Scorchhowl is the Nova stage of the Emberpup line, a Fire DPS wolf that lives in Beast Fang Ridge and hits hard enough to punish a careless approach. Most players meet it twice: once as the Alpha boss that gates the Flameruff evolution, and once as a wild or Elite spawn they actually want in their roster.

Quick answer: Alpha Scorchhowl sits east of Sanctum: Water to Ice in Beast Fang Ridge. Attack with Water or Dark, keep moving out of its fire pools, then use an Anipod once the capture prompt appears.

Alpha Scorchhowl location in Beast Fang Ridge

Head to Beast Fang Ridge and travel east from Sanctum: Water to Ice. The Alpha waits in the middle of a three-stone monolith, which is the easiest landmark to aim for once you are in the area. You can also pin it from the map screen and follow the tracking marker straight to the arena.

Walk up and the interaction prompt appears over the target, which starts the encounter on your terms rather than letting it open on you mid-run.

How to beat Alpha Scorchhowl

The fight is about positioning, not gear checks. Scorchhowl’s big swings telegraph slowly, but the ground they land on stays on fire afterwards, so standing still costs you health twice.

Bring the right element. As a Fire type, Scorchhowl takes 1.6x damage from Water and Dark. Leave Grass and Ice partners at home, since Fire resists both. Glacy is a popular pick for this encounter.

Keep circling. Its heavy attacks charge up for a long beat before they land, which is your window to move out of the marked area entirely instead of side-stepping within it.
Never path back through the burned ground. Every AoE leaves a fire pool behind, and those pools stack up over a long fight until the arena has fewer safe lanes than when you started.

Spend your ultimate during the recovery frames after a charged attack. Elemental bursts land cleanly there, and the boss health bar at the top of the screen is the fastest way to check whether your damage type is actually working.

Fire pools do not disappear when the boss repositions, so pick a clean patch of ground before you commit to a long attack animation.

How to catch Scorchhowl after the fight

Once the health bar empties, the capture prompt appears on screen and combat pauses for you. Select an Anipod from the wheel, check the listed catch rate, and throw. At 100%, the capture is guaranteed and there is no second attempt to plan for.

You know it worked when the Aniimo disappears into the pod and the reward panel opens. An Elite Scorchhowl around level 33 hands over a memory item along with player EXP, which is often enough to push you a full level. The new Scorchhowl then shows up in your Aniilog entry, where you can claim its associated rewards and view its evolution line.

Blaze Stone is the reason to come back after the first clear. It is the evolution material for the Flameruff step, and the Alpha is a reliable source of it.

Where to catch wild Scorchhowl and its forms

You do not have to evolve one. Scorchhowl spawns in the wild in Beast Fang Ridge, and two of its variant forms only appear under specific weather. Thunderstorm and Prismana Form spawns are limited to a single Scorchhowl per weather event, so track them down before the weather turns.

Thunderstorm and Prismana Scorchhowl cannot be evolved into. Catching them in the wild is the only route.

Evolving Flameruff into Scorchhowl

The line runs Emberpup, Flameruff, Scorchhowl. Emberpup evolves at Aniimo level 12 after you clear Sanctum: First Spark. The second step is the one the Alpha gates.

  • Flameruff at Aniimo level 20
  • Alpha Scorchhowl defeated
  • Blaze Stone ×3
  • For Highland Form, evolve while in Russet Highlands
  • For Mountain Woods Form, evolve in Beast Fang Ridge during the day

The evolution is confirmed in the Aniilog entry, where the stage label switches from Gamma to Nova.

What Scorchhowl does once you have it

Scorchhowl is a melee DPS. Its trait, Scorching Flames, increases damage against targets weak to its element, and its mobility skill Hustle burns stamina for extra movement speed. Falling Star is the ultimate, a fist slam with 170 power that covers a wide area on an 8-second cooldown.

  • Burn Breaker — 30 EP, 84 power, charged blast that dumps all remaining EP at max charge for 30% extra damage per 10 EP
  • Fire Kick — 0 EP, 72 power, dodge-and-dive that deals 120% damage and raises damage by 20% for 20 seconds on a successful dodge
  • Lightning Kick — 0 EP, 40 power, 15-second cooldown, inflicts Paralysis on a successful dodge
  • Fire Bolt — 10 EP, 30 power, applies 2 stacks of Fire Debuff for 5 seconds

For Homeland duty it carries Fire affinity, and Flamerion and Somniwing are the recommended partners. If you plan to push further down the line, hold onto it: Scorchhowl is the step before the Fire and Dark Nova, Inferlupa.
