Advancing quickly in Aniimo is less about grinding wild creatures and more about understanding which cap is holding you back. Your creatures and your character level at the same time, but a hidden ceiling decides how far either can climb. Once you know how that ceiling moves, you stop wasting hours on activities that never advance the number you care about.
Quick answer: Your Aniimo cannot exceed your Pathfinder Level, and your Pathfinder Level cannot exceed the hard cap set by your Student Level. To advance efficiently, prioritize the Core Course and Elite Training objectives that raise your Student Level, because everything else is capped by it.

Two level bars and the cap that gates them
Aniimo runs two separate experience bars that fill at the same time. One is your Pathfinder Level, the other belongs to each individual creature. They share the moment you earn EXP, but they are not interchangeable, and each is limited in a different way.
- Pathfinder Level raises your character’s stats, damage, capture rate, stamina, and Twine damage bonus. It also acts as the soft cap for your creatures, so no Aniimo can level past your current Pathfinder Level.
- Student Level is the hard cap for both your Pathfinder Level and your creatures. Each Student Level raises the ceiling and hands you new Trait Points for passive and active skills, special evolutions, and traversal.
- Aniimo Level sets each creature’s core stats and unlocks its abilities, but it can never rise above the soft cap your Pathfinder Level sets.
The result is a stack. Student Level limits Pathfinder Level, and Pathfinder Level limits every creature you own. If your team feels stuck, the fix is almost always to push your Student Level higher rather than to farm the same enemies.
| Student Level | Hard cap |
|---|---|
| Student 1 | Level 15 |
| Student 2 | Level 25 |
| Next milestones | Level 35, then 40, rising toward the max of 70 |
EXP is not wasted at the cap. When you hit a ceiling, surplus experience goes into an escrow that shows as an overfilled bar, such as 7000/3500. The moment you raise the cap, that stored EXP counts toward the levels you just unlocked.

Three activity groups feed your experience bars. Knowing which ones expire helps you order your play so nothing valuable slips away.
- Main quests, side quests, objectives, and Core Course or elective Path goals, including Path of Twining, Path of Discovery, Path of Victory, and Path of Splendor.
- Your ecosystem knowledge develops by capturing Aniimo, uncovering secrets and chests, solving puzzles, and completing exploration objectives such as Badges.
- Completing Sanctums, events, Pathfinder Challenges, and defeating Alpha Aniimo.
Events are time-sensitive, so treat any limited window as a top priority before it closes. Main and side quests remain available permanently, which means you can safely leave them for last when an event is running. The catch is that main quests and their objectives are tied to your Student Level, so they are also what actually breaks the hard cap.

The fastest route to raise your Student Level
Elite Training is run through Dr. Lewis, who stays at the Outpost. Each time you finish a set of Course objectives, you return to him, take a short test, and your Student Level goes up along with the hard cap. Follow the tiers in order below.
Early game, up to Student Level 2

Cap 25 to cap 35
Cap 35 to cap 40 (Promotion: Legacy’s Protection)
From here the loop repeats all the way to the ceiling. Stack activities, defeat Alpha Aniimo, complete Capture Badges, and clear Core Course objectives, then see Dr. Lewis for the next assessment. Keep cycling that pattern and you reach the maximum of Level 70 far faster than by grinding alone.

Level your Aniimo without burning materials
Raising the cap only matters if your creatures can actually reach it, and training materials are finite. A few habits keep your investment focused on the team you will keep.
- Feed EXP items such as the Growth Bud, Growth Flower, and Growth Fruit to close level gaps so your creatures can contend with higher-level wild Aniimo.
- With the Star-Up system, ascend a creature to increase its HP, Attack, and other stats. The required materials drop only from defeating Alpha Aniimo whose type matches the creature being ascended.
- Hold your premium resources for high-quality catches. A modest creature is fine for the story, but save your best materials for units worth a long-term build.
The Sparkling Cube is worth setting aside for exactly this reason. A catch made with it delivers guaranteed Perfect Potential, so keep one in reserve for the creature you plan to Twine with for the long haul rather than spending it on an early filler.

How to confirm your cap actually moved
You know a promotion worked when Dr. Lewis’s test at the Outpost completes and your Student Level ticks up, which immediately raises the hard cap on your bar. Any EXP sitting in escrow then applies at once, so both your Pathfinder Level and your creatures can climb past the old ceiling right away. If your levels stop rising and the bar shows an overfilled figure, that is the signal to return to Dr. Lewis and finish the next Core Course objective rather than to keep fighting wild Aniimo.
