Apex Legends Season 31 has one line on Respawn’s 2026 roadmap that nobody can stop talking about: a “Battle Royale update” with no details attached. The season fills the November 2026 to January 2027 slot. Around that blank entry sit a set of confirmed features, developer comments from an October 15 AMA about the Wildcard mode, and a long list of leaks that Respawn has not verified.
Quick answer: For Season 31, Respawn has confirmed two Wildcard events alongside changes to ranked play and Battle Royale mode, a Legend overhaul, and an akimbo weapon. Ring and Crypto reworks have only surfaced in leaks.
Apex Legends Season 31 features: confirmed vs. rumored
Respawn published the roadmap on February 10, 2026, covering five seasons. It has revised that plan since, and the biggest revision moved ranked work out of Season 32 and into Season 31. Everything else below is either a roadmap commitment or unofficial chatter.
| Feature | Status | What’s known |
|---|---|---|
| Battle Royale mode update | Confirmed | Contents unannounced |
| Legend rework | Confirmed | Legend not named |
| Akimbo weapon | Confirmed | Dual-wield setup, gun not named |
| Ranked updates | Confirmed | Pulled forward from Season 32 |
| Wildcard events | Confirmed | Two during the season |
| ALGS Year 6 Championship | Confirmed | Held in this window |
| New ring system | Rumored | Community theory |
| Crypto rework and Prestige skin | Rumored | Leak |
| Legend bans in Ranked | Rumored | Leak |
Respawn hasn’t revealed when the season will launch. Leaks suggest November 5, 2026, corresponding to a 2 AM November 6 start in Japan, but no date is official. Seasons usually last around three months. Battle Pass levels and Ranked Battle Royale ranks reset; currencies, shards, crafting metals, and cosmetics remain.
The Battle Royale update and the ring theory
For Season 31, Respawn has described only a general update to core Battle Royale. That lack of detail has prompted many players to suspect changes to the ring, one of the few systems affecting every match from the drop through the final circle. Discussion focuses on making ring positions more predictable for players, rather than random.
The leaks add a related item: “possible changes to ring contraction mechanics,” meaning how and when the circle closes. That’s a different thing from where it ends up, and nothing in either rumor has appeared in patch notes.

If circles did become easier to read, it would change more than the endgame:
- Rotations could begin sooner and use set routes, rather than hinging on chance.
- Landing spots near reliable endgame zones would be worth more, which could move hot drops.
- This could change where fights gather: squads might hold positions they believe will remain inside the ring.
The ring rework is an interpretation of a genuine but nonspecific roadmap entry. It remains unconfirmed until Respawn identifies the feature.
Akimbo weapons and the Legend rework
In Season 31, a new akimbo setup lets you wield a pair of identical guns. Respawn hasn’t revealed which weapon will get it. Leaks and community speculation suggest the Wingman. Akimbo is already part of Apex: the first dual-wielded pistols arrived in Season 22: Shockwave. So Season 31 builds on an existing system, and the effect will hinge on the chosen weapon and the severity of its handling penalties.
Respawn hasn’t named the Legend getting the confirmed rework, either. Leaks point to Crypto and a Crypto Prestige skin; audio for the reported rework has also surfaced, often a sign that content is in the build. A Legend rework in Apex may replace abilities entirely, not simply adjust balance. In Season 30, Bloodhound received Allfather’s Cloak as a completely new ultimate. It conceals nearby players, but ends if they take damage or fire. Season 31’s rework may be just as extensive.
Leaked Season 31 balance and loot changes
Beyond Crypto, the leaks describe a fairly long list of sandbox changes. None of it is official, and the same leak summary says so itself.
- Lifeline: buffs, including rumors that her original revive shield returns.
- Revenant: balance adjustments and buffs.
- Hemlok: its burst fire mode coming back.
- L-STAR: leaving the Care Package and returning to normal floor loot.
- Ranked: Legend bans, mirroring the ALGS draft rules.
- Events: a bot-themed skin event, the Crypto Prestige skin, and a collaboration tied to a spear melee item.
Legend bans are the most plausible item on that list. Respawn has been testing bans at the highest level of competition to push more variety in team compositions, and bringing them to Ranked would fit the ranked work it pulled into this season.
Wildcard after the October 15 AMA
Wildcard operates outside Battle Royale and Ranked, which is intentional. Respawn can test modifiers and experimental mechanics there without affecting the competitive ladder. Previous events have featured wallrunning, cloaking, lifesteal, and critical-hit boosts. Season 31 will have two Wildcard events. The current Blood Pact event gives players Beast and Demon faction powers in a haunted Kings Canyon, where fog appears randomly.
In the October 15 AMA, developers addressed where the mode goes next. Players had raised a specific complaint. Wildcard’s pace makes the standard 4,000-damage and 20-kill badges far easier to earn, and that cheapens them in regular matches. Respawn’s responses:
- It is considering badges exclusive to Wildcard so the standard high-tier badges keep their prestige.
- It is looking into a Solo Wildcard mode and figuring out the right time to run it. It is not confirmed.
- It is reviewing Wildcard’s respawn system, aiming to keep matches fast while making eliminations matter.
- Older limited-time modes, including the Halloween infection mode Shadowfall, could return, though nothing is confirmed.
None of those items carries a date. They’re stated intentions, not scheduled features.
Where Apex Legends stands going into Season 31
Season 30: Marked laid much of the groundwork when it went live on August 4, 2026. World’s Edge was rebuilt with new and restored POIs, including Sorting Factory’s return. The loot hunt also became tighter: purple attachments appear less frequently, while gold attachments, gold backpacks, and the Hot Zone were removed. Regenerating internal batteries took the place of lootable energy ammo. Corrupted Attachments provide powerful upgrades with a drawback, and each weapon is limited to one.
Both Loba and Rampart received buffs at launch. Loba’s ultimate now has a 30-second cooldown, and her tactical bracelet moves faster and deploys sooner, making it a more reliable mid-fight escape. On September 14, 2026, the Marked midseason patch delivered reworks for Fuse and Catalyst, buffs for Conduit, and an anti-cheat system targeting unauthorized controllers. Later that month, EA Javelin Anticheat took Easy Anti-Cheat’s place on PC.
How much weight to give Season 31 leaks
The Apex Legends VS Street Fighter 6 event, which brought Wildcard to a remixed Olympus, is a useful reminder here. For months, rumors insisted the next crossover was Mortal Kombat. It was Street Fighter. Respawn has also said that anything on its roadmap can change before launch.
So the split is fairly clean. The Battle Royale update, the Legend rework, the akimbo weapon, ranked changes, and two Wildcard events are coming in some form. The ring rework, Crypto, Lifeline’s shield, Legend bans, and the November 5 date are worth watching, but none of them is real until it shows up in Season 31’s patch notes.
