The Secret of the Golden Helmet never enters your quest journal, carries no map marker, and plays out exactly once. It is also the only way to get the Mountain Woods form of Helmut, which makes it one of the easier things to walk straight past in Russet Highlands and one of the more annoying things to miss.

Quick answer: Twine with an Aniimo that has the Cloak skill, sneak up to the Golden Helmet west of First Sight Sanctum in Russet Highlands, then catch the Mountain Woods Helmut that appears.

What you need before triggering the scene

Because the scene fires a single time, turning up unprepared wastes it. Sort these out first:

  • An Aniimo in your collection with the Cloak mobility skill.
  • A stack of capture items, ideally high-grade Aniipods, for the Helmut that spawns.
  • A battle-ready team, since the encounter starts the moment you take the helmet.
  • Access to Russet Highlands and the First Sight Sanctum waypoint for fast travel.

Golden Helmet location in Russet Highlands

At about (-597, 1628), the altar is in Russet Highlands’ Sanctum: All in Sight, a short way west of First Sight Sanctum. Fast-travel to the First Sight waypoint; you’ll appear beside Sorora, a Bravery Painting easel, and several ordinary Helmuts. Glide down along the cliff, go past the Timid Helmut beneath the large tree, then look behind it for the concealed altar.

Three onlookers are gathered around the pedestal, and the Devoted Helmut is the one that matters. Walk up as a human and it shouts you off in no uncertain terms, with a dialogue box insisting you keep away from the Golden Helmet.

Twining with a standard Helmut to blend in does not solve it either. Cycle through the regular Helmut forms and the guard turns you back every time, so a disguise is not the answer here.

Which Aniimo have the Cloak skill

Cloak is a mobility skill that drops you into the Cloak State, turning you invisible while Twined with the right creature. Three families carry it, each across four forms.

IgnitisBasic, Forest, Highland, Prismana

Wisptis is the quickest of the three to secure. Switch the time of day to night, head to Berylline Vale, and catch one before you make the trip out to the altar.

Taking the Golden Helmet: walkthrough

Travel to First Sight Sanctum in Russet Highlands and move west until you reach the group of wild Helmuts. These are ordinary spawns you can catch freely, and they mark the right ledge.
Glide down the cliff and follow the path past the large tree to the pedestal holding the Golden Helmet. Do not approach yet.
Open your Aniimo menu and Twine with your Cloak carrier, then activate the skill to enter the Cloak State. You need to be invisible before you close the distance, not while the guard is already reacting to you.

Walk up to the pedestal while cloaked and use the Sneak it away! prompt. The onlookers stay put, and the helmet reveals what it has been hiding.
The Golden Helmet becomes a Mountain Woods Helmut. Catch it. This is the step that actually closes the scene, so throw your best Aniipod rather than chipping away with basic ones.

How to confirm the scene is complete

Capturing the Mountain Woods Helmut is the confirmation. It registers in the Aniilog as No. 061, and the entry’s spawn rule updates to note that the form appears after completing the Secret of the Golden Helmet. Nearby spawns then refresh, so more Mountain Woods Helmuts start turning up in the area rather than the single scripted one.

The second check is Rookey. Open the Aniilog and the map, and the Mountain Woods form of Rookey should now show a tracked spawn in Russet Highlands.

Both sites sit inside Russet Highlands, part of the wider Breezy Plains region, so you can farm spares for evolution fodder without repeating the scene.

Mountain Woods Helmut evolutions and requirements

Mountain Woods Helmut is a cosmetic variant where combat is concerned. Its base stats, combat skills, innate skills and mobility skills match the standard Helmut. The value sits in what it evolves into: from level 45, it can branch into a Mountain Woods Pawney or a Mountain Woods Rookey, and each branch has its own gate.

  • Mountain Woods Pawney: finish the Sword of Bravery quest first.
  • Mountain Woods Rookey: you need the Unwavering Rampart passive talent, then defeat a specified opponent in Defense Mode with a Counter skill dealing the damage.
  • Unwavering Rampart: unlocked at Trailblazer 1, which you reach while clearing Elite Training missions. It is exclusive to Rookey.

It is a stage 3 creature in the BREAK role, standing 1.5m and weighing 18kg, and it evolves from Helmut (Mountain Woods Form). Releasing one returns 2 Growth Flowers, and reporting it pays 100 Credits. The in-game description leans on the armor: polished to gold after blocking countless attacks in defense of its clan.

If you are still working through Russet Highlands, it is worth doing this before you move on. Getting the Cloak carrier is the only real cost, and one cloaked walk up to a pedestal opens a whole evolution line you cannot access any other way.
