The Fishman Lord already sits in the Underwater City palace as a normal Lv. 425 boss, but the awakened version is a separate, timed encounter tied to the First Sea Island Secrets added in Update 30. It only appears on the hour, only after a specific item is pulled out of a clam, and only on servers where the rotation has picked Underwater City.
Quick answer: Ask the Secrets Master in Middle Town “Which boss stirs next?” about 10 minutes before the hour ends (5:50, for example). If it names Underwater City, be there at XX:00, wait for the chat message that the water is stirring, then search the glowing clams until you pull the Pearl of the Deep. Claiming it awakens the Fishman Lord.
Awakened Fishman Lord requirements and rewards
You need level 425 to take the King Neptune quest, and you need to be able to reach Underwater City, whose entrance is the whirlpool ringed by three large rocks between the Frozen Village and the Prison. Everything else is timing.
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Boss level | 425 |
| Sea / location | First Sea, Underwater City palace |
| Awakening window | Every hour, at XX:00 (chance-based rotation) |
| Trigger item | Pearl of the Deep, found in a clam |
| Quest giver | King Neptune |
| Quest reward | $15,000 and 4,250,000 EXP |
| Kill drops | $1,200+, 55,000–60,000 EXP, 10,625 bounty |
| Possible drops | Trident, Fish Tail |
| Normal respawn | 8 minutes |
Note: the awakened fight is one of the three Island Secrets attached to Underwater City. The other two are the Coral Cave bubble and the Water Kung-Fu Teacher crystal puzzle beside the Fishman Lord’s castle, and neither is required to trigger the boss.

Add to Google Preferences →Check the boss rotation with the Secrets Master in Middle Town
Awakened bosses rotate across First Sea islands, and only one island gets the spawn each hour. The Secrets Master NPC tells you which one, so checking first saves you a wasted trip underwater.

If the Secrets Master names a different island, the Fishman Lord is not awakening this hour on that server. Either wait for the next check or hop servers and ask again.
Find the Pearl of the Deep to awaken the Fishman Lord
The boss does not simply spawn when the clock hits the hour. A chat message fires first, and then you have to find the trigger item yourself.

Fishman Lord attacks and the second phase
The Fishman Lord was the first boss in the game to get a second form, and it is still the only First Sea boss that transforms. When his health drops low enough, he switches to a white-haired, angrier version, heals back up, and gains damage and movement speed. That heal is a one-time event, so once you burn through the second bar he stays down. Deal enough damage fast enough and he can die before transforming at all.
| Attack | What it does | How to handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Trident Throw | Hurls the roped trident; hitting you deals damage and drags you toward him, hitting terrain pulls him to it | Dash often, or use Instinct — this one cannot break it |
| Water Pulse | Spins the trident to suck in nearby players, then explodes and knocks them back | Keep your distance; it does break Instinct |
| Shark Summon | Summons three sharks that keep respawning for the whole fight | Clear them quickly so they stop chipping you |
Two positioning tricks make the fight far more forgiving. Hit him, run outside the palace, and put a wall between you before using long-range AoE or rapid melee — just keep the pressure constant, because pausing lets him regenerate and eventually teleport back to spawn. The other option is to bait him behind a window, stand on the window ledge outside, and M1 him down. Water Pulse does not hit hard, so tanking it there is fine.
Turn in the quest to King Neptune
After the kill, go back to King Neptune, marked by a yellow “?” above his head, and hand in the quest. The Defeat Fishman Lord quest pays $15,000 and 4,250,000 EXP, which is enough to visibly jump your level on turn-in, and the awakened kill counts toward the Underwater City secret reward. The boss itself can also drop the Trident or a Fish Tail, both at low rates.
You know it worked when the quest marker clears from King Neptune and the EXP and money land in your totals. If the marker is still there, the kill was not credited to your quest.
Why the Fishman Lord does not awaken
Only a handful of things actually stop this from firing, and none of them are subtle.
- The rotation picked a different island that hour, so no clams appear in Underwater City.
- You arrived after XX:00 and another player already claimed the Pearl of the Deep.
- You opened clams but only hit empty ones or mimics; the pearl is in a single specific clam, so keep checking.
- You are killing the ordinary Fishman Lord that respawns every 8 minutes rather than the awakened version, which only exists during the event.
There is also a known quirk worth watching for during the fight. If you push him into second form and then stop attacking long enough, he can reset with full health while keeping the second-form stat boost, minus the visual change. Sustained damage is the fix, which is exactly why the wall and window strategies work so well here.
