Update 2.0, Summer Siege, dropped nine new units into Anime Expeditions on August 31, 2026, and every one of them has a different unlock path. Four come out of a capsule you buy with event currency, one comes from fishing, two are locked behind pass and bingo progress, and the two Secrets sit at the end of a portal crafting chain that takes real grinding.
Quick answer: Buy Summer Capsules for 100 Sand Dollars each in the Tidal Siege shop for the four capsule Mythics, fish in Tidal Siege for Sharkfang (Abyssal), hit Tier 50 of the Premium Season 2 Battlepass for Jester, fill the Kitsune Bingo board for Kitsune, and farm Tier 5 portals for four Djinn’s Treasure or four Charged Dust to craft the Secret portals for Sovereign (Djinn) and Lightning God (Overcharged).
All nine Update 2.0 units and how to get them
The Update Log button in the lobby lists the full Summer Siege changelog, including all nine units and their evolved forms. Each base unit has an evolution, so the names you see in the meta lists are the upgraded versions.

The split is two Secrets, two Exclusives, and five Mythics. Here is where each one actually comes from.

| Unit | Rarity | Unlock condition |
|---|---|---|
| Sovereign (Djinn) | Secret | Craft and clear Sovereign’s Portal using 4 Djinn’s Treasure |
| Lightning God (Overcharged) | Secret | Craft and clear Lightning God’s Portal using 4 Charged Dust |
| Jester | Exclusive | Tier 50 of the Premium Season 2 Battlepass |
| Kitsune | Exclusive | Complete the Kitsune Bingo board |
| Head Captain (Char) | Mythic | Summer Capsule |
| Rainman (Forecast) | Mythic | Summer Capsule |
| Sand (Alligator) | Mythic | Summer Capsule |
| Water Mage (Scholar) | Mythic | Summer Capsule |
| Sharkfang (Abyssal) | Mythic | Fishing in Tidal Siege / Sharktooth Conch |
Summer Capsules: the four Sand Dollar Mythics
Head Captain (Char), Rainman (Forecast), Sand (Alligator), and Water Mage (Scholar) all share one pool. They are random pulls from the Summer Capsule, which costs 100 Sand Dollars in the Tidal Siege event shop. The same capsule also holds the new summer skins, including Sharkfang (Summer), Sovereign (Summer), Sand (Summer), Carrot (Summer), The Hero (Summer), and Rainman (Galaxy).

Sand Dollars come from clearing infinite waves in the Tidal Siege game mode, so capsule funding and Secret unit funding are the same grind. Because the pool is random, expect duplicates before you complete the set. Update 2.0 added capsule rate visibility while opening and auto-sell settings for capsule contents, which makes bulk opening less painful.

Sharkfang (Abyssal): fishing in Tidal Siege
Sharkfang is the one Mythic that ignores the capsule entirely. It is tied to the new fishing mechanic inside Tidal Siege, and the unit unlocks by activating the Sharktooth Conch. Fishing itself is done from the fish icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and it also pulls traits, equipment, and other units.
Rod quality changes how fast that grind goes. The Normal Rod is unlocked for everyone, the Auto Rod is awarded at Wave 150 in Tidal Siege and skips the fishing minigame, the Advanced Rod is sold in the Summer Shop, the Recycling Rod arrives after 100 total catches, and the Lucky Rod has a 1% chance to drop from any catch and guarantees a Mythic on every eighth fish. There are also six Event Ranks to climb for better rewards.
Jester and Kitsune: the two Exclusives
Jester sits at Tier 50 of the Premium track of Season 2’s Battlepass, so it requires both the paid pass and enough pass EXP to reach the final stretch. Nothing about the unit is random. Once Tier 50 unlocks, you claim it directly from the pass menu.
Kitsune is free but slower. It requires completing the Kitsune Bingo board in the Events menu, which fills using stamps that drop from a wide spread of modes, including Story, Infinite, Challenge, Mastery, Raid, Portal, Tower, and Tidal Siege. Because stamps come from almost everything, normal progression fills the board while you farm for the Secrets.

Secret units: crafting Sovereign’s Portal and Lightning God’s Portal
Both Secrets use the same Portals system. You obtain a Tier 1 portal, clear it repeatedly to push it up through five tiers, farm a crafting material from Tier 5 runs, then use four of that material to craft a Secret Portal. Clearing that Secret Portal is what awards the unit, so there is no luck involved at the final step.
Both materials, Djinn’s Treasure and Charged Dust, drop at 4% from Tier 5 portals with a 25-run pity. Augments can be applied to portals to raise difficulty in exchange for better reward chances and faster pity progress, and Update 2.0 added auto portal selection and auto augment settings to cut down on menu work.
Sovereign (Djinn)
Lightning God (Overcharged)
Confirming the unlock and why progress stalls
Every one of these paths ends with the unit landing in your inventory, so the check is the same in all cases. Open your unit list and look for the exact name, including the evolved suffix, such as Sovereign (Djinn) rather than plain Sovereign. Capsule pulls show their result on the opening screen, pass rewards vanish from the Tier 50 slot once claimed, and Kitsune Bingo marks the board as complete.
The common stalls are mechanical rather than mysterious. Tier 1 through Tier 4 portal clears never drop the Secret materials, so farming lower tiers produces equipment and nothing else. Jester will not appear on the free pass track. And Sand Dollars are the shared currency for both Summer Capsules and the 1,000-cost Summer Portal, so spending them on capsules first delays the Sovereign chain.
Tip: Set up auto portal selection and auto augment before starting a long Tier 5 farm. Both were added in this update specifically to make repeated portal clears less manual.
If you only have time for one chain, the two Secrets are the ones worth prioritizing. Sovereign (Djinn) is the strongest boss-killer in the Update 2.0 meta thanks to its chain attacks and Freeze application, while Lightning God (Overcharged) scales its Electricity damage up to a 300% bonus at 60 Voltage and brings automatic stuns. The capsule Mythics and the two Exclusives fill out a roster fast, but they do not require the same commitment.
