Anime Origins Update 1: Re:Zero Units, New Maps, and Release Time

Everything confirmed in the Update 1 previews, from Emmy's ice abilities to the new Library of the Dead map.

Everything confirmed in the Update 1 previews, from Emmy’s ice abilities to the new Library of the Dead map.

Anime Origins is about to get its first major content patch, and the previews leading into it point squarely at one anime: Re:Zero. Update 1 brings two headline units, two fresh maps, and a rebuilt way of getting into matches, replacing the portal-hopping most players have been doing since launch.

Quick answer: Update 1 is scheduled for Saturday, September 5 at 9:00 PM, according to the in-game event listing on the Anime Origins Roblox page. It adds the Secret unit Reinhard Van Astrea, the Mythical support unit Emmy, the Library of the Dead map, a desert map with three portals, and a matchmaking menu. Servers go down for maintenance a few hours beforehand.

Update 1 release time and maintenance window

The update is listed as an event on the game’s Roblox page for Saturday, September 5 at 9:00 PM. Maintenance starts a few hours before that, so the experience will be unplayable for a stretch ahead of the drop rather than switching over instantly at the listed time.

Note: the event listing time displays in your own local time zone on Roblox, so check the countdown on the game page rather than converting it yourself.

Emmy (Spirit Arts): stats and ice abilities

Emmy is the Mythical unit of the patch, and she is built as a support piece rather than a raw damage dealer. Her whole kit is stacking slows and frost effects, which makes her a lane-control option instead of something you place to burn down a boss.

Her attack speed at level 1 is slow enough that she is not carrying early waves on her own. The value shows up in what those hits apply.

AbilityTypeEffect
Curse of the WitchPassiveSlows enemies by 10% for 6 seconds and applies Frostbite. Stacks up to 3 times.
Frozen TerritoryPassiveCreates a frozen zone when Frostbite is shattered, slowing enemies inside it by 15%.
Al HumaSkillDrops a large ice formation over an area equal to 200% of her range and triggers Frostbreak on every enemy caught in it.

The two passives are meant to chain. Curse of the Witch builds Frostbite stacks, and shattering that Frostbite is what leaves behind the Frozen Territory zone for the extra 15% slow.

Reinhard Van Astrea joins as a Secret unit

Reinhard Van Astrea is the Secret-rarity addition in Update 1, sitting above Mythical in the game’s rarity order. The previews focused on his attack animations rather than a full stat readout, so his numbers and skill list are not confirmed ahead of the patch going live.

New maps: Library of the Dead and the desert stage

Two maps were shown. Library of the Dead is a two-lane layout, which means your placements have to cover both paths instead of funneling everything into one choke point. Hill positions were called out specifically, so elevated spots matter for coverage there.

The second is a desert map containing three portals. Three entry points in one space suggests a hub for a world boss or a separate mode rather than a standard wave stage, though the patch itself will settle what those portals lead to. West City also appears as Story – Act 1 in the map selection.

Matchmaking menu replaces portal entry

The most structural change in Update 1 is the new matchmaking and map selection interface. Instead of walking to a portal in the lobby to queue for a stage, you pick the map from a menu and match from there. Practically, that means less time spent running around the hub and a clearer view of which stages are available to you.

How to confirm Update 1 is live

Once maintenance ends, launch the game and look at the lobby. If you are still walking to portals to start a match, you are on an old server and the update has not reached you yet.
Leave and rejoin to get placed on a fresh server. Servers do not all switch over at the same moment, so rejoining is the fastest way to land on one running the new build.
Open the map selection screen. Seeing Library of the Dead alongside West City (Story – Act 1) confirms you are on the updated version.

Patches in Anime Origins have consistently come with redemption codes attached, and the developers post update logs, sneak peeks, and code drops in the official Anime Origins Discord. If you are stockpiling Gems for Emmy or Reinhard pulls, it is worth checking the Codes button in the lobby right after the servers come back up.
