Trinkets are small equippable accessories in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced that grant passive effects, from slower oxygen drain underwater to bigger takedown chains in a crowd. They are entirely new to the remake and were not part of the 2013 original, and the smart part is that you can slot two at once and stack their perks.
Quick answer: You can equip two trinkets at the same time. Collect them by buying from the General Store and Treasure Dealer, looting overworld and underwater chests, and completing main missions, side quests, Templar Hunts, and Assassin Contracts.
What trinkets do and why two slots matter
Each trinket is a passive perk tied to a specific situation. Some extend how long you can stay submerged, some make your sword combos break enemy defenses faster, and a few simply put more Reales in your pocket. None of them dominate on their own, but the right pairing changes how a whole playthrough feels.
Because you carry two at once, you never have to commit to a single playstyle. You can run a combat perk alongside an economy perk and gain both benefits with no trade-off. That flexibility is the main reason it is worth collecting as many as you can rather than settling for the first pair you find.

The three ways to collect trinkets
Buy them from shops
The General Store and the Treasure Dealer both sell trinkets. Prices run from a few thousand Reales up to 25,000 Reales for Shark Teeth, which also requires a fully upgraded General Store before it appears. Some purchases ask for crafting materials instead of coin, such as the Black Pearl, which costs 60 Wine, 40 Spice, 30 Tobacco, and 20 Aloe. Save up materials and money early so a shop trinket is never out of reach.

Loot chests
Several trinkets sit inside guaranteed chests scattered across the map, including underwater caches and hidden caves. The Diamond Trinket, for example, is in an underwater chest near Cape Bonavista right at the start of the game. Mark chest icons on the map and open every one you pass, since many hold collectibles you cannot buy anywhere.
Finish quests and contracts
A large share of trinkets come from main memory sequences, side quests, Templar Hunts, and Assassin Contracts. Some drop into your inventory automatically once you complete an objective, while others are hidden inside the mission itself. Explore the mission area before you rush to the next checkpoint, or you may leave a trinket behind.

Note: The Brass Bird Trinket does not appear in the world at all. It is bundled with the Master Assassin Character Pack, which is included in the Deluxe Edition.
Which trinkets to grab first
Early on, the Diamond Trinket is the easiest high-value pick because it sits near your starting area and takes the pressure off underwater exploration. If you favor stealth, the Hidden Ones Sigil rewards a crouch-heavy approach by giving you more time before enemies notice you.
For aggressive combat, pair Shark Teeth with the Black Pearl. Shark Teeth stops Brutes from blocking your Chain Takedowns, and the Black Pearl extends each takedown to one more enemy, so crowded fights clear out far faster. Trinkets stay a minor system on paper, but combining the right two changes how smoothly your run plays, so keep looting chests and finishing quests as you sail the Caribbean.
