Anime Expeditions: How to Unlock the Prodigy Secret Unit Fast

Everything the Scholar's Trial requires in East Town, plus the fastest order to clear each objective and claim Prodigy.

Everything the Scholar’s Trial requires in East Town, plus the fastest order to clear each objective and claim Prodigy.

Prodigy is a free Secret unit in Anime Expeditions, handed out by an NPC in the East Town map rather than pulled from a banner. It sits at the top of the current tier list in its evolved Prodigy (Rage) form, so it is worth the grind. The catch is that the reward is locked behind a multi-part questline called the Scholar’s Trial, and one of its objectives depends on finishing a second NPC quest first.

Quick answer: Load into East Town during an active stage, find the Prodigy NPC to the right of the portal near the red basketball court, and complete every objective in the Scholar’s Trial. Return to the same NPC to claim the Prodigy unit once all objectives read complete.

Where to start: Find the Prodigy NPC in East Town

East Town is the only map where you can talk to NPCs, and they only appear while you are inside an active stage. The sandbox mode will not show them. Enter East Town, walk to the start of the track, and head left toward the basketball court. Prodigy stands on the right side of the portal near that court, with a Speak [E] prompt above it.

Interacting with Prodigy opens the Scholar’s Trial. A second NPC, Bioinsect, sits near the beach on the left side of the portal and runs its own quest. You need Bioinsect’s reward to complete one of Prodigy’s objectives, so clear that first.

Scholar’s Trial requirements

The Scholar’s Trial has eight objectives. They mix story clears, the Expedition system, evolution, and a tournament entry. Here is the full checklist.

Clear Bioinsect’s Perfection’s Trial first

Two objectives depend on evolved units, so set them up before anything else. You need Bioinsect (Final Form) for its 150-wave objective, and the evolution material for that form comes from Bioinsect’s own quest.

Summon Bioinsect and Carrot from the Mini or Standard Banner. You cannot start Bioinsect’s Unit Trial until you own the unit, and you need Carrot for the separate Carrot (Unleashed) wave objective.
Talk to Bioinsect near the beach and start Perfection’s Trial, then clear its Unit Trial. Unit Trials are among the hardest stages in the game, so bring a strong team. Completing it rewards Mechanical Wings and 15 Equipment Rerolls.
Open the Evolve menu, select Bioinsect, and craft Bioinsect (Final Form). Alongside Mechanical Wings, the evolution needs a Windstorm Core, an Earth Core, an Ignite Core, and a Spike Core, plus two new passives. Evolving this unit also ticks the “Evolve 1 unit” objective on the Scholar’s Trial.

Fastest order to clear the Scholar’s Trial

Once Bioinsect (Final Form) and Carrot are ready, you can knock out several objectives together instead of grinding them one by one.

Put Bioinsect (Final Form) and Carrot (Unleashed) on the same team. Both wave requirements count at the same time, so any stage you play chips away at both 150-wave objectives together.
Clear all story acts in East Town to finish the “Complete East Town” objective while you rack up waves with the two units above.
Enter East Town Expedition on Difficulty 3, pick a path that leads to a Boss Node, and defeat the boss to clear the Boss Node objective.
Run the West City Expedition and choose a route stacked with Mechanical Scrap rewards. Mechanical Scrap is a material earned from Expeditions, and you need 350 in total.
Open the Tournaments menu and enter the King’s Tomb Solo Tournament to satisfy the “Participate in a Tournament” objective. Entering is enough to count.

Beat Prodigy’s Trial with the preset team

The final objective is Prodigy’s Trial, a preset stage that hands you a fixed team of Prodigy (Rage), The Drink (Jukebox), String Demon (Awakened), Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1), The Hero, and Stone Alchemist. You cannot swap in your own units, so the win comes down to placement and targeting.

Place Stone Alchemist farm units early to build your economy before enemies get dangerous.
Drop one Salmon Sorcerer near the start of the track to control early enemies, then let the rest of the wave reach the middle of the map before you commit more units.
Place and upgrade The Hero first so its damage buff applies to your other units, then add more copies of The Hero, String Demon, and Salmon Sorcerer.
Switch the targeting of String Demon and Salmon Sorcerer to Shielded so they strip the final boss’s 50 shields.
Place Prodigy (Rage) and fire its active skill, or enable Auto Skill, to finish the boss once the shields are gone.

Claim Prodigy and confirm it worked

When every objective in the Scholar’s Trial shows as complete, return to the Prodigy NPC in East Town and interact with it again. It hands over the Prodigy unit, a Secret-rarity Light attacker with physical damage. You will know it worked when Prodigy appears in your Units list.

After you claim it, the same NPC offers a follow-up quest, Perfection’s Trial, which rewards Mechanical Wings equipment and 15 Equipment Rerolls once you complete Bioinsect’s Special Trial. That step is optional and does not affect owning Prodigy itself.

Common reasons the quest will not progress

  • You are in the sandbox mode. The Prodigy and Bioinsect NPCs only spawn during an active East Town stage.
  • You have not summoned Bioinsect yet. Its Unit Trial cannot start until you own the unit from the Mini or Standard Banner.
  • You are running the wrong Bioinsect. The wave objective only counts Bioinsect (Final Form), not the base version.
  • The Boss Node objective is set to Difficulty 3 specifically, so lower difficulties will not register.

None of the objectives are especially hard on their own, but the full run takes time because of the two 150-wave clears and the 350 Mechanical Scrap requirement. Setting up Bioinsect (Final Form) and Carrot (Unleashed) on one team early is what turns this from a slow grind into a manageable session, and it leaves you with a top-tier Secret unit at the end.
