Respeccing lets you refund the Attribute Points and Skill Points you have poured into Emma and Koo, so you can rebuild for a new weapon, a specific boss weakness, or a playstyle that finally clicked. The catch is that the option is locked at the start. You have to reach a set moment in the story and recruit a single character before the reset menu becomes available.
Quick answer: Save Mikoto during the “Power the Gate” objective near the end of Chapter 2, then return to the Cleanse Walker, use the Communicator on the wall, select Call Mikoto, and choose Reset Attributes to refund your points for Amber.
Unlock the respec by rescuing Mikoto in Chapter 2
The character who handles resets is Mikoto, a young grey-haired man with the ability to manipulate Blight through his voice. You meet him in the Ancient Civilization Zone, the second main area of the game, roughly four hours in. Recruiting him is tied to a required quest step, so you cannot miss it by playing normally.

Once Mikoto is a contact, you handle every respec from your hub. You do not go back to where you met him each time.

You can respec as many times as you like, for both characters, as long as you can pay. There is no cap on the number of resets.
What a reset refunds and what it keeps
Attributes and Skills are tied together, so you cannot reset one without the other. Choosing Reset Attributes refunds your stat points and, because several skills are gated behind stat thresholds, the Skill Points spent on the lower half of the tree come back as well. The upper branches are the exception.
| Reset | Kept |
|---|---|
| All Attribute Points for the selected character | Nushi Skills, the upper “branches” of the tree |
| Skill Points in the “roots” of the tree | Blade Arts (Emma) unlocked through Nushi Skills |
| Emma’s Tracking Shot, Hair, and Entanglement Skills | Bloom Arts (Koo) unlocked through Nushi Skills |
| Koo’s Guard, Pounce, and Incantation Skills | — |
Note: because you cannot reset skills separately, treat the top-tier Nushi picks as permanent. Everything else is fair game to redistribute.
Amber cost and how it scales
Every respec is paid in Amber, the currency you find throughout the world. The price scales with how many Attribute Points you have invested. Each invested point adds 100 Amber to the total, so a reset of 36 invested points costs 3,600 Amber. The number of Skill Points you have does not change the price. They are refunded regardless.
Early resets are cheap, and the cost climbs as your levels rise. Even so, it stays manageable relative to how much Amber you accumulate. By the midpoint of the game it is common to be sitting on well over 100,000 Amber, so resetting to counter a boss weakness or test a new build is rarely a real expense. If you do run short before a tough fight, sell surplus goods at a merchant. Unused Spirit Stones are plentiful and fetch a solid amount.
How to confirm the respec worked
After you confirm, the game deducts the Amber and returns your points on the spot. Open the Attribute and Skill menus and you will see the refunded points available to spend again, with the lower branches of the tree cleared. If the Reset Attributes option is not appearing, you have not yet reached the point in Chapter 2 where you save Mikoto, or you have not returned to the Cleanse Walker to activate the Communicator. Completing both unlocks the feature for good.
