Atomic Core in Sailor Piece: Where It Drops and How to Farm It

The Atomic Core is a Mythical-tier crafting material in Sailor Piece, and it exists for one reason: it's a required ingredient for forging the Shadow sword at the Shadow NPC on Dungeon Island. If you're chasing the Shadow blade (or the Atomic sword further down the line), this is the bottleneck you'll hit.

Quick answer: Atomic Cores drop from the Shadow world boss at roughly a 0.75–3% rate, scaling with difficulty. You'll need Dungeon Keys from other world bosses to summon Shadow, then farm it until the Core drops.

What the Atomic Core does

The Atomic Core is a Mythical material used in the crafting recipe for the Shadow sword, one of the stepping-stone Mythical weapons you need before you can touch late-game gear like the Atomic sword itself. Without an Atomic Core in your inventory, the Shadow NPC on Dungeon Island won't hand over the weapon.

It's worth being clear about the name. "Atomic Core" and "Atomic" (the sword) sound the same, but they come from different bosses on different islands. The Core comes from Shadow. The sword comes from a separate Atomic NPC on Lawless Island and uses an entirely different set of materials.

Shadow is the only confirmed source of Atomic Cores. The drop rate climbs with the boss difficulty you pick when summoning, so Hard and Extreme runs give meaningfully better odds than Normal, assuming you can actually clear them.

How to get Dungeon Keys to summon Shadow

You can't walk up to Shadow and fight — the boss has to be summoned, and the summon item is a Dungeon Key. Dungeon Keys drop from other world bosses in the game (specifically the world boss pool that excludes Shadow itself). They're Epic rarity, so the drop rate isn't brutal, but you will need to farm a stack of keys to run Shadow repeatedly.

If you're still progressing, any world boss you can reliably kill works. Gojo, Sukuna, Jin Woo, and similar high-tier bosses all feed into the Dungeon Key pool.

Farming loop

Step 1: Travel to whichever world boss island you clear fastest and farm Dungeon Keys. You'll want several before committing to a Shadow session, since Atomic Core drop rates are low even on high difficulties.

Step 2: Head to Dungeon Island and use a Dungeon Key to summon Shadow. Pick the highest difficulty you can reliably beat — the drop chance increase is the whole point of this grind.

Step 3: Defeat Shadow and check your inventory for the Atomic Core. If it didn't drop, you'll likely still see Shadow Essence, Void Seed, or Umbral Capsule, all of which feed into the same Shadow sword recipe.

Step 4: Repeat until an Atomic Core appears. Teaming with other players shortens each kill significantly, which matters when you're running the boss ten or more times.

Tip: Stack Luck boosts before your Shadow runs. Titles, Spec Passives, and Luck-boosting accessories all raise your effective drop rate on Mythical items like the Atomic Core.

Other Shadow drops worth keeping

Since you'll be running Shadow repeatedly anyway, it helps to know what else comes out of the fight. Almost everything Shadow drops is used in the Shadow sword recipe, so very little of your loot is wasted.

ItemRarityDrop rate from Shadow
Atomic CoreMythical0.75% – 3%
Shadow EssenceLegendary2% – 4.5%
Void SeedLegendary4.5% – 15%
Umbral CapsuleEpic12.5% – 35%

For context, the full Shadow sword recipe at the Shadow NPC is 1 Atomic Core, 4 Shadow Essence, 8 Void Seed, and 20 Umbral Capsule, plus 10M money and 15,000 gems. The Atomic Core is almost always the last piece to drop because it has by far the lowest rate.

Why the drop keeps failing

There's no hidden trigger or secret condition on the Atomic Core. It's a straight RNG roll on each Shadow kill. A few things genuinely affect your odds, and a few don't.

What actually helps: fighting Shadow on higher difficulty (Hard/Extreme push the rate toward the 3% end), and stacking Luck from Titles and passives before the fight. What doesn't help: killing the boss faster, using specific weapons, or running it solo versus in a group — the roll happens on completion regardless.

If you've run Shadow a dozen times without a Core, that's unfortunate but normal for a sub-3% drop. Keep going.

After you get the Core

Once the Atomic Core lands in your inventory, take it plus the rest of the materials to the Shadow NPC on Dungeon Island to craft the Shadow sword. That sword then becomes a prerequisite for the Atomic sword questline on Lawless Island, where you'll need the Eminence Incarnate title, 80 Abyss Sigils, and a handful of drops from the separate Atomic boss.

In other words, the Atomic Core isn't the end of the grind — it's the gate that opens the next one. But it's the slowest gate in the chain, so clearing it is the real milestone.
