Fire Aniimo, because Fire is not a damage preference here, it is a hard mechanical requirement. Round the rest out with a Break unit, a dedicated damage dealer, and something that can heal, then rotate Aniimo out before any of them drop rather than after.

How to beat Alpha Geoclaw
Break the Ice Prison with Fire skills
Alpha Geoclaw’s signature move traps you inside an Ice Prison that locks down your movement. While you are stuck in it, the boss charges a heavy attack aimed directly at you. Basic attacks barely scratch the ice, so hitting it with normals is a wasted few seconds you do not have. A Fire skill shatters it fast enough to dodge what comes next.
Force it out of Tunnel with a Pound skill
Geoclaw’s mobility skill is Tunnel, which puts it underground and immune to ranged attacks while it burns stamina. Ranged damage simply will not connect during this. A Pound skill knocks it back into the air and out of the tunnelling state, which is the only reliable way to end the phase on your terms.
Punish the BREAK and BREAK Recovery windows
Like every Alpha and Omega, Geoclaw does not snap back to normal the moment BREAK ends. It drops into BREAK Recovery until its gauge refills, and it takes greatly increased damage through both states. That combined window is where the bulk of your damage should land.
Warning areas light up on the ground before an Alpha attacks. Dodge on the telegraph rather than reacting to the animation.
Alpha Geoclaw skills and stats
An Alpha is still a Geoclaw, just a tougher one, and it uses the same three combat skills. Alpha Aniimo are also born with enhanced skills, which is part of why catching one is worth the Primegy.
| Skill | Effect |
|---|---|
| Icy Gravel Dance | Ice Storm travels straight ahead, stopping at a wall or target and applying Ice Debuff stacks. |
| Ice Spikes | Spike ahead that freezes for 1s, usable while tunnelling, then dashes out of the ground |
| Frost Slam | AoE pincer slam in front, leaves an ice wall for 5s |
Icy Gravel Dance costs 20 EP, carries a power value of 67 and a 1 second cooldown, and is tagged as a Barrage skill. Geoclaw’s trait, Frostbite Sunder, applies Ice Debuff on basic attacks and adds 35% extra BREAK against targets carrying more than five stacks, which is why the species leans so heavily on debuff stacking.
| Stat | Value | Species rank |
|---|---|---|
| HP | 93 | #48 of 86 |
| ATK | 80 | #74 of 86 |
| P.DEF | 113 | #1 of 86 |
| M.DEF | 79 | #26 of 86 |
| BREAK | 103 | #10 of 86 |
| REGEN | 82 | #47 of 86 |
| Total | 550 | #4 of 86 |
The top-ranked physical defence explains the fight’s pacing. Raw physical pressure grinds down slowly, so the BREAK windows matter more here than they do against squishier Alphas.
Catching Alpha Geoclaw after the fight
You do not weaken an Alpha to catch it the way you would a wild Aniimo. You defeat it outright, and then you get exactly one chance to throw an Aniipod. Switch to the most advanced Aniipod you own before that prompt appears, because there is no second attempt.
- Using Primegy is required to catch an Alpha, while Alpha battle rewards are still awarded.
- You cannot catch an Alpha while Twined.
- The first clear rewards remain available after a failed throw if the Aniipod was used.
- Quitting out of the catch screen gives you nothing and does not refund your Primegy.
Alpha Geoclaw rewards and material drops
| First clear reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Safaris | x500 |
| Glimmer | x50 |
| Basic Carried Item Core | x5 |
| Heartseeker Pendant | x1 |
| x1 | |
| Lumin Amber: Breezy Plains | x1 |
Repeat runs drop materials rather than the first clear package. The pool covers Basic, Common and Advanced Carried Item Core, plus Marching Flask, Capacitous Battery and Gargantuan Horn. Opening the Alpha Chest after the kill is what hands over the crafting stock, and spending Primegy on the corpse yields ascension and evolution materials on top.
How beating Alpha Geoclaw unlocks the Geoclaw evolution
Geoclaw cannot be caught anywhere in Idyll. The only route to it is evolving a Budclaw, and that evolution stays locked until Alpha Geoclaw is dead. The kill is the unlock condition, not a bonus.

- Defeat Alpha Geoclaw to unlock the evolution path.
- Raise a Budclaw to Lv. 21.
- The Budclaw’s personality must contain Tenacious.
- Pay the cost of Freeze Stone x3.
You will know the clear registered when the first clear rewards land in your inventory and the Budclaw entry stops showing the Alpha Geoclaw requirement on its evolution screen. If the Aniipod throw failed, that is fine for progression purposes, the evolution unlock only tracks the defeat. Freeze Stone drops from the Ice Alpha in Beast Fang Ridge south of Sanctum: Water to Ice, if you still need the three.
