The Mystic Spearhand combines melee combat with magick and is available only to the Arisen. Its duospear lets it attack enemies at any distance, rush into close range instantly, and briefly protect the entire party with an invulnerable barrier. Its damage is moderate and its knockdown is limited, so a strong build depends on sustained pressure, careful stamina use, and controlling crowds instead of raw burst damage.

Quick answer: Run Mirour Shelde for defense, Dragoun’s Foin for mobility, Ravinour’s Hond for stamina, and Wild Furie or Magike Speregonne for damage, then stack stamina and magick augments over defensive ones.
How to unlock Mystic Spearhand
Finish the Monster Culling quest first. After that, rest until you can no longer fast travel to Melve by Ferrystone, then head there to trigger the Readvent of Calamity quest when a dragon attacks the village. Fight the dragon off or kill it, then speak to Sigurd afterward and ask about his way of fighting. You can then switch to the vocation at any Vocation Guild for 200 discipline.
Pushing the vocation from rank 1 to rank 9 costs 27,200 discipline in total. While it is equipped, your stats shift by +50 health, +50 magick, +100 stamina, +50 strength, and -15 defense, which is why the kit is built to avoid taking hits rather than tank them.

Best weapon skills for Mystic Spearhand
You have four weapon-skill slots plus the Maister skill. The loadout below keeps you alive, keeps your stamina topped off, and gives you a heavy hitter for open windows.
| Skill | What it does | Rank | Discipline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mirour Shelde | Barrier that nullifies attacks for you and nearby allies for a few seconds | 6 | — |
| Dragoun’s Foin | Dash-and-stab that travels far, works mid-air, adds magick damage | 4 | 1,000 |
| Ravinour’s Hond | Drains enemy stamina into yours and speeds stamina recovery | 5 | 1,300 |
| Magike Speregonne | Charged magick blast with long range, scales with stamina spent | 8 | 2,500 |
| Wild Furie | Maister: a rapid sequence of slashes and magick; press again to keep it going | Maister | — |
| Skiedragoun’s Feste | Teleport up, then dive back down; doubles as an evade | 6 | 1,600 |
Mirour Shelde is the reason the vocation holds up on higher difficulties. It upgrades from Mirour Vesture (rank 3, 450 discipline) and throws a short invulnerability bubble over you and anyone standing close. It costs little stamina to maintain, so you can keep your squishier pawns protected while you stay aggressive. Its main limits are range, so pawns who wander off lose the shield, and the fact that it blocks only direct damage, not side effects like tremors.
Dragoun’s Foin is your travel and engage tool. It covers ground fast, climbs through the air, and reaches flying or hard-to-hit weak spots without manual climbing. Ravinour’s Hond is what lets the build run forever, siphoning stamina back from enemies so you can keep casting shields and swinging.
For your damage slot, pick based on the fight. Magike Speregonne is a charged blast that chews through large, slow enemies and shreds exposed weak points. Wild Furie, the Maister skill, is better against stationary or downed targets and smaller foes, and both drain stamina quickly, which is exactly why Ravinour’s Hond sits alongside them. You unlock Wild Furie by helping Sigurd defeat the dragon at Dragonsbreath Tower southwest of Bakbattahl; he hands over the Paladin’s Enigmata afterward.
Skiedragoun’s Feste is a flexible swap. It works as both an attack and a reactive dodge, and it plants you directly on top of a large monster. Pair it with the Dark Arisen skill Hindringe Mirke, which drops a gravity field that slows enemies and boosts your dive attacks, for strong area damage against grouped foes. Seching Storm and Devout Offringe are solid alternatives for that slot if you prefer homing projectiles or extra crowd control.

Core skills and how to fight
Most of your real damage comes from regular attacks, so unlock the core moves early and learn their rhythm. Twein Cut is your paced light attack, and Magike Cut is the heavy finisher you use on anything flinched or knocked down. Winding Cut (rank 4) is a spinning multi-hit that costs no stamina and can be used while moving, which makes it ideal for grinding a large boss’s weak point once you are positioned.
Forbeding Bolt is the signature action. Charging it longer holds an enemy in place longer, and landing it opens small targets up to a Magike Cut finisher. Against packs of wolves or ghouls, that loop alone clears them out. Scatering Bolt disperses the bolt to snare nearby enemies, and Quick Fot instantly warps you to anything a bolt has struck, which is how you reach fast or flying targets.
Because the vocation’s knockdown power is low, a popular approach is building around freeze instead. The ice duospear Rhewynt paired with the Asperity augment greatly raises your chance to freeze large enemies, and since Winding Cut never drains stamina you can apply that pressure endlessly.
Best augments
The vocation burns stamina fast, so most of your augment slots go toward stamina and offense rather than defense. Mirour Shelde already covers survival. Pull these from other vocations as you level them.
| Augment | Effect | Source vocation / rank |
|---|---|---|
| Endurance | Increases maximum stamina | Archer 4 |
| Exaltation | Speeds stamina recovery | Mage 9 |
| Verve | Increases strength | Thief 9 |
| Sagacity | Increases magick | Sorcerer 9 |
| Polarity | Boosts strength by day, magick by night | Mystic Spearhand 6 |
| Athleticism | Cuts stamina used while dashing | Mystic Spearhand 9 |
Endurance is the priority so Wild Furie and your charged attacks last longer before you tire out. Polarity is worth grabbing once you hit rank 6 since it keeps either your physical or magick power buffed around the clock. If you have ranks to spare, Zeal, which lowers the stamina cost of weapon skills, fits the build perfectly. Subtlety and other defensive picks are optional; equip a Ring of Disfavor on a pawn to make Subtlety pull aggro off you.
Best duospears by progression
Duospears split damage evenly between strength and magick, with a few exceptions. Upgrade your weapon before your armor unless you are struggling to stay alive.
- Infernal Edge — early-game carry with fire damage, earned from the Tolled to Rest quest at the Ancient Battleground.
- Soul of Antiquity — a strong mid-game buy in Bakbattahl that will see you through the main story.
- Rhewynt — endgame duospear with a permanent 50% ice enchantment, ideal for freeze builds.
- Lindworm Fang — a late-game weapon to buy from the Dragonforged at Bay Wayside Shrine for 110 Wyrmslife Crystals; its blades grow stronger as you land hits without taking damage.
Dark Arisen adds relic duospears worth hunting. The Anointed Edge is a Lv 2 relic obtained by appraising Long Weaponry or Ancient Long Weaponry spoils, with 710 strength and magick (790 on the Ancient variant), 520 knockdown power, and a light 2.1 kg weight.

The Blades of Rye is another Dark Arisen relic, buyable from 6,000 gold in its first form and appraised up to Lv 3 spoils, reaching 860 to 900 strength and magick on the top variants with 530 knockdown power. Its rare appraisal form is the Bloodeagle.

Armor and rings
Mystic Spearhand armor is light to medium, so chase defense numbers and resistances rather than specific set bonuses. Confidant’s Hood covers the head well before endgame, with the Dragon Knight’s Helm available later from the Dragonforged. Elegant Petticoat is a strong body option found at the Agamen Ruins, and Arena Breeches from the Volcanic Island Armoury give good defense and debilitation resistance. On Hard Mode, armor skills like Survival Instinct that slow Loss Gauge buildup are worth prioritizing, since Norgan hits hard.
For rings, pick what your fight needs. Two Rings of Vehemence raise your chance to stagger and knock down large monsters, which helps offset the vocation’s low knockdown. A Ring of Triumph instead adds 100 maximum health and stamina plus 5 carry weight, keeping you light and fighting longer; trade Seeker Tokens at the Vermund Vocation Guild for it. Ring of Aggression (strength) and stamina rings like Ring of Quickening round out an offensive setup.
Party composition
Since Mirour Shelde can make your whole party briefly invulnerable, surround yourself with pawns that deal damage without worrying about defense. A Mage main pawn for healing and shielding pairs well with a Thief and a Sorcerer for melee and elemental damage. Call “To Me!” before a fight so pawns stay inside your shield radius. If you are running the freeze setup with Rhewynt, hire a Thief with Frosted Edges and a Sorcerer with High Hagol to stack cold damage and lock down large enemies faster.
